    I would have loved to witness this. The kiwis are such an impressive representation of macho man. A fine specimen of the male species. And we owe them so much for their contributions to two world wars. Cheers kiwis, proud to have you on board. Dave, from Nottingham, uk.

    It's a traditional war dance from Maori culture. In this case it was being used to challenge the English in the coming rugby match vs. New Zealand.

    I loved the little guy next to the front row..holding his own with the adult males. the "Haka" is very interesting to observe and I would love to see it in person. To feel the ground shake with their foot stomps, the air alive with their emotions.

      Its ok you dont understand. but maybe before you speak next time about a haka maybe you learn that there are different haka's an this haka does not call for war.

    • @yosomasive4511
      @yosomasive4511 9 років тому +1

      The Haka was practiced before a war between tribes ... So it does call for war. In this case though it calls for some friendly competition.

    • @nyxxxxyn4097
      @nyxxxxyn4097 8 років тому

      OP is kind of right, the words are ka mate, which roughly means die. So yeah, it alludes to war. But in the context it's used it's a war of teams/nations in a game.

    • @Maiier
      @Maiier 6 років тому +1

      Do you know the next words? It’s ‘Ka Ora’ which means to live. Ka Mate was a haka written by a great Maori Chief, Te Rauparaha, when he was being chased down by the British invaders. This haka is about him not giving into death, but by living to see another sun.

    I don't understand why people think Haka is exclusively performed by men. There are haka's which are entirely performed by woman. In most cases woman are there for support, but sometimes they fully participate as much as the men. The woman in this haka participated in support, their dance was not entirely the same.

    On average there is a haka performed every 37 seconds in New Zealand. A haka used to be something special but nowdays they find any old reason to do one. Cuzzy Steven has arrived at the airport....let´s do a haka. They opened up a new library at school.....let´s do a haka. Auntie Moana just made her best banana cake ever.....let´s do a haka.

    Viewed a few comments in here saying that women shouldn't be doing things like this, blah blah blah about femininity and what not. Kiwi women are just as strong and fierce as men in Maori culture.
    Google the RWC 2011 opening Haka. Performed by Te Matarae I Orehu showcasing women's ability to hold their own. In Maori history the women are just as fierce as men, why shouldn't they be able to stand by their men?
