  • S05E12: You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)
In 1988 when asked for his favorite Beatles song, Paul McCartney offered up You Know My Name (Look Up The Number). Released in 1970 it was the last new Beatles b-side and it showed that right up to the end they could still surprise and delight.
Live on tape from Dublin & Belfast, it’s Nothing Is Real.

I first heard this song as a ‘tween’ in the early 90s listening to my mom’s Beatles albums and 45s. I revisited it two days ago after listening to your Allen Klein podcast and had a flashback to sitting on the floor in my parents’ house in rural Texas on a hot summer afternoon wondering: “What is this, and why would they put it on the Let It Be single?” Fun memory. Thanks for taking me back there.

I'm glad you're getting everything on UA-cam. It's more convenient than searching through podcast websites. Best of luck and keep up the good work.

What I enjoy most about this song is how much fun John and Paul seem to be having. Also one of the few Lennon, Plastic Ono band, vibe songs to pass the Beatles radar.

It's not in the top 100 Beatles songs, but it's a nice novelty. The Beatles as Dr. Demento.

So it wasn't because Paul hade so many more shares than John in Northern songs? I think so. He had to choose between two bad things. He maby chosed the wrong one just because he wanted to protect his own person. Money will come again, but relations can go away for ever. It's human behaviour.
