- A common first modification for Miata owners is an after-market exhaust. With good reason! The factory one just doesn’t quite cut it for thrilling sound. Tune in for multiple sound clips as well as my thoughts, both long term and short term, on the Good-Win Racing Super-Q muffler.

A stubby antenna and Meroso expansion tank and power steering pump, an OEM cold air-intake a tune with Versa-tuner and Skunk alpha2 header, Helmholtz mid pipe Super Q muffler $ 3000. Awesome character now. 2006 mx5-NC.
I’ve had the Catted ceramic header, helmholtz Catted midpipe and Super Q with a tune by Joe at Dynotronics for two years and I could not be more satisfied. When you get on it it sounds bad ass. When you lift and cruise it sounds stock and I like that. The quality of the product from Goodwin is outstanding. If you get the ceramic header handle it with clean gloves.. the fingerprints can be problematic on that ceramic after they heat up..
I have the RoadsterSport catted header, Helmoholtz mid, and Super Q catback. It is truly perfect, and also, wife approved. Awesome video of Ghost!
I have the same set up on my NC1. I went with the catted header because I was afraid to fail state inspection with a straight through header. Do you run your Super Q with or without tha baffles?
@@wg5768 No baffles.
I have the OEM Mazdaspeed exhaust on my 07 PRHT and love the sound. I paired this exhaust up with some GWR ceramic headers and GWR mid-pipe. The sound was throaty, but not overbearing. Very minimal drone at highway speeds but very tolerable. Since adding a tune by ECUTek (done by Brian @ Fab9), I love the slight bump in power. The tune put everything together nicely so the intake/headers/mid-pipe/exhaust all work in unison. Also the crackle & pop tune is the icing on the cake. 😉
The very first mod I did on my 2023 RF Club, at about 200 miles, was get the RoadsterSport Super-Q Twin Tip. The stock muffler was horrible. It brought me back to 1986, when a friend bought a Toyota Celica GT-S. The resonator in the Miata wasn't as bad as that Celica, but it was still awful.
I added the Glass-Packed Baffles, too, after finding the included baffles just a touch too loud. I've got about 1000 miles on the exhaust now, and for me, it's perfect! Terrific tone at idle and moderate throttle, absolutely no drone or buzzing, and sounds fantastic when you stand on it!
Love ghost! Can’t wait to go on a cruise with you and that Miata again!
Had the SuperQ on my last MX5; loved it. Makes the car sound much more cultured, and dare I say, expensive. Good choice.
Good Miata content with very nice landscape and shooting ! Thank you !
My car is the 2005 RS NC I have a skunk11 header, but still retained the second cat & muffler. I decided there was restriction in the muffler & removed it & cut a flap out of the top between the two frames. I cut the top pipe completely out between those two frames (it is the one that is not inline with the outlets). Then welded the flap back (you need a tig or mig). it lowered the sound octave but did not make it noticeably louder & I am sure it breathes easier. I think the later model mufflers have different internals, So take this into account before cutting your muffler open. A header & a tune transforms these cars for a very moderate price.
Great video, I was looking at this muffler for a while I think I need to give it a go on my NC1 :).
love my Super Q on my 2012 GT.
Like you, I want an improved sound that isn’t necessarily louder. I love the supercar, metallic, sound but hate the booming of race exhausts.
The Goodwin might be what im looking for, so thanks for a helpful video.
Nice vid man! Love it.
This was my first mod, cause I knew I was gonna get a header, and
need this to control the noise.
As I wrote to you on insta, I have the Super Q paired with the BBR header. Love the sound, especially with the roof down. As I’m driving with my son sometimes and it’s still cold out I found it very comfortable with the roof up, just wondering about drone on longer distance drives (I drove the whole of Europe on just the header and it was fine) as the Super Q seems to make the most rumbly noise between 2-3.5K rpm and with the roof up it may become tiresome on long (multiday) roadtrips.
And I feel you for sure on removing the stock. Mine was fine re: bolts, but two of the rubber hangers didn’t want to move. Massaged them for like an hour.
I'd love to hear the bbr header. Is it catless?
Yonaka axle back is what I have on my NC3
I appreciate this video focuses on sound, but what about performance? Results from virtual dyno before and after would be great.
Performance is negligible if only doing the muffler. Probably not enough to measure on a dyno consistently.
Hello “Wife!, How about going for a ride with me?! LOL!
What are RPMS? Is that some measure of velocity? 😆😆 Thanks for the video.
I am from Germany and I have a BBK read muffler and midpipe. Don’t know if it was available in the US too tho
‘thank you ohio rust’
*me, an ohioan getting ready to look for an exhaust for my poor daily driver nc* 😂
wishing you well i am in ohio too.
Why does an exhaust, or almost anything car related need to be 'wife approved' ?
OK but it's over £1,000!!!
How would you say the drone is on the highway and low speed cruising around town? Great video, thanks! I've got the GWR RoadsterSport II and I love the tone but I'm fed up with the highway drone.
The drone is not bad at all on highway! At super low speeds around town it can sneak in, but only really low in the rev band
Every exhaust I see on here is either to loud or not loud enough is there a good in-between out there?don't want 2 spend a ton of money and not be able to hear the difference or be super annoyed with a drone sound
You prefer this stock over the racing beat same style exhaust system?
Good review and great to hear there's little drone. Off topic but what oil goes in your gearbox? Mine is notchy at lower rpms.
I’ll be making a video on it soon! Coming up on needing another flush. I use Ford Motorcraft (can’t remember the product number) but just look up “Miata Unicorn Tears Ford Transmission Oil”. They call it unicorn tears because it’s magical. It made mine much smoother. I know there’s another option that handles higher heat better, like tracking in high climates, but the Ford stuff is really good for about anything.
@@FlywheelFilms Australia is a great place to live and it would be SO much better if those unicorn tears were sold here...if you could include info on the alternative it would be great.
I'm using Castrol Syntrans 75-85 and 8oz of Best Oil Powertrain Lube. High rpm changes are fine now - but low rpm requires a conscious effort. Thanks, I look fwd to your next one and yes I'm keen on the SuperQ!
I like the deck lid lip. Where can I get one?
Check out my other video on it, it’s the Carbon Miata PRHT Trunk Spoiler
Are those stock wheels? Any spacers on them?
i am not a fan of loud exhaust but i am all for getting more air flow. is there one quiet enough to let more out but still be about as quiet as the stock one?
You will probably want something like a Good-Win catted header and the Super-Q. Maybe even Helmholtz midpipe if you can manage all 3. It will retain your cats but improve flow especially with the header. And it will sound excellent while not being much louder than stock.
@@FlywheelFilms awesome thanks!
Wait are you from Ohio? That location looks great for a drive!
I bought the car in Ohio but I’m in Colorado!
@@FlywheelFilms That makes much more sense now. XD
Do you run with the baffles in or out of your Super Q muffler?
I keep them out. But I will keep them around in case I go full 3-piece exhaust and need to quiet it down a bit
Wife approved? Wtf lol
Hey wife, should I spend a bunch of money on an exhaust that is a little louder....or....should I take you out to dinner at your favorite restaurant once a week for the next six months? What do you mean...What do you think?
Great exhaust, but my wife left despite me having it. False advertising?
900$ just for the muffler, you guys do not know where to spend your money, this is not a race car after all, it is your weekend car, stop throwing money like that
I have so many counter arguments to this comment… not sure where to begin.
@@FlywheelFilms tell me
A year later and this comment is still stupid.
You say the decibels are not what matters, they are exactly what matters, I need a silencer that is less than 90db to get it on race tracks, I have no idea how loud it is.
