Brake Van ride on NYMR (+ team chat!)

Have you ever wondered what it was like to be a guard on a goods train, back in the days of steam?WELL. When I (Tim Dunn) plus Tom Bright and Chris Gilson of Steam Railway magazine were asked if we'd like to ride at the back of a demo goods train IN THE BRAKE VAN... we said yes, obviously. But we realised that this was a privilege that we don't all get. So I whipped out my recording equipment - and despite only having one working camera I've been able to produce a short video that we are pretty proud of. So - well done everybody who has been a part of it, thanks a million to the NYMR team, and we hope you enjoy what was never really planned at all! Loco BR Standard 4 Tank No. 80136. The event was the annual steam gala, september 2022.
Loco info from NYMR:
80136 was built in Brighton in 1956, first assigned to Plaistow to work the Tilbury line. In 1962 it left for Shrewsbury, until her withdrawal in 1965, less than ten years after being built. The locomotive sat in Woodham Brothers' scrapyard on Barry Island until 1979. Rescued by Philip Oldfield, it became a labour of love, painstakingly and slowly restored with parts -- often built from scratch -- and was based at the Churnet Valley Railway. It was first re-steamed in 1998 and worked at the Churnet Valley Railway, then the Llangollen Railway until its boiler ticket expired in 2008.
In 2016 an agreement was reached with its owners to find a new life at the NYMR to join sister loco 80135. With most of the required work having been completed, it arrived in April as a separate boiler and frames, and the Motive Power Depot team at Grosmont reassembled it on site. It returned to regular service in August 2016.
