Common sight in Trieste - Italy but on the border to former Jugoslavia now Slovenia. At that time the UK- badged Sana was sold in Jugoslavia as Zastava Florida....designed by Giorgio Giugiaro and considering the long-lasting partnership between Fiat and Zastava, the Sana/Florida looked very much like to the Fiat Uno, this latter also designed by Giugiaro. Engines were shared with the Fiat Tipo. The factory was in Kragujevac - formerly in Jugoslavia currently Serbia - and it's still owned by Fiat/Fca/Stellantis. Till a couple of months ago it produced the Fiat 500L. At The moment the factory is being retooled for the production of a new small electric car that's rumored to be sold as Fiat new Panda or new Punto nameplates in 2024.
I liked the full instruments of gauges in the cluster and compliment of warning lights, which you didn't get on even the Ford Escort Ghia, for example, The styling wasn't bad either.
I never owned one, but Yugo's Skoda and Lada's were popular in Cornwall. And regarded as good value. I think that I would rather have bought a two or three year old Escort for the same money.
Great video! Do we know if Yugo were still using the Zastava name by this point, or had it been dropped? I remember that brand name appeared on the Fiat 128-derived 311.
Tiff Needell did a review on old Top Gear. It was unsurprisingly very cheaply put together. I remember him commenting on the weak looking hatch struts and thin, unsubstantial front seats. The Fiat engine was decent and proven though and it was so much better looking than their previous offerings. I think the Skoda Favorit was a better car by far. Those press comments were carefully cherry-picked!
I'm not a fan of these. They look very awkwardly styled especially around the C and D pillars. The rear seatbelts are of a static only type, so Yugo did just the minimum to make the Sana legally compliant for UK sales. A good attempt by Yugo to introduce a more modern car. Had I been old enough to drive at turn of the 1990s and was in the market for a bargain hatchback, I would be considering the Skoda Favorit, Hyundai Pony or Proton Aeroback (Saga) .
We in the US never received the Sana, which is such a shame! I have driven a Yugo which I believe had fuel injection and possibly a five speed manual, much better than when it was first imported in 1986. The Kosovo war killed Yugo for the US as well, starting with Saryjevo where the winter Olympics was held as well as where Yugos were manufactured.
Yugo was manufactured in Serbia,Kragujevac, not sarajevo.Do your homework first becoz you can not put us in d same sentence with turkish servants from "bosnia".

This was very interesting and not as bad as I remember!

Yes it was also known as the Zastava Florida.

This was one of the better Yugos, I would personally had one over the elderly design 45 and 55.
