“It ain’t that hard.” It’s an easy thing to say, but far from the truth. Full disclosure, Chukar hunting is very hard. These birds live primarily at the tops of the mountains, on the edge of cliffs that your well-trained bird dog could free fall and die chasing after, they’re fast (3-5x faster than pheasant), flighty, and dive off of cliffs and primarily offer you downhill sweeping shots from left to right, or vice versa, that you can’t practice at the range.
It ain’t that hard just ain’t the truth, if it was you’d probably see a lot of dead chukar on this channel. BUT, if you like to get your ass kicked on a hike, don’t mind common failure, see beautiful scenery from the mountain tops, and get a bird hunt in as difficult or harder than a bow hunt for elk in the high country, this is your sport.

I have a female boxer that when hiking with her, she will zig zag through the terrain about 15-20 yards in front of me. She’s flushed dove out of trees, rabbits out of bushes and quail out of shrubs… if she see’s or smells an animal hiding, she’ll stop and hold! It came natural to her, I never trained her to hunt! Unfortunately, she’s getting old and probably couldn’t do a full day of hunting… I’d give her 4 hours tops…
