Another awesome squirrel video looks like the double baffle worked a treat but man they are persistent little critters aren't they? Sorta like mini Terminators LOL!!!
I have problems I guess. 🤣 Everytime you put out a new squirrel video you can Gaurentee I'm going to watch it more then once. 🤣 I don't comment Everytime anymore because I've noticed when commenting thats the only time my channel gets looked at. I want my channel to be looked at when my new videos come out, not just because I show support. Can't wait for more shenanigans!!
Maybe if you put a single baffle above the bird table, but put it 'wide at the top' instead of narrow at the top. That way, they would have to climb up and over the rim to get to the bird table? Great video my friend . .Enjoyed . .
But the question I have is.... while all of this jumping was going on, how much enjoyment did you get watching your birds feed? We ended up with our feeders on metal poles from the ground with a healthy slathering of Vaseline and hot red pepper powder. They learned quickly it was not worth the pain and eventually they went to better hunting grounds.
Being as I have a total of 8 other bird feeders setup with baffles....I got lots of enjoyment watching the birds on those feeders as I performed my tests. Thanks for asking....have a good one!
Yup...they are truly amazing in-flight...their head immediately locks in on landing place and never moves...they flatten their body out to increase drag and have a parachute effect...and they use their tail for a rudder...perhaps I've studied them too much haha
Hi Chris, I must have problems as full watch. I love watching your continuing battles with the squirrels. One question, Do you sleep with one eye open in case the squirrels gang up together? LOL. Take care Chris. Cheers, Huw
If your baffle was wider or your feeder was thinner it would have worked with only one baffle. My granddad's rule of thumb is if the squirrels are coming from above and you have a 1 foot wide bird feeder you want a 2 ft wide baffle. For example when we had bird feeders made out of two-liter bottles we used a modified punchbowl as the Baffle. When we had bird feeders made out of dinner plates we used trash can lids as baffles
I use these cones but I installed them on the Jacob hooks that I hand my feeders from. They are about 4 feet from the ground. My feeders are in my yard away from trees, fence, house, poles, or anything else they can jump from and land on a feeder.
lol well we already knew you had some problems Dave :-)! Couple weeks after filming they still slide down that darn PVC and get throwed by baffles about 10x a day....one could argue they think its fun??? ha
hahaha dude I kid you not he tries at least 20x a day....every day! Hasn't made it yet but I won't be surprised one bit to walk outside and see him in the feeder w/ either a big grin on his face....of his middle finger pointed at me....or both lol
Yup I agree that may work! I was working with commercially available baffles...not sure why they use this particular size but they do :-) Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
oh my too funny! yes you do have a ninja squirrel there! LOL! When you put the baffle on the bottom I could just see those squirrels shaking their heads & saying, "Beaten by a baffle" Love your vids!
My pole feeder is not near a tree - my squirrel baffle works because they have no where to jump from and its attached to pole. I did invest in some cages to put around my feeders and I only put white millet and safflower in my open feeder. Squirrels do not like safflower (chipmunks do, however) I feed my squirrels. I toss peanuts away from the feeders for them to find both shelled and unshelled.
I watched so many vids of Squirrels vs Feeder and the conclusion is that your version of Squirrels are more savage than others... At least +500% savagery in them :P Keep em coming
Just a thought - a single baffle, inverted sitting on a collar round the pvc would stop them. As a squirrel tried to get over the rim, the baffle would tip and eject the beast. Possibly even more hillarious footage! I enjoyed the B-roll footage. PS. When it rains, the water collecting in this would be another deterrent.
Howdy...I'm sure other methods would work too...but this one is 100% effective 3 months in...not reason for me to make any changes haha! Thanks for stopping by!
I would think a larger single baffle would work. The small one allowed them to fall directly onto the bird feeder. That aside, seems to me that trying to stop squirrels get to bird feeders is much more entertaining the feeding birds!
Yup I agree a bigger one would work....but I was testing out the commercially available baffles and for whatever reason...they make this size...who knows why??
@@CruzesLouisianaOutdoors yea they want us to keep buying their expensive baffles. Thinking a large round trash can lid would be big enough to act as a single baffle
I've found they can jump up to 46"...anything higher than that is a no-go...for grey squirrels that is! Larger baffle would indeed work I think...but I was testing commercially available baffles...thanks for stopping by!

It's also important to have the baffle absolutely smooth so the squirrel has nothing to grip to. By the way I had a cat who jumped over six feet up and caught birds. Ask me how I know all this!
Single baffle above needs to be twiceas wide as your small ones, that way it kicks them out further, the one you use is about as wide as a squirrel is long so some can manage to grab the edge and get a swing in under it to drop on or next to the feeder. making the top one twice as wdie as a squirrel is long means they cant get to the edge to catch and swing under you can make them youself but cutting some cheap sheet tin from hardware store
Yup I agree completely...a single baffle that was larger would work...or as the video shows...2 smaller baffles do the trick as well. Thanks for stopping by!
Raccoons in feeders are a problem here. We used rat guards on mooring lines in the Navy. Those were about 3' in diameter. Something that big may defeat raccoons......maybe not. Raccoons are pretty crafty also.

There's a video on UA-cam of a squirrel jumping off of a pretty tall skyscraper and landing safely. Their bodies basically turn into parachutes that allow them to glide to the ground.
You have enough squirrel activity that would make a great gumbo!
