Iqbal Bano the singer of great melodies which have enthralled millions of music lovers for more than a decade, was born in Delhi. She started taking her first lessons in music at the tender age of seven from Ustad Chand Khan of Delhi, a celebrated musician of the Tan Ras Khani School. Ustad Chand Khan soon realised that the child was a prodigy who had an intuitive understanding of the intricacies of art and was destined some day to be "The darling of the MUSES".
In Pakistan, Iqbal Bano continued her musical pursuits under the guidance of another veteran musician, Ustad Kareem Khan, who likewise prophesied a great feture for the artist in the making. The prophesy was more than realised. Equipped with an exceptional back-ground of classical music, the talented singer has innovated a new style in light classical music, which is peculiarly her own-superb and inimitable.
Iqbal Bano's range of voice is remarkable. She has-equal command over both the soothingly mellow and soft lower notes and the sparklingly lively and clear higher ones.She sings with the verve of a great performer. Her musical renderings, which are in perfect harmony with the spirit of the poetic composition, convey the composer's depth of feeling with remarkable precision. Recently a critic very aptly described the impact of her melodies on an enthralled audience thus:

This poem (Nazm) was written in 1979 by Poet Faiz Saheb, against the rule of Pak President ZiaulHaq. His government is referred as Tyrants in this Poem, because of curb on the freedom of speech during his Reign.
She sang this ghazal while wearing black Sari with over 50000 Fans in Alhamra Art Council/ Railway stadium Lahore on 13 Feb 1986.
In this gazal (poem) ‘Kaba’ is referred to High Offices (Parliaments etc), &
‘Bout (idols)’ is referred to corrupt People holding high Positions (Ministers, Tyrant Rulers, MPs, Officers etc.).

Sorry Sir, this poem was written as against the Nau-Colonialism all around the World, Being comrade Faiz Sb. Slammed all the tyrants of humanity, all the occupational thoughts on earth. The people who know Faiz Sb. are well aware of this fact and Faiz Sb. himself presented this poem at many forums with a deliberation of larger scale expression. This such poem is still popular in Palestine as it considered there as a song of liberty. This is true that this was written during mentioned regime but it is marginally associated with it and largely with universal oppression of the common people, the wreched of the earth. Please do not limit this master piece to the regime of Zia ul Haq. Thank You Very Much.

In the same year, Iqbal Bano, came out to resist this forced religiosity. She came up with an act of beautiful defiance, where she sang ‘Hum Dekhenge‘, to an audience of nearly 50,000 people in a Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, wearing a beautiful black saree- despite the poet’s works being banned by General Zia ul-Haq’s military regime on the grounds of his close ties with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

Faiz sahib ( who had a double master in Arabic and English from GC Lahore ) a great poet indeed, cleverly transferred the exact imagery of the last Day ( roz e Qiyamat in Islamic eschatology ) and transferred it masterfully to the then extant days of Zia’s dictatorship. All metaphors, loaned from the Quran, a 1400 year old book, are still applicable fully. Genius poetry indeed. Faiz sahib and my father Khawaja Khurshid Anwar were best friends since school days, and died one month apart in 1984. May God bless them both.

Our sincere Gratitude to such a great singer who created history being the voice of 50,000 people in a stadium against the then tyrant ruler of Pakistan . Genuinely a rare persona having altogether an artistic mind and bold character to be vocal against inhuman Leaders in Power. This poetry is the eternal message from suppressed common people to tyrant rulers irrespective of space n time of history.
Sad reality is, India has abandoned a language which actually originated from present India. It has even made a language communal i.e Urdu language of muslims. In Bollywood movies, muslims characters are seen speaking urdu whereas hindu characters speak hindi. That was not the case till 70s.

Like creator of Pakistan, Fiaz was never a Muslim by faith. He never was true follower of the holy book. He picked up some part of Sura and created this against autocracy of dictator who introduced Sharia law over Pakistan. This great singer picked up this lyrics just to revolt against making sari 🥻 unislamic for Pakistani women.
Great tragedy which followed this incident, is that rulers of Pakistan never looked beyond the words and never acted to make it reality. Take example of current prime minister Imran Khan. He is one of the best example to study not only in Pakistan but across the globe. He came with vision of establishing rule of Madina. Nothing wrong in it. If majority demands it, it should be rigorously worked out and made it a reality. *Did he?*

Ana al haq (اناالحق) was a slogan and is referred to history when a muslim sufi called Mansoor Hallaaj denied a tyrant muslim ruler and accepted death penalty instead of refusing and leaving his slogan which was “ana al haq” (there are different interpretations of this slogan later on)
