I love that you mention how handwriting changes dependent on mood! Mine changes all the time, from mood, to writing instrument, paper, time, etc. and it's refreshing to have that validated.
Boy did I need this. I am 70 - when I was 6 to about 10, we practiced handwriting every single day in school. We were graded on our "penmanship" and over the years I have learned to write messy and it has just stayed that way. ;) Thank you so much for this.
Dear Lindsey, as a matter of fact you‘ve become my teacher for about 8 years now. I started learning with you out of two reasons: I wanted to calm down, come back to myself after a burnout or in the course of one. The next reason is that I wanted to say goodbye to being that superficial, but being someone who starts to create beauty. And there you gave me all that was needed - the encouragement, the techniques and the help in buying the stuff I need. Your courses and worksheets are excellent. And I admire the way you organize everything with your little ones. Thank you, Lindsey, for everything. What I do now is completely different, but I can write beautifully, I watch my handwriting, it’s important to me to organize the paper I write on or paint on ..
Wow! What an amazing story and journey. These stories from you all is what keeps me inspired to continue my work. I am overjoyed that you have stuck with my platforms and me as your teacher for so many years! Your loyalty means a lot and I am really happy to hear that my content is still relevant to you. It is my goal to continue to encourage others and keep those who are like-minded interested in the art and craft that writing and calligraphy is can can be! I am so appreciative of your support and I hope that I continue to make content that suits you and that you enjoy. Cheers! -Lindsey
I wish I discovered you years ago, but I'm SO happy I found you when I did just a couple years ago. Just doing the warmup drills and actually relaxing has improved my handwriting so much. It's easy to forget the simple things sometimes. Thank you for your videos, worksheets, website, emails, tutorials, courses, and EVERYTHING!
It's kind of surprising to see how far you turn the page counterclockwise--I'm left-handed and have recently started turning the page 90° clockwise. It means re-teaching myself how to write, but I'm now writing in generally-legible cursive for the first time in about 40 years, and with a fountain pen. Lots of room for improvement, but it's already come a long way.
Yes, I totally agree you! And wished I had seen this video before because it took me a little long to find out that handwriting depends on the pen you connect with. Totally in love with your points✨😍
I always love coming back to your handwriting worksheets and course. They are a reminder to take notice of bad habits that I may have picked up along the way and make simple corrections.
I have been a hard pen-clutcher for most of my life, and after a while writing, my hand gets sore. When I try and relax it, I lose control over the shape and placement of my letters. I'm going to try your worksheet and see if that will help me retrain my hand and grip to just chill out, lol! Thanks so much for sharing it, Lindsey!
Ha! Totally get it, it is an issue that many people have! Good luck with the worksheets! Hopefully the repetition is helpful and you can restrain your grip so your hand doesn't hurt!
Thank you so much for these tips! I've downloaded the worksheets and am ready to start my journey to better handwriting. I'll let you know how it goes. 🙂
My ex criticised my handwriting at one point in time and now I write very stiffly. I've decided I'm going to go back to the basics and start from scratch. I especially have problems with letters that have a hump, ie. 'm', 'n', 'h'.
You’ve got this! Going back to basics is a great step, and I’m sure you’ll notice big improvements. Keep practicing those “m,” “n,” and “h” letters-they’ll get smoother with time! 💛
My handwriting is all over the place. Some days it’s messy - rushed, some days it’s neat and tidy - take my time, some times it’s beautiful - conscience writing. You are spot on. A nice smooth pen is key!
Hi Lindsey, all I can say is another fantastic video that has helped me. Not so much improve my handwriting but to remember learning cursive at school and recapping the basics needed to regain lovely handwriting. Thank you 🥰
My pleasure! I am so happy that you have found it useful and that this video sparked some inspiration to remember those basic technique! Thank you for watching!
I have been periodically working on improving my handwriting for the last five years or so and you have encouraged me to stick with it! I really loved your description of what handwriting reflects- it made me feel a lot less guilty for my messy notes 😝 Thank you for a great video!
I have been writing hundreds of letters and postcards in a GOTV campaign. I switched to your recommended pen long ago. It makes writing smooth and fun. But these tips are so simple and effective. I improved the look of my handwritten letters 100% by following your advice. Thanks for these tips.
I actually bought this course and have worked my way through about half of it. I love the "why" of the exercises and understand I am supposed to repeat the actions. It will be interesting to see the final comparison between before and after. Best thing so far: I have been able to leave a legible grocery list other people in this house can read!!!! Thanks, kk
Hey, when the fruit of your efforts is literal fruit (I'm guessing, haha!), you know you're on the right path. ;) I'd love to see a before/after comparison, too, if you're willing to share! Thanks for the kind comment. :)
thank you for this. I’m 20, learned cursive in kinder and first grade but then they took it out of schools. This really helped as my handwriting varies dramatically. I’m self taught now but I used to be so self conscious of how varied my handwriting is. Having that variety validated is greatly appreciated lol thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that you found the video helpful! It's wonderful that you've taken the initiative to teach yourself and improve your handwriting. Remember, the uniqueness of your handwriting is a part of what makes it yours, and it's absolutely okay for it to vary - it adds character! Keep embracing that variety and continue to practice in a way that feels right to you. Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment! I’m now 2 weeks post surgery and ready to begin in earnest. My initial goal was to improve the legibility of my cursive scribble. This began as I recalled my grandfather’s fountain pen and wished I had access to his fountain pen. He was a high school chemistry/physics teacher whom I have always admired. At 79 I realized how much my script had deteriorated. I entered the world of fountain pens. I discovered my favorites to be Waterman Expert and Parker 51. Now it’s time to move into improving the legibility of my cursive. Ultimately my goal is calligraphy. Your recommendations would be?
Hi Lindsey. I am excited to begin the hand lettering and cursive writing courses. I appreciate the information you share in the video. I relate to the section how a tight grip around a pen will not create a free flowing, loose, and beautiful lettering. I also agree how a comfortable favorite pen entices me to write.
I find a rollerball is better to write with than a biro. The ink is wetter and allows the tip to flow across the paper more easily. It allows me to relax my hand. I take a lot of notes and my wiring can get messy. Good quality paper is also a big help.
When I was in grade school, we were taught ovals and up-and-down strokes. (I know, stone age and catholic school). I had beautiful handwriting. But now, from being on a laptop or a phone it has gone by the wayside. I have trouble writing "m" and "n". I'm not sure how many loops there are in each letter! It's frustrating when I handwrite cards; forget about a handwritten letter! I'm happy I found your channel to help me. Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Paula! It’s incredible how much time on laptops and phones can change our handwriting. I totally understand the frustration with certain letters, especially "m" and "n" - you're not alone in that! I’m so glad you found my channel, and I hope the tips help you feel more confident with your handwriting again. Do you have any tips for changing from left to right hand writing? Also, pen selection and grip for large hands? I feel like in a "normal" grip my palm is almost facing down instead of out.
Hi Josh! If you're transitioning from left to right hand writing, I'd start by practicing basic strokes and letter formations to familiarize yourself with the new writing direction. (A worksheet like this one -- thepostmansknock.com/catalog/improve-your-print-handwriting-worksheet/ -- could really help with that.) Take it slow and be patient with yourself. As for pen selection, look for pens with a comfortable grip and ink flow that suits your writing style. For individuals with larger hands, it's important to find pens with wider barrels or ergonomic designs to ensure a comfortable grip. Alternatively, you could try buying some pen grips on Amazon to make the grip larger, which could make a huge difference! After you've found a pen that works for you, experiment with holding it different ways and at various angles to find what feels most natural for you. If your palm feels too close to the paper, try adjusting your grip so that your palm faces slightly outward, allowing for a more relaxed writing position. Remember, practice makes progress; take it slow, and if you start to get discouraged, call it a day so you can start fresh later. Happy writing!
@@LindseyBugbeeTPK I am trying to write with my right hand now. I'm mildly ambidextrous. I perform different activities with different dominant hands. On the dash drill should I be pulling the pen to my hand with my fingers or moving it across the paper with my wrist?
