I adore the very next scene when he lifts his head in the cell and you see that he wasn't actually crying at all. He really is Hannibal's equal. Maybe even his superior if he actually allowed himself to take the liberties Hannibal takes. No one can fool Hannibal like Will can. He can morph himself into anything he needs to be to fool Hannibal because to some extent the emotions are real. He fools Hannibal here with fake tears but he means everything. He truly is betrayed by him, which is why his tears are so believable. The same with him convincing Hannibal that he's changed and that he wants to be a killer with him in the second half of season 2. Hannibal believes it cause to some extent, a part of Will means it. What Hannibal couldn't see was that these dark parts of Will are never the majority and stand no chance against his empathy and goodness. Will can kill, he might even choose it, but he is in no way a killer.
I am late to reply. But this is exactly what I thought while watching the show. Will is damn good at manipulating Hannibal because part of him already belongs to Hannibal. He just doesn't want to accept it until the very end.
lmao this scene has always been funny to me because of how well he portrays this heart broken man, and even though the entire audience knows he's faking it they still feel the need to sympathize with him. it's also hilarious to watch a non-fannibal try to interpret this scene and become emotional from it. hugh dancy is one talented man.
Will deserved an Oscar for this one. He was selling this so well. I'm rewatching the show and it is hysterical to me how Hannibal keeps acting like an obsessed pick-me fan of Will. He's diabolical but it's almost sad how desperately he clings to just Will, while neglecting all else in his life. No other relationship feels real to him except the one with Will.

He actually wasnt planing on framing will but had to do it coz will was getting closer to find out the truth that hanni is the ripper so he already had set plan to frame will and then do murders to let people know that will isnt a ripper and cherry on top that will asked for his help so it will be easy for hanni to manipulate will into joining him and will be on his side lol their relation is twisted and feelings evolved throught out the seasons and this was the peak where will was changing and embracing his dark side coz hannibal's betrayal changed him
