- Radio Mirchi's RJ Sayema translates and explains Faiz Ahmed Faiz's poem Hum Dekhenge in this video. The poem, 'Hum dekhenge', which has grown into a protest staple with a tune of its own, was sung at a December 17 march organised in solidarity with the students of Jamia Millia Islamia, upon whom police had unleashed violence on December 15. The poem was also recited at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur which later snowballed into a controversy big enough for the institution to form a panel to decide whether the spirit of the poem is ‘anti-Hindu’.

इस पैटर्न को समझिए, बस --
1. उन्नाव में रेप किसने किया भाजपा विधायक कुलदीप सेंगर ने, FIR किस पर दर्ज की गई?...रेप पीड़ित बच्ची पर, अंत में उसके परिवार पर ट्रक चढ़वा दिया सो अलग।
2. बलात्कार किसने किया बीजेपी के गृहमंत्री "स्वामी चिन्मयानंद" ने, एफआईआर किस पर दर्ज हुई? पीड़ित बच्ची पर।
3. भीमा कोरेगांव में हिंसा किसने फैलाई? मोदी जी के गुरु सम्भाजी भिड़े ने। FIR किस पर हुई? पिटने वाले प्रोफेसरों, लेखकों और ऑर्गेनाइजरों पर। और उन्हें अर्बन नक्सली भी घोषित कर दिया।
4. छत्तीसगढ़ में आदिवासी सौनी सोरी के चेहरे पर तेजाब किसने फिंकवाया? डीएसपी कल्लूरी ने। FIR किसपर की गई? पीड़ित सौनी सोरी पर (कल्लूरी का क्या हुआ? कल्लूरी का प्रमोशन हुआ)
5. अखलाक की हत्या किसने की? बीजेपी विधायक संगीत सोम समर्थक भीड़ ने। FIR किसपर दर्ज हुई? मृतक अखलाक के परिवार पर।
6. गोरखपुर मेडिकल कॉलेज में 100 से अधिक बच्चों की मौत हुई, जिम्मेदारी आनी थी योगी पर। लेकिन FIR किसके नाम चढ़ा दी गई? डॉ कफ़ील पर.., उस इंसान पर जो वहां बच्चों को बचाने के लिए दौड़-धूप कर रहा था। डा. कफील पर ही FIR क्यों चढ़वाई? क्योंकि उस बेचारे के नाम में ही मुसलमान था, और योगी का नाम उस केस में से कैसे भी करके निकालना था।
6. इंस्पेक्टर सुबोध सिंह को गोली किसने मारी? भाजपा समर्थकों ने । माला पहनाकर स्वागत किसका किया गया? सुबोध के हत्यारों का..।
7. JNU प्रेजिडेंट आइशी घोष के सर पर रॉड किसने मारी? डीयू से बुलाए गए ABVP के नकाबपोश गुंडों ने। FIR किसपर दर्ज हुई? पीड़ित
आईशी पर, जो खुद मरने से जैसे-तैसे बची है।
8. योगी ने मुख्यमंत्री बनते ही स्व जांच करके खुद के ऊपर की सारी FIR हटा लीं। कुछ दिन पहले मोदी जी को गुजरात दंगों के लिए क्लीन चिट मिल ही चुकी है। अमित शाह के केस में जज 'जस्टिस लोया' का क्या हुआ सबको मालूम है ही।
8. अंत में रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह की एक बात "इस सरकार में मंत्रियों के इस्तीफे नहीं होते। ये एनडीए है, यूपीए नहीं। " मतलब आप कितने भी कांड कर दीजिए, कोई एफआईआर नहीं होनी, कोई जांच नहीं होनी, कोई इस्तीफे नहीं होने।
और सबसे मजेदार चीज और सुनिए, सभी राज्यों की पुलिस, सेना, अर्धसैनिक, इस देश में होने वाले अपराधों के लिए, सुरक्षा के लिए, किसे रिपोर्ट करती है? गृह मंत्रालय को, यानी कि तड़ीपार अमित शाह को! जो खुद एक क्रिमिनल है, जिसपर खुद दर्जनों हत्याओं और अपहरणों के केस चल रहे हैं।
लेकिन आप टेंशन मत लीजिए, जबतक आपके खुद के किसी दोस्त, भाई, प्रेमिका, रिश्तेदार की 'सरकारी हत्या' नहीं होती, तबतक आप व्हाट्सएप पर गुड मॉर्निंग भेजते रहिए.
सबेरा और उजाला तब नहीं होता जब सूर्योदय होता है, उसके लिए आंखें भी खोलनी पडती है।
_आप ने इसे पढ़ने के लिए समय दिया उसका बहुत बहुत धन्यवाद । अब एक एहसान और करदो इस संदेश को अन्य 10-20 साथियों में और ग्रुप मे भेज दो। बस यही तरीका है अपने साथियों को जागरूक करने का।_

This poem was written as against the Nau-Colonialism all around the World, Being comrade Faiz Sb. Slammed all the tyrants of humanity, all the occupational thoughts on earth. The people who know Faiz Sb. are well aware of this fact and Faiz Sb. himself presented this poem at many forums with a deliberation of larger scale expression. This such poem is still popular in Palestine as it considered there as a song of liberty. This is true that this was written during mentioned regime but it is marginally associated with it and largely with universal oppression of the common people, the wreched of the earth. Please do not limit this master piece to the regime of Zia ul Haq. Thank You Very Much.

I love this poem it has so much power and honesty but at times people use this kind of powerful piece of art for their own selfish reason which is so sad and disappointing but at the end of the day just as this beauty says “truth always triumphs” aka satyamev jayate.

The poem simply means oppression (Tyranny/ Dictatorship/ Authoritarianism) will one day end and rule-by-the-masses (Democracy/ Republic) will prevail. The present debate doesn't hold water for two reasons: 1. Faiz was a Marxist. So don't even think the poem has any religious connotations, on the contrary, it talks against it allegorically as this poem was sort of a protest poem against Zia ul Haq, arguably a stuanch fundamentalist. 2. The references to God, people of God, House of God, Idols, etc are allegorical simply to put forward the ultimate truth as discussed earlier.

I have been truly hunting for a somewhat lucid explanation of 'Hum Dekhenge' after the assassination -yes, beyond doubts, of Father Stan Swami. The bold and bright presentation needs to be shared in order to give a voice to those handful few, perhaps, who haven't yet succumbed to the prevailing 'executioner' (jahllad) rule/raj .
Excellent , few difficult Urdu words have been explained very nicely which made it to understand in full sense . Thanks
