- Well, talk about a team effort!
I'm eternally indebted to Sam Popkin and Perry Stanley for making this cover exceed my wildest expectations. Sam's brilliant sitar playing and Perry's note-perfect Framus playing elevated this to an entirely new level.
And what a magical song! I don't think even John knew the mood he was setting when he wrote this; frankly, the outtake from Anthology 2 totally lacks the energy and spirit of the album version. Maybe a capo is all ya need (besides love).
Also yes, I decided to play the Hofner. I don't think sonically it makes too much of a difference. And it was time to bring back the Hofner!

This is so inspiring Michael. I just got my PSA results back and I am now 5 years and 4 months cancer free. I hear you, Perry, and Sam and am energized to practice more and more and more. This truly is a song that I believe the whole world knows. You guys hit it on the head! I used to play it in Emaj and I still remember someone suggesting, "Hey Doug?, try a capo on the second fret and play it like this, I did and it was magic. First song I ever used a capo on and this was over 30 years ago. Thank you for bringing me back to 1966. First album the guys didn't even put their name on. EVERYONE KNEW. Again, Thanks guys. One of my all time favorite recordings by anyone -- it never gets old - this is why I believe Rubber Soul was the great quantum leap forward for The Beatles - because of this song Norwegian Wood and the recording of it by The Beatles - thank you for posting this, excellent job!

I've always thought this song was a bit odd, but this is absolutely fabulous. Nice job guys.

For years, I always thought that buzzy droning sound was a sitar, it's actually 12-string acoustic. Interesting also that sitars are usually tuned to C# or D, and this is in E major - which meant George would have had to had tuned a whole step up. Then again, the sitar he used on this session was a cheap tourist model he found at 'India Crafts' on Oxford Street, London. Still sounded amazing though.

Oh my god this is going to be the perfect accompaniment for my vocal cover. Thank you so much for putting such an incredible amount of effort into such a short song but in my opinion one of the best and most tongue in cheek Beatles songs ever written!

THE ULTIMATE COLLABORATION!!! Thank you Perry and Sam for Collaborating with Michael and creating this wonderful rendition. I was expecting for Mike to use his Rickenbacker for this one. But the Hofner sounds great! Kinda upset that Mike isn't gonna do more Revolver stuff but this collab makes up for it. Awesome video keep it up! 😎👍

IMO, this is one of the best arrangements of the Beatles. Sparse, and yet, deceptively simple. Everything works like a clockwork and it's quite difficult to actually play it like they did. Yours is the closest I heard, spot on! Congrats!
