Jinjer have lot of influences, definitely quite a lot of alt 90s rock and punk finds its way in there, as well as the more jazzy, proggy stuff - especially in their more recent albums. Probably one reason I like them so much despite not being a huge metal fan myself. Some of their stuff is quite 'challenging' for me at least, and takes a couples of listens, as they're often a bit more structurally complex than most rock - but a lot of their songs have been real growers and I suppose those two things often go hand in hand.
You're right about the reggae thing - Tatiana used to be in a reggae band prior to Jinjer, so she's pretty familiar with the genre which probably helps with the feeling of authenticity here. While she writes the lyrics the other guys write the music, and apparently she'd been pestering them for some time to do something more reggae and this was the result.
Kind of glad you didn't start with Pisces like everyone else seems to, haha. I mean its an OK song but a little dull in comparison to some of their other material. Pit of Consciousness (Live in Kiev) is the one a lot of people are recommending and its a good choice for a live performance. I'll throw 'Teacher, Teacher' into the ring as well - the official video is an edit of their live performances so you get some of that vibe, but it's also quite a cool and varied song so well worth a listen in its studio form.

You hit the jackpot with quality live video performance because Jinjer has many so hoping you continue.Two are from 2019 in their home country Ukraine before they were invaded Pit of Consciousness and On the Top live Kiev.Tatiana is the singer and btw Opeth is one of Eugene’s the bassist favorites,Vlad drums and Roman guitar they are very tight musicians and hard working touring almost none stop as ambassadors for the Ukrainian cause

I have been a Jinjer fan for 5 years. This band is on all my play lists. Jinger is a musical adventure for me. The band uses jazz as a foundation for many of their songs. Jinger is the first band that I have seen to combine reggae with metal. Jinjer is never boring.

"More of the same" isn't really a concern.. they somehow manage to have a very distinctive sound while also displaying huge variety from song to song.
Stylistic influences include (in no particular order) metalcore, hardcore, thrash, grunge, jazz, reggae, funk, rap, classical. In terms of genre, they're definitely metal (because it's a broad category). Wikipedia categorizes them as metalcore, their bassist, Eugene, more aptly calls them progressive groove metal.
The thumbnail that popped up on your screen at the end of the song is from the official music video for "Home Back", a powerful song about how the brutality of war destroys innocence as well as lives. It's a very personal song to them since they are from eastern Ukraine. The song has a wonderful surprise transition near the middle that you'll love. The official video is a must-see, and there's a great live performance from their Hellfest 2021 concert...maybe a double feature is in order?

there are two songs so far that have some reggae in them - the other is Who Is Gonna Be The One live. If you want full-fledged reggae-metal, check out Skindred from the UK - such as Nobody at Bloodstock. Perennial live at Wacken is another great on-stage performance. Teacher Teacher official, Vortex official, or I Speak Astronomy official are some OMVs. Subbed. Cheers!

Who is gonna be the one has a more Amy Winehouse jazz feel to the outdoor, rather than reggae...but that's just my take on it.

I would definitely suggest Vortex OMV, if you like progressive stuff, it will make you want to dive deeper into Jinjers catalog. No songs really sound the same but you'll always recognize it's Jinjer.

Pretty much everything mixed with everything is their thing. Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air is a good one to do next. Pit of Consciousness live in Kyiv. It's actually quite a rabbit hole to go down. All the songs on the playlist below would be great for reactions.

Thanks Kevin, you mentioned tool in one of your videos. For me they are the best modern progressive metal band, but the progressive umbrella covers a lot of sounds.
If you haven't heard the 2019 tool album it is worth a listen. For a good reaction check out '7empist '. (for tool always use official audio with a few exceptions, their videos are 'artsy'.)

I skimmed the comments and wanted to mentioned that Tatipressed the guys to give her some reggae for years. So they relented and created the music for this.

There is this crazy band called "Church of The Cosmic Skull" they are 70s prof revival band from th Europe I recommend the song "Evil in Your Eye" they sound like if Black Sabbath and Fleetwood Mac got together for an album

Yeah it's really hard to put Jinjer in any one genre box, they just don't fit in those narrow definitions. Metal hardcore prog fusion? Hmmm. Then they mix in Reggae or Gypsy Jazz or something from Ukrainian folk, you never know...
I should have added, yeah, you need to check out more Jinjer tunes to really "get" their genre mixing / genre bending style. I would suggest "Pisces" (live in studio), "Perennial" (live at Wakken) and "I Speak Astronomy" as my current favorites. But they're all good. And all different.

I like this one, as I do with most of their songs, but I prefer Jinjer's first two albums. I saw them four times live and in June I will see them again in the Netherlands. I'm pretty excited for it.

Well, you kinda jumped into a deep part of the Jinjer world. You're getting a multitude of their influences in this song. This Ukrainian band is one of the best all-around talented bands I've seen in quite a few years. The deeper into this rabbit hole you go, the more appreciation and enjoyment you will get. Hopefully, you decide to explore the catalog. Great reaction!

If you want to see more progressive metal bands, I suggest Nevermore - This Godless Endeavor. As far as Jinjer goes, their sound changes up quite a bit. You can dig pretty deep into their music and get something a little different each time.

Welcome to the fold. The One Take Vocal Performance of this song is better though. The band has a lot of good music, you might want to try Teacher Teacher! or Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) next.

I'm awfully late to the party and discussion. Regardinmg the lyrics: It's criticism of russian attitude and worldview.
Great band! You may be excused with the genre confusion. "Metal" is such a wide genre. "Hardcore" is originally punk that's inspired some subgenres of metal (like metalcore that you might have been thinking of here) I'd just call Jinjer progressive metal 😅
