I do believe that playing *Pope Benedict* has been life changing for Sir Hopkins.
There's something about human nature, you can't get inside of something without being affected by it. There was this other movie 'The Young Pope' some time ago. Wonder if it affected the lead character who played an imaginary weird pope, in any way positive.

The interviewer had no idea what Anthony was trying to say, maybe comprehend some but he was clearly confused at some points. This actor is a very wise man, what he says is true and I came to those conclusions myself, not all of them but some, I do realize I know nothing, what I know is irrelevant and I also know Ego is humanity biggest enemy, ego pride desire for power, all in the same class destroying us. It's so refreshing to hear an old and very smart actor claim with such sincerity that he knows nothing, the he is not special, he has no idea what he is, just tiny fractions, and this applies to every human alive with a functioning brain.
We know nothing, we just assume and try to fit pieces of a gigantic puzzle, but we have a couple pieces only, and science, religion in some cases just create pieces to make sense of the universe and of us, but in truth they don't know they don't have a clue just like us. But they are certain, like he said, they are certain and it blinds them and people follow their belief without question sometimes. People would see the world and treat it in such a different way if instead of thinking that we are special, we could say that the world we live in is special and we should just be happy that we are alive to witness it, observe it, live in it, we don't have to dissect and analyze everything and especially assume we know everything. Look at us and look at what Nikola Tesla accomplished 100 years ago and more, we now, today don't understand electricity and vibrations like he did, and he in his turn knew very little of the bigger picture, yet we are all certain that we are the smartest and advanced generation. Being wise doesn't mean knowing 100 books or mastering 10 skills, being a wise person is being just like Anthony Hopkins.

In spiritual teachings we are mainly taught to make an ego a friend. Making it an enemy is exactly what creates chaos in this world. There's a saying that the most egoic people hate ego of others, usually that's how conflicts begin, two egos in war with each other. The task of humanity is to start making it our closest friend to make it dissolve on its own. We don't beat the enemy by making it more of an enemy, we make love to it. It is the reason why I find Mr.Hopkins very much at a point of recognizing his own ego, but still under its control himself. He is wise though. His statement about doubt also reflects his egoic fear and trauma, one can only focus on trust and belief like an innocent child, not doubt.

Wow, how profound his words were. I love this. Faith has nothing to do with certainly. It is a complete surrendering to the God within. Spot on Sir Anthony.

Wow, if you want to see Mr. Hopkins jump up straight in his seat and joyfully engage during an interview just make sure you pick an intelligent topic. This was a pleasure to witness, getting into the metaphysical and abstract. Kudos to the interviewer.

Mr. Hopkins seems to be a very decent man. I liked his Methusala part a lot. I am relieved he is not batshit crazy like hollyhood is.

This quality I could also see in Brando, during his interviews. Not a coincidence I think, but a trait of what makes a great actor.

Love it, and I agree very much. "Knowing we know nothing is the basis for humility". Quite true that if we leave humility, we often go into arrogance...delusion. I have heard that three things stop change and growth: When we become 1. too certain, 2. too serious, or 3. too important. Humility is just honesty, and levity goes right along w it.

Bravo!! Anthony has the true mantra...we don't need to "shine" always..because it is literally not about US! He has accepted his gifts and he moves on. What a mentor. Plus..he has that twinkle in his eyes that makes you wonder ..if he is not "magic". (i.e. one of my favorite movies of his). Nice interview..you allowed Anthony to "reveal"....nicely done.....thanks.

"The greatest way to live is living constantly in doubt." Anthony Hopkins inspires me all the time. He just knows how to live a life. I don't think those values of him came out from nowhere. I'm sure he's gone through countless contemplations throughout his life. I thank him for sharing his values with us.

You make me feel brand new. Everything I feel has been verbalized by you. The religious people are the worst spreading their belittling condemnation thinking "THEY" are better than others. Mr. Hopkins i wish you could have given me this wisdom 70 years ago. I part with a smile. LD
