How To: DIY Senegalese TWISTS for BEGINNERS + 10 TIPS | Easy Step-by-Step Guide

- A detailed Step by Step Beginners Guide to DIY Senegalese twists + 10 Tips I wish I knew before trying to do Senegalese twists on my own curly hair for the very first time. These twists are medium sized and low tension (not super tight to the scalp) and I completed the twists in 5 hours total. I’d say these twists came out pretty good being that I’m a total beginner myself. I absolutely LOVE Senegalese twists as a protective style and can’t wait to try it out with different colors.

You can really tell that you put so much effort in to producing this video☺️🙌🏾
Your so sweet! Thank you ♥️💕💜💚
OMG your natural hair is goals!😍
Thank you for your kind words! 💜 I work pretty hard to keep it healthy 😊
Yes your hair is gorgeous!
This is what I was thinking!!
This video SAVED my Senegalese twists. I was inspired by other tutorials, but only this one led to success!!
love it! I'm thinking about trying them out during this quarantine. Not sure I can pull it off on my own though.
There is no harm in trying, this is probably the best time ♥️
@@LotusFlowerLife My hood beauty supply closed before I could get the hair.
@@Theluxuriousmissionary Try online! I just stocked up, the link for the hair I used is the description box. It should be still available on amazon. If it isn't I'm sure you can still find some hair online

I've also learned from a lot of other videos is that you have to twist the hair as you twist. If that makes sense. Like twist the strand and then pull it over. They say it makes it last longer and it makes it stronger. But this was a great tutorial
Literally the best How-To video I've seen! Your instructions and point of view of the camera for visual demonstration is clear and easy to follow. Thank you for this!
Thank you! I'm so happy I was able to help ❤️
This has got to be the BEST hair tutorial I’ve ever watched! Thank you so much for the tips
Your so kind, Thank you! I am glad I was able to help ❤️❤️
I am halfway finished with doing passion twists for the first time and I am realizing this would have been a great option! Seems a bit more simple and I think the hair will definitely blend better! Thanks for the tips hopefully I'll be trying this soon :D
Thanks so much for this!! I was able to braid my hair during quarantine for the first time :) took me a long time and hopefully ill get faster if I do it again!
Love this editing! I'll try your method.
Very explanatory, and it came out beautiful. Thank you for this video!
Your welcome and thank you for sharing the love ❤️!
This is one of the best directed and edited hair tutorials I have seen on youtube!
Thank you so much, 😭💖 I appreciate the love!

Your hair looks so cute and natural ! trying this today I hope it looks this good
Thank you for this video because I was struggling to keep it tight to my roots! Definitely helped!
Happy to help love!
This really helped. I did mine and they came out great. I wish I would've listened to your tip about using the rubber bands instead of dipping the ends. They got really skinny for half of the braid. Now I'm about to take them down and redo the whole thing over and use rubber bands.
That's so great to hear! You are so patient being willing to do it all over again 🙂. Good luck and I hope it comes out perfect the second time around 👌🏽💜
Wow it’s my first time seeing a Senegalese twists, and i’m amazed! so beautiful! 🙌
They really are such a beautiful style 💖
Just retwisted my hair using your tutorial. It came out nice!!! Thank you!!!
You're welcome!!!
Can I make an appointment for you to do my hair? 😍 this 💁🏽♀️ hairstyle needs expert hands 😆
I'm definitely still a beginner but I could try 😄
You have such gorgeous hair without adding the hair. I have not had to twist my senegalese twists thus far as I purchased them pre-twisted. I am going to try your method though. You made it look so effortless. Thank you.
Thank you! Good Luck ❤️
reaally helpful love!

Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it 😄
Good tips here for people not new as well! I usually try and hammer everything out in one night over 12-15 hours, but didn't think about doing a twist out on wash night and brushing it out to get closer to the texture of kenakalon. Thanks for the helpful advice
Happy to help!
I love! They look so natural!
Thank You!!
Love it I want to try it! Ty
i absolutely love your voice!!💕
I love it. Wanna try it

Thank you for joining the Lotus fam beautiful ❤️🙆🏽♀️! I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad I was able to help 😊.
Can you please show how you shoot your videos !!! Love love!
so helpful thankyouuu
My pleasure 🥰
I have tried my own it took me 7 hrs the first time I’m about to do them next week on Tuesday
Tried it twice. Love the look and feeling it gives. I can actually feel the air on my scalp. There are some downsides though. Royal pain in the ass to sleep in. I usually get the urge to comb my hair but i can't and I can no more run my finger though my scalp. I usually take them out around day 4 because I can't stand wearing them forever. It's very fun once in a while though.
Hi new subbie can you please share info on how to maintain these twist..like how to keep them neat after sleeping...
Gorgeous😍
Thank you! 💖💖
I tried this once about 3 years ago...came out horrible looking. But I just bought some hair today and thinking about trying it again. This is like the 12th video I’ve watched lol so I’m gonna try it! If it doesn’t work, back to Marley braids! Lol
To me twists look much so more feminine than braids. Braids look cooler and twists elegant
NEW SUBSCRIBER, your so pretty omg
Thank you beautiful one ❤️
My ends need help! I'm so glad I found your video! Lol I tried last night but it didn't go well):
Try try again 🙆🏽♀️, it was so difficult for me when I first tried it. It was hours of frustration before I got the hang of it 🤦🏽♀️. You got this!
I’m half Senegalese!!✌🏽🇸🇳💕
i tried big ones and they kept slipping out and i think i need to use more edge control to blend my hair with it because my hair keeps slipping out of the twists
Applying more edge control does give it something to grip to but make sure your rolling the kanekalon hair to the root of your own hair securely enough before twisting both sides and then use a small clip to hold the hair in place after twisting it twice. That helped me so much when I was first getting the hang of it. I got really frustrated with how many times it kept slipping out so I hope this helps!
Mine too. Can't seem to get this right. 🤔
Your hair texture looks just like my daughters. So beautiful.
Thank you 💕🤗
I’ve tried senegalés twists before and I like them. They don’t stay as well as Marley twists. I might try these again because market hair is expensive
I cannot braid to save my life lol nor have I ever tried twisting my hair with added hair. But I definitely need a protective style so I hope I can get this down on my own 🙏🏾
Hey, great tutorial! I'm about to try doing this (I've never twisted nor had my hair in braids)
My question is: i usually wash my hair once a week, can go up to 10 days no washing. You said in the video that you can keep these up to 4 weeks. Do you wash your hair in that time?
A great tip i
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the tips❤ they looks great! where did you get your rack to separate the hair ??
Thank you! I got the clothes drying rack from ikea 💜💜
Great video! Any tips for doing the back of your head?
Thank you! No tips really just practice practice practice and eventually you'll get it. It took me like 8 hours to get it right just from experimenting 💁🏽♀️
Just did Senegalese twists for the first time yesterday. This tutorial helped soo much. I can’t seem to keep my ends from unraveling though 😂 any tips?
I'm so happy I was able to help! I used rubber bands at the end of each twist to keep it from unraveling 😊
Thank you. This was the best. Any suggestions on the type of hair? This will be my first time trying braids
I recommend kanekalon hair, the exact hair I used is in the description box ❤
Lotus Flower Life Thank you. I eventually noticed the links at the bottom. I ordered that brand of hair. Looking forward to wearing braids for the first time. What color did you use?
My little sister is mixed and has 3C hair. As she’s gotten older she’s explored a lot of different hair styles and loves these twists, but struggles to do them herself so I’m learning as much as possible to be able to do her hair for her. I’ve done lots of men’s twists without adding in any hair so I think I have the basics but still want to absorb as much knowledge as possible. Doing these for her this week for her Valentines Date. Wish me luck!
You are so sweet for doing these for her! You got this and good luck💜
I just found this video and it’s so helpful thank you!! I love the way you edit and I love your channel 🥰
Thank you so much!!
0:03 Ur so gorgeous. Your beauty is astounding 🧡🧡😍😍
Hey what’s the title of your intro song pleaseeee 🙂
This is so helpful! I’m gonna try this weekend. How do you shower with the twists? Do you shower with them and get them wet or wear a shower cap?
Thank you! I just wear a shower cap, helps them last longer :)
Thank you so much for this diy. I’m about to try this for the first time thanks to Rona🤦🏾♀️💕💕
Your welcome! Good luck love ❤️
Sis this is amazing!! What song did you use btw?❤️
Thank you and I can't remember the name 🤦🏽♀️
I was searching the comments for the name of the song too, dammit i really need to know
I've been trying it for a while, but it keeps unravelling and slipping out at the scalp. I don't know how to keep it from happening and I've been doing everything every video directs me to do. I wonder if it's because my hair isn't long enough?
If I had your length I wouldn’t even buy braiding hair 😭
You're so sweet! I tried it without the extensions and it was a big FAIL lol. I truly love the thickness the extra hair adds, I couldn't get it to be that thick if I tried 🤷🏽❤️.
@@LotusFlowerLife my mom has told me the same thing. I'm more mixed than she is, so my hair is thicker. I never understood why she never put her hair in twists--it's because her hair can't hold them. My hair holds them amazingly, so that's nice, haha
How many sections/squares did you have and how many bags of hair did you buy??
How many packet you used ? I love the videos ❤️
Thank you! I used about 3 1/2 pack of hair ❤️
I really want to do this style for a vacation coming up so I don’t have to worry about styling my hair everyday. I’ve never put weave in my hair and I don’t think I can do this on my own. Question is do I still soak and separate the hair for the hair stylist?
Hi! This style is perfect for vacation 😊. If you have a sensitive scalp I would highly recommend soaking the hair first to get the chemicals off of the hair and let it dry overnight or blowdry it and then bring the hair to your stylist. ❤️
I saw lots of reviewers complaining about hair color bleeding and getting on their pillows etc. Does the Cider Wash keep the hair from bleeding color? Did you experience any color bleeding? I swim a lot and love to wear white so I'm concerned this hair extension brand/hair might not be a fit?
How did you grow your hair so long it’s gorgeous😍
Thank you! I make sure to put health first when it comes to my hair ❤️
How was the take down? I had a bad experience with passion twists where they were gorgeous, but I came out of it with so many micro knots and tangled hair!
The take down for me was actually pretty good. I had little to no tangling. I only at the nape of my neck because that area rubs against clothes all day creating alot of friction. But I think because of how I slept on the twists and maintained them it helped prevent micro knots.
Love + Subscribed!
How long did this take you?
Welcome to the fam! It took me about 8 hours
Any tips on how to do the back of the head? I’m fine with the front but hand coordination gets tricky in the back😅
Honestly, it just took a lot practice and finessing to figure out the most comfortable hand position for me when twisting the back.
Beautiful hair, lmao😍
How did you wash them?
Sounds hella bad but I don't wash them 😊. I just spray my scalp and hair with rose water seal with oil and call it a day. It helps preserve the twists for longer.
Where you get that hooded dryer thing for your deep conditioning?
Amazon
I believe I bought that from amazon ❤️
any tips for getting the back?
Lots and LOTS of practice! Once you get the motion down doing the back will be much easier. Its really about finding the most comfortable hand positioning for you while you are doing it.
Have you since this tried the hot water sealing method?
YES actually! I did it with my knotless braids tho, not Senegalese twists. They worked great for the braids not so much for the twists 🤔
❤❤❤
Harmoni curls vibes
this is so helpful, my hair is as thin and soft as yours and everytime i try twists my hair sticks out of the braids even with edge control, but i guess i was doing some things wrong
Do you think this would work for 3a hair?
The method I use does tend to slip out my hair over time. I would suggest the rubber band method for your curl pattern ❤️
How do you tie it up at night?
I use two head wraps one on the top and one to tie around the bottom
You look like a mix of Kelly Rowland and Ciara 😍
I've never gotten that before, your so sweet ^_^ thank you!
I loved your video it was very detailed and helpful but im french and it was a lil too fast for me, could you leave tips longer the next time? Bc I was stopping the video every two second.
I will do senegalese braids anyway😊
Tu peux modifier la vitesse de la vidéo dans les paramètres ;)
Do you think this style will be good for vacation? Will it last through swimming if I take good care of it?
You might want to try out the rubber band method if your going to swim with it. I don't think the twists would be able to stay being submerged in water like that. Hope this helps!
@@LotusFlowerLife thanks so much!! Your video production is on point
@@JasmineRIvy Thank you so much!
