I ordered my '24 Cayenne S with the dashcam pre-wiring option. I assumed, and as you stated, that there would be cost-savings for the installation. Upon delivery, I inquired about the dashcam installation. Dealership quoted me $1,200! I declined. Hopefully some brave soul will post installation tutorial so I can do it myself.
Hey, Paul... great video; BUT, does your Porsche Tequipment Dash Camera work as it should? I've had two installed by my Porsche dealer and they don't datestamp/timestamp the video segments properly. Porsche won't fix this. What's your experience?
I just bought a brand new turbo S and had this installed. I have no parking mode option?!? Of course, the dealer is clueless. I can’t imagine a 2024 911 isn’t capable of parking mode…but it doesn’t even show up as an option in the menu. What version are you running? I updated the firmware and phone version 1.3, dashcam version 1.45….? Cameras are at version 6.2…
HI. Great video. thank you. One thing I have not been able to do is use the SD Card in my PC (a Mac Power Pro). With the SD card in the Mac, I can only see Front facing videos, not the Rear facing. Is this a known issue or something wrong with my DashCam or Mac set up?
On my 2025 911 GTS 992.2, I ordered pre-wiring for $140. I used a Garmin on my previous Porsche wired to the OBD. I am hoping that I can get power from the pre-wiring location so I do not have to fish wires, which actually wasn’t that bad. I have a feeling that the $500 Porsche Dashcam is crap, and was not upgraded for 2025. Any thoughts?
I find I have wifi connection issues unless I turn off the PCM. If you have the PCM on, your phone will disconnect from the camera and reconnect to PCM CarPlay.
For less price, FitCamX makes a dashcam that actually integrates better on the car. It's stealthy and doesn't look like just another aftermarket camera like this one. Also no need for that extra Porsche pre-wire stuff.
@@malinois71 The Y harness that comes with FitCamX connects to the existing harness that's currently used for dome lights / rain sensor /etc. Porsche's extra "pre-wire" will probably just take up space and not be used.
@@BobbyDazzler888 Complete opposite of reality. Aftermarket companies have been developing dashcams far longer than Porsche. Porsche cams have more issues.
I used a Garmin dashcam on my previous Porsche and got “juice” from the OBD power connection. I ordered pre-wiring ($140) for my new 2025 911 GTS t-hybrid to get power for the Garmin without any pre-wiring. They say a rear dashcam cannot be installed on a cabriolet. Any thoughts?
I disagree on what it is said in sec 30. If you dont have the pre wiring option, you can DIY it. It is fairly simple provided you feed comfortable working on you car. The wiring kit only costs USD 100.
Good video, but honestly this dashcam is a complete piece of s**t. Just like the Spotify 'integration' that NEVER f**king works unless I put PCM into Engineering Mode and then reboot every single time I drive, shows exactly how far behind Porsche is in regards to technology that actually WORKS. Neither of my 2022's nor my 2021 had the option to 'pre-wire' when I ordered so I paid $2k to have them installed in addition the wasted time of sitting at the dealer for an entire day plus the $1.5k the three cameras cost themselves. If they worked as advertised they'd have paid for themselves already, but they don't. As you pointed out setup is a pain. Then if something happens and you want to view clips you essentially have to carry a separate device because if your device is connected to the car via CarPlay, CarPlay will commandeer the device and you'll only be able to access the dashcam if you forget your phone then repair it once you're done. I tried to explain this to my mother-in-law who was issued a ticket for something wasn't her fault but because she couldn't get the clip to prove otherwise the cop chose her. I've since just put in Ring CarCams and they look just as clean and actually work for a fraction of the price. I was able to install the entire camera and set-up in WAY less time than it took to initially get that Porsche crap to connect to the app. And I could have paid for the LTE service for about 15 years for what I spent on the Porsche POS. Everyone considering this thing do yourself a favor and forget it.
Yup, Porsche apps are wonky at best. Plus I'm amazed it requires the use of a smart phone. I figured the app would be available from the car interface.
@@paulsteinbruner2129 I got mine figured out, when the track app is working, the overlay and front/rear camera views are pretty sweet….however the track app is pretty glitchy.
Why the dates of recording on app showed 2030 10 23. It showed correct dates of 2023 04 23 then it jumped to year of 2030. Mine has the same issues. Any idea how to fix it?
WOW ! I've had the same thing happening on TWO dashcams and Porsche is completely clueless about it. -I'm a systems engineering guru and I can see that this is a firmware problem which I have explained (in writing) to Porsche several times. They won't fix it and have offered to just give me my money back.
Honestly.. for a porsche this is a big joke... got a chinese one that i can watch with a 4g card in it . (Front&back) it saved me 9000 euro damages when someone hit my porsche.

thank you so much for the in-depth tutorial! There aren't many technology videos on Porsche

hi, do I have to get the Porsche dash cam for connecting this prewiring thing?
Please I want to know if this dash cam works well with the new Porsche pcm plus Cayenne e1 management system?
I’ve reset the camera and app multiple times - still haven’t been able to get iPhone 14 connect with Porsche dashcam
Great video! Do you know if I can access the camera remotely ? Or do I have to be in the car in wifi range?
You need to be in WIFI range.

Hi can we use the app without WiFi and in Bluetooth mode only. I like to use car Wi-Fi hotspot at same time.

Not sure if the prewiring will work for an aftermarket dash cam.
Are there any issues with wireless Carplay working and automatically connecting when the Dashcam app is connected to the Dashcam camera?
Yes, it is best not to use wireless Apple Car Play while also trying to use the dashcam app.
I find I have wifi connection issues unless I turn off the PCM. If you have the PCM on, your phone will disconnect from the camera and reconnect to PCM CarPlay.
Can you connect multiple phones/devices to the dashcam?
I believe it is just one at a time.

Correct this option became available a couple years ago.
Can you use it for recording track days? With track overlays?
I suppose you could but you are better off using your smartphone and the Porsche Track Precision App.
