So happy to see someone who knows what a REAL junk journal is and how you can make something really beautiful out of it 😊 keep on keeping on you beautiful lady 🤗
Thank you. I just went through this book (and its overflow) and enjoyed looking at the scraps: ephemera becomes more lovely and meaningful with the passage of time -- even only a year. This is two years old and taking on new meaning. #glueeverythingdown
So enjoying watching a video of a REAL junk journal. I have yet to make one but, even while watching vintage journals made out of kits, I was thinking I'd rather use my own items than purchasing them. I have a LOT of antique/vintage photos from my grandparents. (I'm 67)
What an enjoyable video. Finally, I see what a junk journal is all about. Now this makes great sense to me and your ideas help me to see what to do with some of the lovely things I have. Thank you.
It's literally a Scrapbook, but the connotation of the word changed in the 1980s-90s from the original: a place for paper ephemera. Junk journal includes the concept of junk mail and disposable packaging/ wrappers.
It's aging well. You never know what little things spark memories, what meanings will change and how. Back to their origin: Scrapbooks, back in Victorian times.
Love it! It's so satisfying to make cool things out of stuff that otherwise would've gone into the waste stream. This book is so cool and I loved listening to your commentary.
I shared this video & a link to your channel on my UA-cam for my subscribers, I hope that’s ok. I’ve always loved this video & it’s brought me lots of inspiration over the years, so I wanted to share it with others. ~Chrissy💗
Please do! I am so happy to hear that. I was just flipping through the book yesterday -- for no reason. Maybe the pages stir up interest in the air as they flip! I've been assembling and decorating Toilet Roll Tube books recently, as well as phasing out plastic glues in favor of rice glue. Videos up.
Best junk journal 📓 video ever❤️ This totally took the pressure off making one. Thinking it has to be cookie cut perfect. It’s junk with memories. That’s what I loved most about yours and history. Thank you for sharing it with us 😁 it’s junk so it’s not perfect but it sure is beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
you remember me to one of my art teachers, she always said that a piece of art is never finished but solved, your junk has become an exquisite collage, actually, it has many decades and sweet remembrances, look like a social study collage, I feel happy to find you!!
I love this soo much!! Awesome journal! And I loved listening to your stories & memories, such a fun, inspiring video. Thank you for sharing your art! I subscribed 😊
Hi I' just subbed and found you through a FB group, the trashy smashy junk Journal group.im new to papercraft so I am learning. Cheers from Canada xoxo
It is! I enjoy going back through it and seeing what has changed in a shorter time than one might think. It makes me realize that 20 years from now it will be even more interesting, for changes yet unknown to us. It is the reincarnation of the original idea of The Scrap Book -- lots of ephemeral paper products became widely dispersed. News, tickets, fliers, cards, labels, stamps, dance cards, invitations, announcements -- little scraps of life, unintended mementoes that make it through the years by being collected in scrapbooks.
Way late too the party but you can buy a camera/phone arm that attaches to your table for about $20 and under on amazon. Hope that helps if ur still struggling. Great junk!
Thank you so much. I was just flipping through it yesterday: these really do make nice journals of the bits and pieces of printed images that come our way every day. Recently, it's been upcycling toilet roll tubes into pocket journals -- videos up. I just finished a self-portrait that is in an exhibit opening tomorrow night at Shockboxx gallery in Hermosa Beach CA. Three videos of it are up: adding links just now,
What do you do with a junk journal? There is no place to journal or write. Just curious as I think it’s a fantastic idea, but think that it should have some function for someone.
Some pages have written words on them, some have card pockets. The more time that passes, the more evident it is that the junk itself is the journal. Many years ago, when mass-printed cards, labels, advertisements began to circulate and be discarded, or saved in a box, these were known as #scrapbooks , ephemera : fleeting things for special times. Tickets, ribbons, pressed flowers, notes that came on gifts, things that get lost, thrown away with time. Many scrapbooks during tough times were made from cutting up Sears catalogs. Movie magazines provided photos of stars off screen and made it into fan scrapbooks. They get better with time. Junk = scrap , jour = day journal daybook or dia = day diary. OMG I finally understand McLuhan: #themediumisthemessage @krisbigskyknits3259
Plus, some people are better at leaving inspiring space for others. I have a bunch of distressed pages that can be inserts for writing that I may make into signatures for people to use as tgey like in their own junk journals. This journal is my own. It can be continued with more collage. It has numerous other pages undeveloped and separate.
You have inspired me! My personal paper is junk to many others, I'm sure, but with a few photos, ticket stubbs from movies, airlines and events, and cherished packaging, my journal will serve me well in years to come. Thanks for a loving video.
I would rather watch this than all of those curated videos with carefully placed hands and jewellery, and purchased antique fake ephemera….and if I hear one more….‘ you can get this in my Etsy shop’……….🤢🤮
It is nice to see someone actually do a real junk journal!!!!

Please tuck a note in it somewhere so that 100 years from now when someone finds it will know what it is.
Good idea.
Very cool

Junk = scrap ,
jour = day journal daybook or
dia = day diary.

Awful!!!! No cretive abilities demonstrated here....yikes

I disagree. It’s absolutely creative. Remember, this is a real junk journal.
Very creative in my opinion. Gave me some ideas to go on for my own journal. Thanks!
How very judgemental Dianna. Art (as you obviously know being the expert) takes many forms…think Andy Warhol.🤔
