    Nice vid and thanks for posting capacities. Here's some steps for adding the fluid from a VAG guide in case it helps anybody wanting to tackle this. I'd absolutely do the "measure and replace" method like you did too. It states the "inspection opening" is the black center part you first took off that fluid drained from.
    _Guide filler hook of ATF filling tool (V.A.G. 1924) into opening of protective cap. Do not push cap up. Add fluid unit it drips out inspection hold.
    _ Start engine and switch off again after 20 seconds.
    _Once more, add ATF using filler tool until ATF drips from the inspection opening.
    _Start engine.
    _Continue adding ATF until ATF drops from the inspection opening again.
    _Tighten ATF inspection plug.
    _While pressing the brake pedal and with the vehicle at idle, shift through all selector level positions (P,R, N,D,and S) leaving each position engaged for at least 10 seconds.
    _Place selector lever in position "N".
    _Increase engine speed to 2000 rpm and maintain for at least 60 seconds.
    _Place selector lever in position "P". (Note I noticed it didn't say to turn off car for last step)
    _Check ATF level and top off referring to [ATF Level, Checking]

    Great video, im just going to change the centre diff fluid as well on an A4 with 6HP-19A. Some interesting notes from ZF on the transmission fluids are that the front diff uses 75W90 gl-5 gear oil (G 052 145 A2) and the centre diff uses the exact same gear oil 75W90 + 4% friction modifier for the torsen diff. (G 055 145 A2 = G 052 145 A2 + 4% Sturaco FM) This is straight from ZF notes. If anyone prefers aftermarket fluid for the centre diff make sure it includes friction modifier or is limited slip rated.

      Yes you are correct!

    • @zaheerally511
      @zaheerally511 Рік тому +1

      Did it specify in the notes that this special center diff fluid should only be used on initial fill or refill? I read that this fluid should not be used on refill, something about too much off Sturaco being held up in the diff causing it to not function properly. The diff oil for the front and rear diff should work on the center for refill, well that's what I've been reading...

    • @robertficek7586
      @robertficek7586 Рік тому

      @@zaheerally511 Thats an interesting point, as far as I have read, I have never seen an official note for initial vs. refill. Can you post that note where you read that? From what I have read the quattro center diff is like any Torsen limited slip differential and typical fluid change would be done with like for like fluid. I had blended 4% FM with 75W90 as a refill and haven't noticed any difference with the center diff. IMHO the fluid change on the center diff was a waste of time as I could only get 500ml out and it was very clean and no change in performance.

    Good video. The torque on the pan is around 11 ft/lbs or your snugged fit would do. But you waited 90k miles! The book says first 35k miles then every 40k miles after or every 4-5 yrs, which ever occurs first. Besides that, just becareful about dirt caught along the outside of your feeding tube going into your transmission. The torque on the mount bolts are about right 45-65 ft/lbs depending on size. Hey man, I need some quick advice. I have a 2009 Audi A4 and recently a transmission cooling line popped off causing all the Transmission oil to leak out. Fixed the line problem now i’m stuck with a stripped fill plug. Car has no oil so thought about taking the whole pan off but if there’s a way to remove the stripped plug then that’s easier. It seems weird since if it was metal welding something on would make it easy but it’s like plastic. Heard to use a 17mm but was seeing others say 10mm....but it’s stripped so i’m at a crossroad.

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  3 роки тому

      There is another plug on the side you can fill it from. I show it in the video. If i was you I would fill it up from there. Thats how you do it on the 2011 models. Otherwise yeah you can drop the pan to get the plug out but you are right its plastic so you should be able to jam a torx or hex in there and get it out even if its stripped. Try some stuff, worst case ypu break the plug and buy a new one at the dealer or order online. But fill it up from the side plug that should work.

    I have an 09 a4 quattro 6 speed automatic. Will this zf 8 be okay for my transmission? I always thought it was zf 6 lifeguard. It doesnt look like you use a vagcom to monitor the temperature at all. So I take that we dont need to do that??

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  4 роки тому

      If your 09 is a B8 model the zf8 is correct. Use vagcom to monitor oil temp if you want to. I measured what came out and put a little more in than what came out. If you do not measure or had a leak, then you fill it, run it a few mins, fill it again. Repeat if necessary. If it is freezing cold in your garage then you should monitor temp. Otherwise probably not worth the time. Shop manual says to monitor. Up to you it is your car!

      Should change the transmission fluid every 60 to 80k miles. Changing all the fluids is completely optional. If you do not plan on keeping the car more than 2 years I wouldn’t bother. I have owned mine for 11 years and do not plan to sell it so I want it to not fail.

      I'm pretty sure manual gear box should have fluid changed every 50k miles or so. The owners manual should tell you. If there is nothing in owners manual then change it at least every 80k miles. All oils need to get changed around 80k if not sooner.

    How is your transmission holding up after having done the transmisson fluid change and axle oil changes in the front, center and rear differentials? I am doing the same service to my 2014 Audi A4 quattro 8 speed this week. Funny enough my car too just hit 100k miles. I completely overlooked in the manual about changing the transmission fluid. I don't want my transmission to blow down the line. I'm not an aggressive driver ie track/ racer just a normal point A-B commuter. Figured I still might be ok and ordered all the parts and fluids. 2 Problems I ran into, first the 17mm or 18mm hex bolts could not come off with my ryobi impact drill (I think the same models as yours) luckly I had an impact wrench lying around hooked it up to my air compressor put on the proper adapters and it screwed off the bolts off with the pull of the trigger. Second was that my cars particular x-bracket, as a M13 or an M14 bolt. I ordered a 4 pack of metric bits off amazon highest one went only to m12. Very frustrating but also my fault for not doing my proper due diligence, had to order two sockets of amazon yesterday, my car has been sitting on jacks for 3 days now X(. I have seen all over the web (even scotty kilmers YT channel) that if you don't change your transmission fluid consistently like the manufacturer says in the manual every service interval, its best not to touch it and hope for the best. But, I also heard that only applies to cars that have hit like 180K miles and changing the transmission fluid at that point likely will damage the car. Just wanted to see how your car is holding up today 2 years later. I ordered liquid molly ATF fluid and gear oil. Found an alternative to the G 055 145 A2 center Diff axle oil called "RAVENOL Torsen Center Differential Gear Oil AWD-TOR 1L" its the only slightly cheaper alternative to getting the VW that actually meets the same specifications. (Its german made as well). Thanks so much for this tutorial regardless. Everyone else on youtube is doing transmission fluid changes and diff oil changes on S4s and newer models or decade old a4's nothing for the 2009-2014 A4 B8.5 series your the only one

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Рік тому +1

      Absolutely no issues! You are doing the right thing. People who buy a car with 180k miles and it never had the trans oil changed and change it and have problems, well they would have problems anyway. If you want 200k miles out of your car or more, you need to do more than minimum maintenance. This is not a Honda Civic. As for the Ryobi not taking off the bolts, you need to be using a big 4ah battery. A smaller battery does not give the torque you need. The big battery will even take off wheel studs.

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Рік тому

      Honestly I would not use any ATF fluid other than Audi specific. This is a ZF transmission and it is specific fluid. It’s not like you will ever do this again as long as you own the car most likely. Most problems happen with transmissions when you use non OEM tans fluid. And that goes for any Brand of car or truck. In Honda you use Honda OEM, on Audi you use ZF specific.

I am at 196k miles and honestly do not know if this vehicle has had the trans oil changed (purchased used a few years ago)--the only problem I’m having is the trans wants to stay in 1st or 2nd gear longer than usual when climbing or descending. No hard shifts, etc. Does that symptom indicate a serious problem? Also, with my high mileage-do you think it’s a horrible idea to change/flush the trans oil? Or too risky? I would change the fluid. Never “flush” transmission fluid. Pretty much every time there is a problem after a transmission fluid change, is either the wrong type of fluid was installed, or it was “flushed” out. Only use the original type fluid and you can’t go wrong.

Give it a love tap with a hammer. Then alternate tightening and loosening it. If it rounds off then if you can grab it with a vice grip, use that, otherwise you are stuck with welding a bolt to it and turning the bolt. The joy of working on cars! 🤞

      Yes 8 speed is exactly the same except you fill it from the top hole that I showed, there is no fill hole in the pan like on the 6 speed. Fill the same way I did at first, then start the car, keep filling, and then put through gears with foot on brake and then fill even more until it starts running out. There is an exact methid to fill with monitoring temperature also but main thing is to fill it when fluid is about 98 degrees F warm (body temperature), not hot or cold. If you live in hot climate like me it's 96 every day so I don't worry about checking temp!

I wanna attack the center diff since I have 152k miles and whenever I turn I feel the AWD vibration is a little more than I remember when first buying the car. Is there anyway to do center diff without removing the X-brace and transmission support?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  Рік тому

      Have to remove the transmission support to get to the drain and fill plug for the center section. If you feel any vibrations, I do not think the diffs are causing that, unless they are not full. But you would see a leak in that case. Vibrations are more likely to be tires or wheel bearings, but usually tires would be #1 thing to check. Good luck!

    at 25:27, you opened the "black drain plug"....do you mean the fill plug? did you determine if the unknown side plug provided the proper fluid level? if not, how about removing the side plug while engine is cold and see what the level is.
    is your new atf amber, purple, or green?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  4 роки тому

      The black plug is for filling but I removed it just to see what would happen. You cant check level when the fluid is cold. Has to be checked warm and engine running. With engine running when you pull the black plug very little if anything should come out. It had tons of fluid cold because the torque converter drains down. If you measure how much comes out and fill the same amount you dont have to worry about how you do it. All I can say is the service manual for 6 speed trans says to fill using black plug. 8 speed transmissions fill from side plug. Color of fluid is hard to tell. I used ZF 8 fluid as per spec.

    • @arkrainflood
      @arkrainflood 4 роки тому

      @@CarsandCoding let me rephrase the question: you initially refilled the transmission with the hand pump through the side plug, and then topped it off according to the manual procedure through the black bottom plug. my question is, while the engine is cold, would any fluid pour out of the side plug? if no, how far below the side plug opening might the fluid level be?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  4 роки тому

      @@arkrainflood If car had sat overnight when you remove that side plug or black plug in pan, you will have a huge waterfall of oil come out. You cannot take that plug out without the engine running because the oil has to be in the torque converter, which it only is when running. There is really no way to "check the level". Only way is to start the car, put it through the gears, then with it running remove black plug or side plug and add oil until it runs out.

    Audi dealership told me I do not have to change transmission oil at all on my B8.5... Why do you change it?

    • @CarsandCoding
      @CarsandCoding  3 роки тому +2

      The transmission oil collects metal particles and over time will clog the tiny passages and orifices within the transmission. It will cause the transmission to malfunction over time. The dealer says it never has to be changed because if you never change it, it will not fail or start shifting hard until around 120 to 200k miles. That is a lot of miles and past when people stop taking it to the dealer for maintenance. If you plan on keeping the car past 100k miles then you should change the transmission fluid every 75k miles. So at 75k and 150k miles.
