American married to German Women 36 years going on 37 years. We live in Berlin, Germany. My wife cooks very good Apple pie and Brownies. My wife has never spoke to me in English only in German. My wife does speak to my side of family in English though. Dana great job with your videos! I hope to see you both on video! Your both great together!
Honestly my boyfriend and I have been together for 7 years and he’s changed me in so many ways. I’m kinder, I think more critically, I’m more adventurous, and I’m so glad I’m with him.
Your boyfriend is so adorable :) He reminds me so much of myself. I am a more introverted person too, who is having a hard time while going out of the comfort zone. I am really happy to see that you guys are upgrading each other's life on a daily basis. It kinda gives me hope to meet an open-minded, extroverted person like you, Dana :P You two seem to be a really good team
Haha! Well, it was not my intention or meant this way but hey, I love myself :P Don´t you love yourself, too? It would be really sad otherwise :P I was just talking about Stefan´s relaxed balanced attitude^^
I married an American and he's not changing me, America changed me already a lot. Now he tries to learn from me how to be better organized and say everything straight forward instead of holding it in or ignoring something etc. 😁
My husband and I met in the US and we've together for almost 4 years this upcoming spring. My husband is also German and he has changed the in a few of the same ways Stefan has. I feel like my husband has started wearing a lot more colorful shirts (like plaid prints) after he met me because I love colorful clothing. He also has become a lot more outgoing since meeting me. Although he still hates the spotlight and any attention being on him. I also introduced him to new foods and such over the course of our relationship. And definitely the tipping thing is true for him as well. When we met I was a waitress and he already tipped really well because he didn't want to be 'that' person. But now we live in Germany he's kept a lot of the same tipping habits. Oh Jan shushes me constantly. On the train. At a shop. At our own dinner table in our flat.
The shush thing drives me crazy! My husband is a quiet Asian guy and he does that to me too! But I just laugh and tell him too bad! We joke about it a lot.
Now, after watching this video, I´d love to see some photos of Dana and Stefan, when they first met, almost 9 years ago, please :-) ! If Dana had already shown some, I´ve missed this/these video/s (Sorry) ! Lots of Love to this cute couple ! And Thanks a lot for sharing all those interesting videos here !
My husband and I are British, when we first met he was in Birmingham and I was in Sheffield, Yorkshire. We both had pretty strong accents. The question of “who’s going to move to be with the other came up, my husband loves his home City. I do love Yorkshire, but I was not totally closed to leaving. So we both began applying for jobs that would allow us to be more grown up and get a mortgage. We decided to apply in both areas, whoever got a job that meant moving, would make the move. My husband got a job here and so he moved. After many years my husband’s accent is not as strong. But he’s also picked up some Yorkshire-isms. I’ve also found my Brummie (Birmingham) accent has grown. Now we have people confused as to who’s from where. Because we interchange accents depending on whether we are home or visiting family and friends in Birmingham. He also eats FAR more veggies and salads. We moved in together and he had a long list of “nope, I don’t eat that!” I gradually worked out that this list was built up from foods his Mum cooked really badly (vegetables should apparently be boiled and boiled until you can no longer tell carrots from cauliflower) or foods she told him he didn’t like. I knew already that I loved a pizza monster, but his mum was totally adamant that he didn’t eat pizza. So I ignored the list and started feeding him properly cooked veggies and stuff he didn’t like... I told him “oh sorry, I forgot” and convinced him to maybe try again as his tastebuds will have matured. Sneaky but it worked! We just celebrated our 28th Anniversary in August, so I must be doing something right 🤪
You two are adorable; I like it when y'all do a video together. Stefan, you're cute as a button, whether you like it or not. Dana is already widely acknowledged as cute, so there's no need to point that out.
stefan that was a great show. i think you are doing great. you guys make a great couple too. finding a person to spend life with and altering yourself for them is one of the joys of companionship. we learn and grow from each other. Excellent.
Very nice video. So much in public about relationships is dramatic and negative. It's nice to see a video about a healthy relationship. Good partners do help each other grow. Thanks for sharing.
My English has changed in the 2 years I've lived in Vietnam. My high-school friend recently visited me and pointed out the strange Vietnamese noises I now make. Most of the expats in my city are South African and English, so I now use more slang and terms from those countries. I say "at the weekend" instead of "on the weekend" and i'm often "keen on" doing things. I always take my shoes off before entering the house and I put fish sauce on my chips (not fries).
+Michael Brennan: I'm not optimistic. The long baggy shorts came from ghetto culture, and I don't see the postmodernist-driven lords of fashion, entertainment, sports, and media ever rejecting that. Trends, fashion, and music used to shift radically every 10 years or so. Now, it's been a neverending period of ghetto culture propaganda since the mid 90s.
I totally agree with most of the points you mentioned. I married an American guy and we are living in Germany, and so many things you said are true, especially the foods and the improvement of the English language! Thanks to that I am even able to work at a bilingual Kindergarten/preschool as a "near native" (how we call it) educator. :) Your videos are really so much fun and I enjoy watching every single one. Enjoy your trip to the US! We are hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for friends next weekend, which is another thing I wouldn't have ever though of doing before.
Omg, I remember the 50k subscribers video where we see Stefan for the first time wearing a bag over his head and I was so intrigued!! I just now noticed how much this channel has grown. I subbed back when it had about 20k subscribers and wondered why the hell you didn't have more views. 😁
PotterheadGeeK7 I constantly see your comments on videos I like :) . So much so that I just wanted to tell you that you have an awesome taste. Have a great day!
Great one, Dana. It’s funny how we all change each other in subtle ways over time. I visited an old friend recently; we were roommates some twenty odd years ago. She washes a few dishes, sets them in the drainer, then drapes a towel over them. Her old lady turns to me and says, “She got that from you, y’know.” I was about to defend myself, when my friend chimed in, “I’m not absentminded! I picked up the habit on purpose because it makes the kitchen look tidier while the dishes dry!” I just shut my mouth and kept my mini-gloat to myself. It _does_ make the kitchen look tidier! Anyway, I think it’s awesome that Stephan has graduated from paper bag head to starry-eyed sidekick. (The lighting in this video really did give him anime eyes, IMO.) Keep him full of peanut butter and hot sauce. And just say NO to innards. Tschüss! -Phill, Las Vegas
I think it's very clear to me that the mister german men has changed the way he normally behave with this relationship ! he seems to me like a very shy men and more reserved at get in social environments , You've did it Dana , and now you have an out going husband hahaha :)
So cute you two together 😊🤗 I do remember the first videos where Mr. German Man participated, you could see he wasn't in his comfort zone. Now this has changed, he is way more relaxed, smiles more, got used to it? I think the point of change was when you tried the different sweets. He started to warm up in those videos. For viewers like us Stefan has become more likeable. Definitely looking forward to see more content with him. 👍 PS: just a question: in the intro to the sentence "he changed" he said: "Have I?" Isn't this a typical german mistake (literally fro german "Hab ich?")? Shouldn't he say "Did I?"?
Andy Koenigsdorf if Dana says "he has changed" (which she did) the response is "have I (changed)?" Whereas if she said "he changed" it would be "did I (change)?"
As for your question above. I have autism and I was picked on because I was so odd growing up as a result I put on a hard shell, well in high school I made my first real close friend and I feel he brought me out of my shell.
In Germany they are more "normal" with some autistic behaviors because some of this behaviors are not seen as rude bbut as normal in german culture (bluntness direckness and no smaltak are exampels) Wtih in some pint make it easyer to autistics or aspies. But still to many peopel have no Idea what autism is. many Aspies in germany are not open aspies because of Predujuce. but many are secretly aspies over years and live ok. Many dont outing as a autistic but some du. Like Dr Peter Schmidt. He is a verry famous Aspie advocat. And Witite many books and take many aktion. Cool Guy. look at the books him or look at his webside. Cool guy. Also Marlies Hübner is a good Autistic advocate. really nice to read.
I love how you clearly enrich each other's personality and learn from each other! I hope my international relationship will have a similar effect too :)
Cute video :) I love the chemistry between you. This is my second favorite video, directly after the one where you drag Stefan to this tiny Christmas market to buy the mug for him.
I am engaged (been together for 17yrs) to a German (I am German as well but raised in America) and he has changed me more than I have changed him,he has made me more relaxed and laid back. I have changed how I dressed because I am from America and I always wore a uniform to work so I didn't have many street clothes so since coming to Germany I have bought like clothes that are everyday that I wouldn't normally wear. The changes I have brought to him is cooking and foods.
Enjoyed this video! To answer your question I've changed a lot since I married and moved to Korea. My husband is korean and is very quick in almost everything he does and often do things without much planning. I am kind of the opposite. I feel like in Sweden (my home country) there is usually a lot of planning and thinking and preparing before doing things. And that's how I usually am too. I'm a planner. 😂 But I kind of adapted to just doing instead of planning and I like it. Plans can change more often and quickly here and that gave me a lot of stress first. ^^ Oh! I also started eating way faster 😅
Actually it’s your videos that have changed the way I see my own relationship. You two are so much like my wife and I, roles reversed. I am very outgoing, but the wife doesn’t like going out in public. I have used a lot of things from your videos to get my wife out of her comfort zone and she has become more comfortable now... because of your vids. So thank you for having these and I really hope you keep up the channel!
Its so weird but I can clearly recognize an american or a german person just by appereance (their face). Mr germanman looks so german for some reason. I also always recognize belgium people and ofcourse russian or ukrainian people, but thats easy.
Yeah, it's odd how one can do that with some nationalities. There are people who look so Dutch, I could tell from a hundred meters away they're from the Netherlands. Americans as well, especially the older generation.
Well, around 1870 from my family 4 siblings immigrate to the US and became natural citizens in the Chicago and Louisville area. They married german wifes and the next generation did the same ... and that had not changed of both World Wars except they did no longer speak german and fought in the wars against the children of their uncles. How will you be able to differentiate such an american who is originally a german, cause his parents and grandparents and ... all were germans. I can remember the time how the SS meant to be able to identify jews simply by colour, skin, bones, eyes ... what ever ... but they fooled themselfs .
My friend has made me more daring with spicy food which I'm starting to love!! Also he has made me more of a curious person and helps me to go through difficult times well. I'm glad he's in my life, may God bless him. I love him. I wonder in which ways I've influenced him. I can't wait to speak to him again. I'll be looking forward to it.
Hi Dana!! 😊 I'm Whitney, an American, and also married a German man! Lol We live in Augsburg, Bavaria, and I have to totally agree with everything you mentioned in this video. We have been married nearly 2 years, and I've noticed so many ways I have changed him, not on purpose. Lol. It's so interesting to see these changes and maybe as the years go on, more changes will come to both of us. But I have to say, I'm a stubborn American, and I don't believe I've changed too much toward German culture 😂🙈 just my language has changed! 😉
LOL This video is great! Very amusing, to watch Stefans facial expressions when you told him he now goes shopping in sweat pants. (Doing that is not considered appropriate by a lot of Germans. Similar to those in the US, who make fun of "people at Walmart" :-) And to watch your face, when he tells you, his clothing hasn't changed at all. I love it! About the shorts: Over there in PE, I wore my shorts I brought from Germany. They where like track pants. The PE teacher bought me longer ones, cause she couldn't stand the look. But, how come, you speak English 24/7? Wouldn't it also improve your German, if you would do English and German speaking days in turn?
New subscriber! Hello from Pennsylvania! I found your channel looking up Pennsylvania Dutch. lol And I've been sitting here watching your videos for about 2 hours. I really love the videos with the 2 of you together. Beautiful couple. I can understand cultural differences for sure! My husband - although American - has Mennonite roots, German and Swiss ancestry. It's funny because some of the bluntness you talk about is definitely him also. There isn't much 'sweet-talking' us Americans do usually. It's say what you mean or say nothing. I wonder if this is something that passed down from German culture. Even though his family is many generations American I can still see some similarities.
Stefan is a very cool individual and being with a beautiful American has allowed him to explore the North American ideas of life she's made you more international ha ha ! Luv,joy, and happiness to you both!
My boyfriend changed me a lot in the spontaneously-going-places department, but we're both German. Being in the student council at Uni has helped me overcome some of my shyness and nervousness of speaking in front of a lot of people. I never really liked being the centre of attention (still don't), but I'm way more social and outgoing than I used to be.
Awesome video! I've been with my wonderful German girlfriend for about 2 years now, and I think a looot of these things go for her too :) Just FYI, American guys' shorts are getting shorter to match European styles, generally.. Not sure about the situation down in Florida though, lol. But yea, I wouldn't wear a short that covers my knees...
My husband is a social butterfly, and I'm definitely a lot more introverted. When I'm around him, I become a lot more extroverted. Oh, and he has convinced me to try foods (sushi, bacon, crab, shrimp) that I would never have eaten on my own, but I love them.
Its crazy to me that you have been together for 9 years because when you guys got together i was 7 years old. I love this channel so much and i love you guys both so its odd to me to watch this and know you've been together since i was in 2nd grade.
Wow, what a cute couple. Kinda like opposites build each other up. Cute Mary Ann hair. Funny, people say Germans are too serious. I beg to differ. They have a great sense of humor, it's just not obvious, which makes it funnier. The Germans I know love to joke but in a very subtle way. I love their sense of humor.
I think the it is not only the attitude of Stefan on wearing sweatpants what had changed, but also the acceptance under the people. because in the last two years I saw a lot of people (often in twenties) going out in sweatpants.
I think there should be more videos with Stefan in it. He´s sort of the perfect counterpole to Danas demeanour. His calm, almost stoic way vs. Danas bubbly almost ADS-like (no insult meant) beheaviour.
I'm a russian living in Germany and have a german boyfriend. He changed me in the opposite way Dana changed Stefan. When we plan to visit a restaurant or go to the cinema he ALWAYS makes a reservation in advance. I adapted this habit, too.
Yuuup my bf is Russian and ever since we started living together, he changed things about me. Sweat-Pants is a point for him, I didn't wear those before, not even at home - and now going out for shopping in them as well. But he's also very open for everyone and trying to understand the ways of stranger people, I was just judging them in the past - now I start thinking his way and questioning the behavior first before judging. Could say he makes me a better person?!... =)))
well, I guess in your case as a couple the saying "Opposites attract" proves true... I love how Dana is more expressive, extroverted, excited, bright, whereas Stephan is more grounded, introverted, calm. Seems like a good combination that thrives on each other. I guess the fact that when you meet the "unknown" (whether that be another language, a person of different political, religious or ethnic background), it changes you in some subconscious way as well. Even if it is only a tiiiiny bit and not observable or noticable at first. I think you can tell people who travel a lot or who are at least curious and informed about other things outside their own frame (again, whether that is language, just cultural tradition, maybe the coutnryside in foreign countries, the local cuisine or what have you) apart from those who do not travel or are curious about others: One mind is expanded, whereas the other is not. Whether that is good or bad, I leave open to everyone (I personally think both stances can be beneficial or problematic, depending on context, i.e. traditionalism vs. egalitarian). Coming back from my derailed stream of consciousness, I just wanted to say that I love the videos, only by discussing similarites and differences we learn more about each other and that is a road to respect. While we don't necessarily agree on everything, we at least then know the abouts of particular customs .
Oh my German wife has definitely changed me. I've adopted a lot of her sayings and adopted many of her viewpoints which made more sense to me than my own. In terms of being outgoing, I'm like Stefan and she is like you. One thing she's been unable to change in me is that I am much more casual in dress than she is.
O wonderful Dana im greatful too jou, and love jour Videos so much. As well a great Kompliment for jour really nice man. He is just like me an Bavarian. And when a german speaks english, I find it easier too understand anyway. By the way, jour pronunsication is also really exemplary. All this helps a lot too improof my poor english. Thanks jou for everything and best wishes for jour further journey.
You two are so cute together, everybody can see and feel that you are still in deep love after 9 years, that's really adorable! 😍
Lethargic Mom awww
@Lethargic Mom: I was thinking something along those lines. They seem meant for each other.
Lethargic Mom Das stimmt.Und auch Man finde ich das total schoen ;-)
Lethargic Mom That's true.
You two are ADORABLE! I have (unintentionally) changed my husband. He, too, is from a foreign land - New Jersey.
😂
How did Stefan change you Dana? That is the more interesting question.
easy question:
Unmarried => Married
:/ => :)
??? => !!!
by far more interesting
Didn't she answer that already in several videos?
yeah but it would be interesting to have the direct comparison
maybe tagging a link
betaich sie talks less with her hands 😁
You actually got Mr German to wear the wedding ring on his left hand, which is very American, rather than on his right hand, which is very German.
But Dana herself is wearing the ring on her right hand. I wonder if they do it on purpose?
I'd wear it on the hand where it's the least annoying while working.
she is definitely wearing her engagement and wedding ring on her left hand.
me and my husband wear it on the left even though we're germans it's just more comfortable
Maybe he's just left-handed, lol.
i am glad stefan changed his mind and is in the videos. my favorite videos are the ones you are both in.
And I am glad that he is now Stefan, and not MrGermanMan anymore.
However that is still cute ;-)
"Change my wardrobe because of you? Who do you think you are, my wife or something?"
Honestly my boyfriend and I have been together for 7 years and he’s changed me in so many ways. I’m kinder, I think more critically, I’m more adventurous, and I’m so glad I’m with him.
Mr. German Man's English isn't just very good, it's perfect. Perfect English along with a German accent usually makes for an unbeatable combination.
I bet Stefan has a great sense of humor when he ever gets out of his shell enough to let it show in the videos :)
How did you manage to find the most german German out there? I thought we stopped making those guys. xD
Chaqq Uila my thoughts exactly
Maybe its bavaria? :D
lol. ja jetzt machen wir nur noch assis xD
rockabillymuffin but he's from Cologne (Köln), Northernrhine-Westfalia not Bavaria
this Mr. German looks very textbook German tough! this is really easy! There is so much more in between though.
Your boyfriend is so adorable :) He reminds me so much of myself. I am a more introverted person too, who is having a hard time while going out of the comfort zone. I am really happy to see that you guys are upgrading each other's life on a daily basis. He's her husband, they've been married nine years (:
Haha, I love it how you say "he's adorable" and then "he reminds me of myself" 😂😂
Haha! Well, it was not my intention or meant this way but hey, I love myself :P Don´t you love yourself, too? It would be really sad otherwise :P I was just talking about Stefan´s relaxed balanced attitude^^
Hotfire871 Yeah I know, it just sounded funny to me 😂😂
Sarcastic Sugar | they’ve been together for 9 years, not married for 9 years.
You can tell he really loves her :)
I married an American and he's not changing me, America changed me already a lot. Now he tries to learn from me how to be better organized and say everything straight forward instead of holding it in or ignoring something etc. 😁

We finally found him, the most german German of them all

American shorts should be called longs
I wear short SHORTS even in America, I do not care what other people think of me...I DECIDE WHAT TO DO...I'm a German:-D
I have mine taken up by a seamstress.
Me and my friends just call them "Hanneshosen", because we have a friend named Hannes that always wears american pants- long and short.
It’s a cycle. Years ago they were shorter here, now they’re longer. It will change again.
+Michael Brennan: I'm not optimistic. The long baggy shorts came from ghetto culture, and I don't see the postmodernist-driven lords of fashion, entertainment, sports, and media ever rejecting that. Loooooooooooooove this! Love his accent. Just left germany and miss it already.

Ich Bin f
your chemistry is so nice!
Es ist immer wieder schön euch beide in den Videos zu sehen. Ihr seid ein sehr süßes Paar.
4:38 so do you never speak German at home? (Hope that doesn't sound accusatory or sth, just curious)
You guys are the most adorable couple. It’s so endearing to see both of you trying new things and having an open mind.
wir freuen uns, dass du auch bei einigen videos dabei bist, stefan! :) ihr macht das beide toll!
Great one, Dana. It’s funny how we all change each other in subtle ways over time. I visited an old friend recently; we were roommates some twenty odd years ago. My husband made me to be more calm and not so hot tempered any longer. I love it.
Does anyone else watch these videos and kinda see what he sees in her? Her warmth and sweetness comes through, even on video.
What a sweet couple! We're rooting for you.
So cute you two together 😊🤗
I do remember the first videos where Mr. German Man participated, you could see he wasn't in his comfort zone. Now this has changed, he is way more relaxed, smiles more, got used to it?

Ah, yes.got it, thx. 😊
Awww... such a fun video!!! Love when you vlog with the hubby! I like that you clarified it wasn’t on purpose.
now Dana, please do a reverse. how has Stefan changed you ??have you become somewhat germanized? thanks for always lovely videos!!
Stefan is such a dreamboat :) How did you two end up meeting? And I realize you might have this in a video somewhere, just can't find it. :)
They met in Prague at a bar when Dana lived there. I remember it in one of her videos a while back.
You two are such a cute couple❤
Can't wait until these two have kids
Then Dana will start to calm down!
Love the video. Thank you for posting. Auf wiedersehen.
I like to watch both of you interact together, it's very cute.
Haha that was so cute! Loved it!
I love how you clearly enrich each other's personality and learn from each other! I hope my international relationship will have a similar effect too :)
Ich mag Stefan voll gerne. Er war mir von anfang an sehr sympatisch und es freut mich dass er bei deinen Videos mitmacht :)
Cute video :) I love the chemistry between you. This is my second favorite video, directly after the one where you drag Stefan to this tiny Christmas market to buy the mug for him.
You are such a great couple!
you 2 look like an awesome couple! glad he does join in the videos from time to time! great video, thanks for posting!
Oh!
Your channel is amazing! Thank you for helping me with my german and learn new things 😊
Its so weird but I can clearly recognize an american or a german person just by appereance (their face). Mr germanman looks so german for some reason. I also always recognize belgium people and ofcourse russian or ukrainian people, but thats easy.
Wimsem - Tekenen & Knutselen Thats racist tho xD
Solely observing people's appearance without judging is not racist.
It's our resting faces! I can totally tell it too.
Nice couple. Best video so far👍👍
You're both becoming more and more germarican :-)
More curious: how did Dana meet Mr. German Man, develop relationship due to cultural differences, marriage in Germany how was it different?
Haha the thumbnail is so funny. Says so much about you individually and your relationship. :)
Haha, so süß ihr zwei. Wünsche euch alles Gute und Viel Glück für die Zukunft ❤️
Die Einzige Deutsche hier😂😊
I've been with my wonderful German girlfriend for about 2 years now, and I think a looot of these things go for her too :)
Just FYI, American guys' shorts are getting shorter to match European styles, generally..
You tow are so cool! Thank you for your entertaining videos, they make me laugh everytime :D!
Its crazy to me that you have been together for 9 years because when you guys got together i was 7 years old. I love this channel so much and i love you guys both so its odd to me to watch this and know you've been together since i was in 2nd grade.
I don't like commenting on videos but you two are too cute not to comment. I loved how Mr germanman has changed! You guys are great together.
Stefan must definitely have had a very good english teacher. Super level!
Love these videos! You both are definitely very interesting and awesome people! I enjoy watching ALWAYS! ;D With a big smile on my face! :D
"Wer eine Jogginghose trägt, hat die Kontrolle über sein Leben verloren." -Karl Lagerfeld
Oder: "Nehm' den Stock aus dem Arsch, da sieht die Welt schon viel schöner aus" - Normaler Bürger
How old is that quote? Seems really dated. But I still won't wear joggers outside the house!
2:16 I have "longer shorts" in Jeans style, like it, was great for Cajon playing.
I'm a russian living in Germany and have a german boyfriend. He changed me in the opposite way Dana changed Stefan. When we plan to visit a restaurant or go to the cinema he ALWAYS makes a reservation in advance. I adapted this habit, too.
You guys are so cute. Your relationship reminds me of my relationship with my German boyfriend. Stefan even looks like him.
Love the new background 💙💙💙
Oh how cool, I am going to Florida as well for thanks giving
What a perfect couple you are! Excellent match & i can tell you LOVE each other! ❤ ❤ ❤
animashaun rotimi Hello to you! :-* ❤
😃😃😃 y'all make great videos!!! Keep doing this ok🙋
die perfekte Darstellung von "Gegensätze ziehen sich an" - oder "Stilles Wasser trifft Wasserfall".... ;-)
well, I guess in your case as a couple the saying "Opposites attract" proves true...
You two are so cute together! I can't even find the words. :D
Will you be following the US TV tradition of a launching a sequel series, Mr German Man?
Your husband is so typical german, it's hilarious/ amazing :'D
Always happy to see Stefan.
Nice video! How did you guys meet? :) maybe you can make a video about it since your storytelling is fun to listen :D
H Helga Y i would be interested in that as well
How cute you are!😍 I think its also a interesting question how much stefan changed you😀.
