As someone getting into hunting these kinds of videos are extremely beneficial. I think we are all trying to become less dependent on everyday grocery stores.

Good times! I've been out there at WWC several times, and live just a couple miles away from there. Hunted that same patch you did. Thanks for sharing.

Hey that’s my back yard literally. Wasatch wing and clay is a cool company. And they definitely contribute to there being a native pheasant population in the near by area lol. Some that make it away end up surviving for years. Nice 👍

years ago I grew up in the finger lakes region of New York. First day of bird season school would give us a pass for the whole day! As a teen I would go with my father and grandfather. many memories. Sad to say most of the pheasants are now gone from that region. Thanks Mike for your great work.

Pheasant hunting is fun! Don't feel bad about a few misses on your first outing Mike! For a guy who hasn't shot a shotty at clays to be out tagging birds on his first day is actually really good. It takes a few shots to get the lead perfect, as I'm sure you found out.
My first pheasant trip was with a buddy who hasn't shot much skeet (I was new as well) and our guide was a vietnam vet named John who worked the fields in Kansas where we hunted. We had a box of shells between us. Our guide grabbed one shell from his bench seat and led the way.
We came back empty handed. John humbly let us have his bird.

I have hunted birds in Oregon since I could keep up. We used to go out as high schoolers and group hunt until we all had our limits. Multiple dogs and great friends with delicious rewards at the end. Many a great tailgate lunch while hunting. I miss those days. Hunting Chuckers in Oregon is chase them uphill until you can barely stand up then try to shoot them as they rocket down to the bottom of the canyon or go over the next ridge. Then do it again. Thank you, dogs, you save us so much work. Or it is so cold the guns freeze up and you carry the heaviest single shot ever made. Thanks for bringing back fond memories.

Mike glad you enjoyed the hunt. Back in wva at the age of 9 and with 22 long rifle squirrel hunting was awesome. But as I later 14 my uncle took me squirrel hunting with 16 gauge shot gun pump I asked why the shot gun and he said was good for squirrels and grouse and ring neck pheasant. Boy what a scare. In the hills and briar thickets those birds would either jump right in front of you are 2 to 3 steps behind and scared the crap out of you. My uncle being a Vietnam veteran began to school me in how to expect to be unexpected to maintain calmness to make the shot. Also in the mountains those birds would duck cover in flight around larger trees very evasive birds in that environment. Suddenly squirrel was easy the challenge and fun was the grouse and pheasants. Haven't hunted there in 35 years after watching this the hills and birds are calling. Thanks

As a kid the rule was. If it's rainy and cold you hunt Ducks & Geese, if it's sunny and warm you hunt Pheasant. The rush one gets when you flush up a male pheasant at your feet, crowing with their amazing feather coloring's shining in the sun was always an awesome experience I'll never forget. The sheer beauty of the bird eventually leading me to stop hunting them.

The partridge/ruffed grouse in eastern North American will start running and cover as much ground as they can before they flush. Difficult hunting you’d ought to check it out!

Opening day of deer and pheasant season, were the two most important days for me in the 50s and 60s.
In the 60s there were 200,000 deer hunters in Utah and a deer behind every bush. Now theres less than half that amount and going down fast. Opening day is just another Saturday! The blame falls on the college boys who took family out of hunting. Ask a friend if he was going to the annual deer camp and he replied yes. I ask how many had tags, and he said nobody, but can't let tradition die.😢

Started my sons with doves, at age 5 they retrieved the birds and if not dead snapped their necks, age 6 they cleaned the birds. Age 7 they were shooting birds. Age 12 I only gave them 20 shells, daily limit was 15 doves. Aim small , miss small.

Bird hunting is so much fun. Now you have to go duck and goose hunting. Get out there before dark, set up your decoys and then sit in the blind waiting for the sun to come up so you can start calling them in.
You need to come to the imperial valley for dove opener. Dove are like little jets, they can jink left or right to miss your shot. It’s a blast because you have to get in a fly way and ambush them as they fly by. Pheasant hunting with a good dog is my absolute favorite

Gotta hold the gun with two hands when youre hunting pheasant. Like a relaxed high ready. The one handed shotgun walk-thru-the-field doesnt work. Pheasant hunting is awesome with a big group of friends. Get techincal with how u choke off a cut row. Friggen nuts when 10 people empty semi autos in 10 seconds and drop a dozen or so birds back down to earth. Might even use the word “tactical” and yell allahu akbar to get birds up. Vets in my group count the days till pheasant season.
