Like or comment on this if you have any interest in seeing my take on the 2002 vs 2016 versions of this game. Im sure this exists already and my version will probably be way worse, but im honestly looking for any excuse at this point, and ill try and make you laugh during it. Thanks for watching!
Ratchet and clank OG is a classic, has some of the best level soundtracks in the series. IMO it hold up as a platformer, but not as a shooter, but that's ok! Because its mostly a platformer anyway. Also you can strafe shoot using your jet pack in hover mode, its a nice work around but not a full substitute for later games. I actually think the lock strafe camera mode is when ratchet and clank was fully modernized control wise. so only 2 years later
Completely agree, Kerwan absolutely slaps and one of my absolute favourites. Same with the controls, one of the things I call out as well in the UYA review, great minds hey
My first Ratchet was Going Commando. I rented it one day, not realizing it was a sequel, since there was no "2", just a colon. I also didn't realize the little bolt symbol was meant to be an "and", and just figured "Ratchet Clank" was the title and full name of the character :P
Ratchet and Clank going Commando was the first RAC game I played. I think my older cousin is the one who actually got me into RAC. Countless hours I've put into the ratchet & clank series as well as Jak and daxter series. There's just something about these games that I have a genuine love for and I still play them to this day.
I was never really a gamer. I first bought a PS3 in 2007 because I wanted a Blue Ray player and I figured I might as well get a game console as part of the deal. I grabbed 2 games I knew I would love... driving (Gran Turismo) and a golf game. I also grabbed one random game... Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction. It wound up being the only game I really loved. I then went back and brought the original three games and played those, and bought A Crack in Time when that came out. I've played some other games since, but 15 years later... I mostly still play old Ratchet and Clank on my PS3 when I want to veg out on a lazy Sunday.
That’s a great story, thanks for sharing Bill! I know we got the first family ps2 because of the DVD player so I can relate haha. I think games can often be amazing, but I think ratchet always sticks out to me because it is always fun. Not games aren’t, but I think there is something just simple and timeless with going back to these franchises. I haven’t been back to the original since the mid 2000’s and super glad I’m diving back in now. Thanks for watching mate!
Thats such a cool take to hear, I honestly thought it was cool having some friction, it makes sense for this game when you think about it. Its an adventure where you drop everything you're doing and risk your life so if you're not feeling it, makes sense to want to bail like ratchet. But I think for following games Insomniac recasting and reworking the relationship worked really well as they become more of a team
@@HowGoodGames I'm half & half right now. I still collect physical copies of games I really love but like majority of my games are digital because I gameshare w/ 2 friends. 1 on PS4 & 1 on PS5. So I build my digital collection so we have games to play & stuff.
Ratchet 1, going commando, up your arsenal, and deadlocked were my introduction to the series on the ps2. The music is amazing, and I wish ratchet had stuck more to the world building and exploration/platforming that the first had
The original 2002 Ratchet and Clank is definitely a game that I would love to see get ported to PC just like Jak and Daxter did a couple weeks ago by the OpenGOAL Team. It is playable via PCSX2 and RPCS3 but there is no native PC port, and that just makes me sad that it's taking so long for such a classic title.
I'm planning on playing through the whole series this summer, so I've been playing the first game on PC through emulators. It is a bit buggy but for a 20 year old game that I had no opinion of previously, it has been amazing. Great video and good luck with your channel's growth!
That’s awesome to hear you’re loving it mate! If you decide to check out my other ratchet videos as you get to those games, would love to hear how you’re finding them all for the first time! That’s so cool
I was hoping you'd get to these games after Jak! Any chance of covering the Sly Cooper series as well? To answer your question: I've been a die hard fan since the very first installment! I hope you'll cover all the other games, as well!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for taking the time to keep coming back LeifUnni! Yeah definitely, I've only ever played the first Sly Cooper, so now I've got a PS3 I think ill do them after I finish the R&C Trilogy and im very keen to play all these games so it should be a fun couple of weeks!
It surprises me how well the original holds up, it's still one of my top favourites, not for the nostalgia of it being my first R&C game, but because the characters, music, world, visuals and level design are so much fun. I never really struggled using all the different weapons, as they allowed you to be relatively creative in how you use them in certain situations, which is more than the rest of the series can say as for later games you mainly just pick the strongest gun you have and shoot it until you're empty, there's not much strategy involved. The lack of strafing without the Thruster-Pack can be annoying, but when I learned how to do side/backflips efficiently it works as a dodge and as a way of lining up your shots, it's not strafing but it's straf...ish. At this point I'm just waiting for a remake from Bluepoint that has the same original voice recordings, but overhauls everything else and modernises the game with QoL improvements and new content.
If we got a shadow of the colossus/demons soul level remake for Ratchet and Clank then put a fork in me, im done. Also, I love 'not strafing but straf...ish' wish I had have thought of something like that to be able to have used in this video!! great way to put it. Great to see you back as well!
The first time I ever played a Ratchet and Clank game was actually Secret Agent Clank on the PSP, I didn't play the original until I was in high school which was many years later.
Wow that’s wild, the first one you play normally holds a soft spot. Did you like the original more or less then secret agent clank, I never actually played that one
@@HowGoodGames I still enjoy Secret Agent Clank I bought the PS2 version last year, But I do think R&C1 is overall a better game, the levels are more interesting to explore and the weapons are more fun to use. funnily enough my least favorite parts in Agent Clank are when you play as Ratchet but in R&C I didn’t really care for the Clank segments.
Ratchet & Clank 20th year Anniversary is November 4, 2022. I hope Insomniac games does something special to commemorate 20 Full years of Ratchet and Clank.
I really hope so, but I would honestly rather them do nothing instead of doing something underwhelming like a tweet or releasing some stickers or something. Fingers crossed!
I’m so glad I discovered this Channel because suddenly this has become one of my favorite channels, really love the content and hope to see more of your work, Good Luck
After listening to a review of the PS5 game rift apart I went back and am playing through all the game in release order. I really enjoyed the first game. After realizing I needed to get to the get the hologuise in NG+ to get the discount in 3 I played it again after Going Commando and it still is really fun. I will miss the platforming elements of the first game.
The discount has got to be one of the most impressive long running jokes in any series. In the original game after winning the hover board race for gadgetron, ratchet asks if he can get a discount but the president said it’s only available to employees that have been here for 2 years. Then in 2 they go to a different galaxy with megatron, and when they go back in 3 gadgetron will say ‘our records show you have been an employee for two years, please enjoy this discount’. Crazy that throw away line actually turned out to be true!
Really enjoyed this one, a good look back at an old classic! I still love this game like i did on Christmas 2004, but without the QoL improvements of the sequels I agree it’s hard to go back. The remake fixed a lot of that, but it’s a cash grab movie tie-in so it was destined to fumble R&C1’s enduring anti-capitalist story. To me that is just unforgivable lol. So we’re left choosing between mediocre remake or the dated original
Is it to much to ask for a Spyro/crash style remaster trilogy for 20th anniversary? Sony owns blue point now, I hear they’re no stranger to remaking the PlayStation classics… Man I just know I’m going to get my heart broken over this, but it is THE dream
Completely unrelated question for you. I thought I’d give TR Legend a go after anniversary but controls feel way more janky. Is that just my settings and it doesn’t normally feel like that or is it something you have to just learn to get used too?
@@HowGoodGames Happy to help! First can I ask if you are on PC with a gamepad? If you’re on console then what you get is what you get, but from memory it should be identical. There are fixes for PC but it depends on which gamepad you have
PC with a gamepad is what I tried and it felt a lot more rigid compared to anniversary. I tried mouse and keyboard for a bit there but I think I found the control scheme there even wackier. Im just using an xbox elite controller as the game pad but have other PS3 and PS4 controllers I could use as well
My first RAC was Up your arsenal but always had a ps2 demo disc which included the first Ratchet & Clank, and then I bought Rac 1 & 2 for ps2 around 11 years ago , so yeah I still playing RAC games and one of my favourite franchise's, good video & support from Spain 🔥❤
I actually prefer the non strafing controls in RaC2, I know it's better for combat but it just doesn't feel like a RaC game to me like that. Great video again!
Thanks again Skipper! I’m about to finish RaC2 for the next video, and strafing definitely does feel a bit clunky but it’s nice to have it as an option at least. And they build on it well like Jak 2 -> Jak 3 imo.
Because it isn't really a Ratchet & Clank game, yeah it is today, but the first Game was a platformer with Shooter elements and after it, it is the complete opposite.
It was my first game ever played and that is why this series have special place in my heart. The original Ratchet 1 may be a little outdated but it works for me. It's always good to come back to it for positive vibes and yeah, I'm old too I guess. Hope my children will love this game too ;)
All we can ever hope for is our children will love the games we loved as kids. But then I think… I never really got into the games my dad loved so I’m prepping for karma to screw me on this one
I remember when I was 5 years old I tried swimming in the deep side of the pool without a life jacket and almost drowned but managed to grab on to the ladder just in time. In that moment in my mind, it reminded me of the blackwater city swimming level since I played it around that time
oh my god, that's some legit trauma right there. Just hope you also weren't a fan of sonic growing up because if that underwater timer music was playing in your head then as well it would have just been too much. Thanks for taking the time to watch and share your fears brother!
@@HowGoodGames Yep.. I also noticed the characters in the older games seem to be more badass than the ones in the newer games. Or is it just me? But then again it makes sense why the older games were rated teen and the newer ones are rated E
It’s why I love that there is such a simple yet vast difference between the words ‘favourite’ and ‘best’ because I think many people would agree with you. Thanks for watching and commenting Alex! Appreciate it bro 👊
Contrary to most people opinions, I also think this is still my favourite in the series. A lot of things are simply better in this game that in the later games. I wish a proper remake would be released, tuning a few things and updating the graphics. But mostly keeping the original game intact.
ratchet and clank was my first ofc. but having rpcs3 and being able to play these games back in 4k is amazing. i cannot im really considering getting a ps5 to play the new one.
I wish they were avaible on ps4/ps5 as well though, I think not still having a PS3 set up is probably the main thing that stops people from going back. man if you enjoy the series, Rift Apart is truely a special game
4:50 Thank you, this meme fits so well. Saying the Reboot is the same game, is like saying yeah Need For Speed and Forza Motorsport are the same games. Because they look similar.
I'm playing Ratchet and Clank 1 for the first time. It's the only game I've played. But i did buy every other game in the series to play afterwards. Ngl, i think the game holds up pretty well. I was genuinely impressed with how much stuff they managed to cram into this game. And apparently, I've only seen the half of it as it the sequels are supposedly even better. That's actually insane to me.
Nice! I think this one has aged the worst out of all of them, but I also don’t think it is the worst game in the series by any stretch, I’d still argue it’s one of the best. Glad you went back to it and enjoyed it!
It is in all of them! But absolutely in this one, it is a grind that I couldn't do on this playthrough but I remember it well. Do you remember it stands for Rip Ya A New One (the A is silent I guess). I didn't until I replayed it lol
every now and then I play it. I like that I easily retained my skills at the game. I also did a run to see how far I could go with only my wrench; so far I only purchased the blaster (blargian snaggle beast fight) and walloper (bomb bots on Gaspar).
Ratchet and clank 2002 is my first game I got in the series for Christmas that year, alongside sly cooper!, and I feel in love with the game. I have 100% every game including the spin offs. Great video!
Thanks BigBearMonte! You never think of the original as a multiplayer game but I first played it at a friends house with us taking turns, huuuuuuge effort 100% all games and spin-offs, massive effort!
My first R&C game was the remake. I played it in 2020. After that I played every single one of them and I can safely say that now I am a huge R&C fan. My favorites are Up Your Arsenal, Tools of Destruction, Into the Nexus and Rift Apart.
Lesgooooo that’s the way to do it! Stoked you discovered the series and have been going through the time capsule of R&C games! Side note, did you also play insomniacs Spider-Man and if yes, was it before or after discovering ratchet and clank?
Honestly, the performance of the PS3 remaster is so poor in some places, you might as well emulate it. Then you can use a good controller (like the SN30 Pro+, which I use to play even the PS3 titles with.)
Yeah I didn’t even think of it, but the performance was pretty trash. I’ve been unsure about emulating games for my videos, don’t want to do anything that’s seen as dodge so I’ve just been playing everything natively through console and pc so far for my videos
Oh my fucking... 20 YEARS OLD???? Fuck me I'm old... I remember my pops bringing home a copy of the game and jsut saying "i think this looks fun"... and from then on just HOOKED!!! My fondest memory is Going Commando coming out and him rushing to get a copy for my brother and I to play with him. One night he was playing and was stuck on the Snivelak boss fight... woke me and little brother up (on a school night!) to beat it for him... owned and beat every single release since then
That's awesome dude, thanks for commenting! I have similar memories with my dad, but randomly with LOTR Return of the King lol. Glad im not the only one who took '20 years old' like a punch to the genitals.
This used to be the main game id paly when I was little, I recently went through a retro phase and bought a PS2 with some classic games. it feels super nostalgic playing it but the emotions aren't the same when Playing as an adult compared to playing as a kid. plus you can really tell the difference on how far we've come in game graphics, I used to play this game on a CRT TV that had so much static you could hear it, now it's on a 4k projector so you can clearly see the textures and shapes of the creatures in the game. overall, Ratchet and clank will always remain a legendary game
That’s where the appeal comes from new games comes for me, because yes the old games are amazing, but that feeling you talk about I still got from playing rift apart. It’s going to be great to see what else we get next
My first game was the Reboot, since I discovered the series in Feb. 21. It was a great and new (I never played a shooter before) experience and oh boy that game really got me. So I searched some about the series and were really looking for those other games. Now I can say that I really enjoyed the games, literally all of those I played (1,2,3,Gladiator, ToD, QFB and ACiT(all physical copies for each console)). Still searching for the rest, but some are quite expensive these days. I had more fun than I expected and still playing the games I already played though more than once.
I just picked up the remastered version for the playstation 3 and I'm going through the remastered trilogy you're trilogy. I started out with the 1st ratchet Clinton game years ago for the playstation 2. I have always loved ratchet and clank and don't think I'll ever stop playing.
I still have my PS2 and the original R&C disc -- it's super fun. Just weird that the quick select ring doesn't pause the action and that the check points are mostly back at the beginning!
Yeah I got super thrown off going back and having the weapon wheel not pause combat, its a subtle change but makes a big difference when you use it so much. Actually discourages you from mixing up weapons during combat outside of your quickselect
The number of times I said to myself ‘trick boss. It’s gotta be some sort of trick boss’ when trying to get through this was insane. I think in the ps2 version for some reason it’s even harder than the remake too.
Haha mate, I still can’t believe people are leaving comments! Least I can do is reply and say thanks. Plus I don’t have lots of people I can talk games with in real life so always cool to see what people have to say!
Thanks mate, hit 900 this morning so really hoping I can get to 1k soon! Started end of Jan so would have been great to do it by the end of this month but going to fall a bit short I think
My first rc game was going commando i liked that a lot but rc 3 (best ratchet and clank game) made me hardcore ratchet and clank fan. Then i played ratchet gladiator and this. I fucking love this game and the hole series. So many memories with these two guys and this was an awsome some video👊
Thanks for the compliment Korpi, glad you enjoyed it! It’s like splitting hairs picking your favourite from these games hey. Now I’ve played the first 4 again, I think I’ve finished every one and been like ‘yep, that one is definitely my favourite’ only to have the answer change the next week haha
Thank you, really appreciate that! I've got lots more in that sort of style if you enjoyed it, hopefully you find some more you like and stick around!! Thanks again!!
Ah yea, ratchet and clank, can never get tired if that one, loved the first 3 even if going commando was a tad harder then it should've been, like the 2 or 3 I played from ps3 era, the movie/remake game was fun but felt a bit lacking from the og, and gonna blame the copy I had on ps2 but size matters was in best terms "playable" was a chore to make any progress in that one
My first R&C game was Tools Of Destruction, 3 years ago. I fell in love with it and decided to try the rest of the series. Well, except for Rift Apart - I'm not gonna sell my kidney for a game console. And... the first game is still quite good. It still looks decent on PS2, it has a really cool soundtrack (Novalis and Gemlik themes are my jam), the gameplay is funny. But there are some problems for me. 1) The weapon and gadget management. You want to unleash hell on your enemies, have some fun, but you only have 8 slots, and some of them will be occupied by gadgets. Why didn't the devs make an automatic activation of gadgets when you approach to a place where you need to use them, or, at least, use a D-pad for their activation? 2) Skill points. If you're a completionist, the game will definitely give you a hard time. Comparing it to the rest of the original trilogy, this game is just ruthless. I can't even count how many hours I wasted while trying to earn some of these points - like "Wizard", for example. 3) The final boss. Drek is really tough. I guess that's why the devs made the Protopet much easier in the second game. 4) Ratchet's voice. Mikey Kelley's forced raspiness is just not my cup of tea. Thank you, James Arnold Taylor, for replacing him.
Awesome comment! I agree with most, especially the weapon management, even though this is the only game that doesn’t encourage weapon use through leveling, it does still feel like a puzzle almost with different weapons being better equipped to handle different areas, and sticking with the same handful of guns the whole game might make it overly difficult. For me personally though, I found Drek easier overall then the protopet but I know I’m in the minority there. While Drek was longer with worse checkpointing, it was easier to manage the fight itself I found then the protopet that kept throwing other enemies in addition to its own attacks at you. Also James Arnold Taylor is the true mvp, thanks so much for the comment! Hope to see you back in another video!
I think the weapon scaling in the first game is probably the best it's been in the series. You can complete the final level using early game weapons, they're still viable all the way to the end. Maybe not the easiest to use but save for ammo there's not really anything stopping you from defeating Drek using the blaster, suck cannon, and bomb glove. While in later games the early weapons, even fully leveled up, are more or less useless by the mid game. Unless you like shooting the same target for five minutes. Hyperbole I know, but ya get what I mean. Also if you don't like a weapon you're not forced into using it by an XP system. If you keep on using fully leveled weapons you're basically wasting XP and making it harder on yourself. Buy a weapon in the first game and don't like it? Nothing encouraging you to use a weapon you don't like. Buy weapon and you're done, you don't have to stress about leveling anything. Also save for the Taunter I can't really think of any bad weapons in this game, I mean there's nothing like the Hoverbomb Launcher, Infector, or Meteor Gun in here. As for Project Spartacus, here's hoping it's not messed up emulation or streaming the games to your system and they get a PC release like Sony has been doing with some of their games lately.
Great points! Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Yeah insomniac said in some of the dev diaries on UA-cam that they made a conscious decision in going commando to scale the early stage weapons in a way where it become not viable to use them in the late game. It was all to encourage players to continue buying and experimenting with new weapons, which does kind of suck if you really enjoyed how the blaster felt for example. I think the more modern day versions have balanced it better by making weapons in the later game either more powerful with less ammo or function better for a different purpose, but ratchet and clank definitely had a good balance the whole way through. Now everything for Spartacus has been announced, it looks like ps3 games will be streamed in eligible countries still, and other generation games can be downloaded (not sure about pc though, fingers crossed)
@@HowGoodGames Ah, so I can't partake in Spartacus then. Even if I could I would still prefer versions I could play without an internet connection, if not for myself than for future fans getting into the franchise with later games. Those servers and services aren't forever.
I've covered that one as well, I reckon that's tied for my personal favourite (which I just posted another video about yesterday). Thanks for watching mate and commenting mate, properly means a lot to me. Hope you enjoyed the video!
If it helps at all, you can use a ps4 and ps5 controller on a ps3. Don't have to jailbreak it or anything, the ps3 is really compatible with other gamepads. Been replaying some games with a ps4 controller and it feels so nice.
Holy shit, I’m about to make videos on the sly Cooper trilogy and that could be a deadset lifesaver. Definitely going to try it out with those and thank you for watching and commenting!
Regardless of anything else you say now, in my mind I’m imagining a one month old with controller in hand complaining to their parents about how the clank sections ruin the pacing of the game. That’s dope
Honestly it isn't crazy hard to get your hands on them now since you can still get them off the PS3 digital store. All you need is to either buy a used PS3 if you don't have one or emulation is always a good option, but these are all still made fun to play now
Haha definitely an option. These games are taxing to emulate on older computers though cause of the way they were designed, but could definitely be an easier option then getting a whole new console
Or on ps now (for anyone lucky enough to get that in the first place) like this deadset has to be one of the most requested collections on the PlayStation right? And insomniac is a first party studio now, so you’d think they would have some extra reason to have their games still be playable on modern consoles. Absolutely baffling
Man, I recently played Ratchet and Clank on a emulator on my PC in sweet, sweet QHD resolution. For some reason... I loved the older games of the series than the newer games. Especially Ratchet's personality in the first game. Nowadays I feel he is too much of a... goody two shoes? Well, I have yet to play Rifted Apart, but the reboot was fun but the story was... lacking in my opinion. I particularly wished Ratchet wasn't as much of a errand boy and was less goofy? Nevertheless, playing the older games on emulators will let me forever enjoy and love them. On a sidenote, the first game is so easy to me now, seems like my muscle memory never forgotten how to play the game and what weapons were best for the scenarios I found myself in the game. On a side, sidenote, this game really was the first game... the sequels that came after it were definite improvements over what they had. Like the weapon leveling (originally you had to use titanium bolts to upgrade your weapons in the 1st in a secret, special weapon room you obtain access to after beating the game and going on new game plus), health leveling, and armor upgrading! Although, some games have weapons that are clearly better than others, even with new game plus upgrades.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave such a great comment! I really enjoyed rift apart and I think Ratchet as a character really shines in RA with one of the best ratchet stories imo. Also totally agree, the only thing that holds this game back a step is how improved all the sequels became with those points you mention and I cover off those in some of my other ratchet videos too. The more sequels you play the more jarring it is to go to the original, but to its credit it is still really accessible to jump in to it today
@@HowGoodGames Indeed! It's a shame I never gotten to play the games after the PS2. However, I am getting to play them on emulators though! Besides the newer games, which I plan to play on my brother's PS5 (I played the reboot, not the games that released on the PS3 though)! Welp, any game gotta start somewhere! At least the 1st game knew its weaknesses. I feel like Deadlocked did the best when it came to the weapons though, since each weapon in that game had a purpose. Even the RYNO!
Another one that never mentioned that this game is a platformer, not a shooter like all games after it. With strafing, it would just play like a shooter, not a platformer. the Hovering you get later is just 1 move you can do, not the Go-To Move it became from Ratchet 2 onwards.
the music alone makes worth to try it but I don't think this game has aged very good, specially with the remake out there making it look primitive, however imo is absolutely worth to play now specially to introduce someone new to videogames, it has a very friendly difficulty curve to teach the basics of moving in a 3d game but still don't let you turn your brain off completely like the remake where you just strafe jump your way out with tons of explosions, it may look simple today because is not that flashy or pretencious games are nowdays, but it was and still is a very good game that may not be very ambicious but everything it try it does almost perfectly, for me always was special but only now that I'm learning about videogames development I can see not only how good still is but how clever it was designed compared with the sequels, there are lots of things to learn here, like hey, from software, why don't you play this and learn how to make a 3d camera that don't get you killed?
Yeah, the thing I always worry about with older game largely do come down to the controls, the feel and how easy it is to 'pick up and play'. So many older games were way more punishing in regards to being taught important story or gameplay elements via the game manual, or even just info that was common knowledge on the playground but never came with us when we all graduated. I think Ratchet is so well designed and self contained, to your point, it makes it very easy to still recommend to new commers. I think there are definitely way better Ratchet and Clank games now when you take away the nostalgia, but hot damn, what a game still. Thanks for such a great comment mate, appreciate you taking the time!!
Shoot for me the ps3 controller is the best, but you should know, you can use a DS4 or a dual sense on ps3, I'm sure they'd work on the ratchet and clank collection, but dont work on every game, gran turismo5 and 6 are two that arent compatible. Lol that rising water level held me up as a kid, had to beat going commando before I had enough of a hang of it to beat it. Nowadays I can experiment with the speedrun movement tech, some of the basic helipad movements and I got so far ahead I only even touched the water when it makes you go down, and even then it was much less time in the water.
I adjusted eventually as you do, but man it felt weird to start with. I just learnt that the ps3 can do that, I’m going to tackle sly Cooper next so going to test it out with that! Thanks for watching and commenting bro!
Well because you asked so nicely, sure thing 😊 I’m planning to do ratchet gladiator/deadlocked for the next video, but then I think it’s time for sly to shine
I highly recommend plugging a spare ps5 controller into your ps3, the ps3 controller is borderline unusable and all my analogue sticks are stiff af, but don’t use your main ps5 controller as it will drain the battery life
Yeah great shout, I haven't tried it myself for this game, but I connected it and tried to use it for Sly Cooper. Worked in the PS3 menu but not in the actual game unfortunately. Might try a PS4 controller though, see if I have any more luck.
Music is absolute fire! Is the long answer no because you remember it being better and have it was worse when you went back, or just never thought it was amazing to begin with? You’re the first no so would love to hear why for you
alternative 3 to get the game: get an emulator!! ii'm going through a phase where i'm playing through all the games o couldn't get! and it's so easy after set up
Yeah, plus you can upscale the resolution to make your games look better than they ever could on console. I honestly just wasn’t sure the rules around emulating to put on UA-cam, it’s all probably fine but wanted to play it safe since I’m just starting off
@@HowGoodGames i mean, i guess it's still piracy, but it's a 20 Y.O game no longer in production, so i think it might be healthy for the brand to keep it available! i know Nintendo is SUUUPER strict about this kind of stuff tho :P
Games like these are rarely ever too late to play, but this, and all other PS2 Ratchet games, haven't aged that well in my opinion. Gameplay-wise they're probably still great, but graphics-wise they're rusty. They are PS2 games though, so it's understandable
Personally i agree with you. I played every single Ratchet&Clank no regrets. But i will admit now that i'm older, playing especially the ps2 games again made me realize that sometimes it's better to let the past go. I don't want to let nostalgia blind me. I personally really enjoyed the ps4 R&C and Rift Apart.
I agree it's not a remake, more of a reimagining, but I think there are definitely a lot of similarities. Even just look at the first few planets, they are designed and executed almost identically to the first game. It's not until you get to metropolis for the first time that things really start to go down a different path
@@GeneralChrisGaming I've got it on my Vita which, if you want to talk about covered in dust, jeesh. I honestly didn't know you could do PS2 emulation through a phone, I have GBA and DS, but ill have to look into it!
@@HowGoodGames aetherxs2 is a new ps2 emulator for mobile although mobile did had a ps2 emulator it was so bad and so greedy we basically didn't have one. Also the performance difference between the two is quite amazing tbh. One is playable the other one you can just throw in the bin. You need a pretty strong phone to play aetherxs2 but my s9 handles it pretty well
I mean sure that would work, but is being able to upscale to 4K worth not being able to cover your hands in dust while you dig up a borderline ancient ps3? Yeah emulation is probably the way to go
Like or comment on this if you have any interest in seeing my take on the 2002 vs 2016 versions of this game. Im sure this exists already and my version will probably be way worse, but im honestly looking for any excuse at this point, and ill try and make you laugh during it. Thanks for watching!
TGBS already did it and it might be his best video, but I’d still like to see your take on it.
My first ratchet and Clank game was the first one
Yeah , the gameplay holds it back but in terms of "youre on a universal adventure" vibe it nailed it the best out of any game
I think Ratchet as a character is done the best in the original. Great video
My 1st R&C game was Ratchet & Clank (2002) I'm 24 & I've been a fan since Day 1. I own every single R&C game.
Lesgooo, I miss collecting physical games, most of the stuff I have now is digital
The branching in paths in every world will always be *chefs kiss*
The original 2002 Ratchet and Clank is definitely a game that I would love to see get ported to PC just like Jak and Daxter did a couple weeks ago by the OpenGOAL Team. It is playable via PCSX2 and RPCS3 but there is no native PC port, and that just makes me sad that it's taking so long for such a classic title.
I hope it does get that same treatment by someone as well, it more than deserves it!
Absolutely
@@HowGoodGames Awesome! You're gonna have a blast with them. Looking forward tl it!
One word for the Original trilogy, (Legendary)
From one fan to another, this was an entertaining nugget to watch, well done bud.
Thanks very much! Got many more dumb videos like this, love for you to check them out if you enjoyed this one!
Yesss! I was waiting for this one from the beginning
Haha hope it lived up to the hype then! Thanks for watching again bro!
Thanks so much Mohammed, that makes me super happy to hear! Definitely much more to come!
I’m really looking forward to that and I can’t wait to watch more of your content👍
Sony owns blue point now, I hear they’re no stranger to remaking the PlayStation classics…
Man I just know I’m going to get my heart broken over this, but it is THE dream
@@HowGoodGames honestly I’m setting the bar real low; don’t let ratchet fall into the hands of Microsoft like Crash and Spyro and I’ll be happy
Whoa from Spain, that's unreal! Thanks for the support mate! oh boy, a PS2 demo disc how good, those were the days weren't they
I actually prefer the non strafing controls in RaC2, I know it's better for combat but it just doesn't feel like a RaC game to me like that.
True. They need to find something they will love for real. Everyone needs to have their own choice
Well said. Probably won’t stop me leaving copies of rift apart all over the house at least though
Found this channel today. Congrats on 100 subscribers btw!
Thank you very much, am super excited to have hit 100! Hope you enjoy some of the other videos on the channel too!
I've played this game too but jak is my favorite all time
I remember when I was 5 years old I tried swimming in the deep side of the pool without a life jacket and almost drowned but managed to grab on to the ladder just in time.
The OG Ratchet and Clank remains as my all time favourite game, no other game compares to me
It’s why I love that there is such a simple yet vast difference between the words ‘favourite’ and ‘best’ because I think many people would agree with you.
I started with going commando and it immediately became my favorite game series!
My first Ratchet & Clank game was or rather is the 2016 reimagining. In 2024, i'm still paying it, 3rd playthrough. It's just big dumb fun.
ratchet and clank was my first ofc. but having rpcs3 and being able to play these games back in 4k is amazing. i cannot im really considering getting a ps5 to play the new one.
I wish they were avaible on ps4/ps5 as well though, I think not still having a PS3 set up is probably the main thing that stops people from going back. man if you enjoy the series, Rift Apart is truely a special game
@@HowGoodGames okay so major update lmao the new rift apart is coming top pc!!! still playing the og's on rpcs3

My first R&C was this one out of curiosity in '20. Was more difficult than I expected so I only picked it up again in 2021 and really enjoyed it!
Nice! I think this one has aged the worst out of all of them, but I also don’t think it is the worst game in the series by any stretch, I’d still argue it’s one of the best. Glad you went back to it and enjoyed it!
No, it is even BETTER
Happy 20th Anniversary to Ratchet & Clank!
GOOD! VERY GOOD!
I remember powering through play throughs to buy the RYNO. (Or was that 2?) Either way. GOOD.
That’s insane, I would imagine the final level with all the flying enemies would give you a lot of grief. Good luck!
@@HowGoodGames Good vibes man.
@@karkacxx agreed, Sunset Overdrive is highly underated and I hope one day can get brought to playstation
That’s awesome to hear! Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, hope you’re able to track down the rest of the games for cheap!
@@HowGoodGames Thank you, appreciate it . It is a good video, hope your channel grows well.
I just picked up the remastered version for the playstation 3 and I'm going through the remastered trilogy you're trilogy. I started out with the 1st ratchet Clinton game years ago for the playstation 2. I have always loved ratchet and clank and don't think I'll ever stop playing.
Great call, I really enjoy the remasters. Also side note, Ratchet's full name is now officially Ratchet Clinton, thanks for your contribution
my first ratchet Game? This one on the PS2 back in 2002.
Ironically the third game was my first and by a sleepover and a friend bringing it over
That is exactly how I discovered the series as well! Sleepover at a friends house. I feel like this is information Insomniac needs to know
This is one of the most entertaining Ratchet & Clank analysis I've ever seen. Fantastic.
Thank you so much, there is amazing stuff out there so that means a lot you saying that!
Great to play after the Jak trilogy! 👍
It feels like it’s almost a requirement
1:58 In the reboot of 2016, this is exactly the level I rage quitted at cuz I kept dying like a second or less before the end of the tunnel
The number of times I said to myself ‘trick boss. It’s gotta be some sort of trick boss’ when trying to get through this was insane. I think in the ps2 version for some reason it’s even harder than the remake too.
@@HowGoodGames Oof. Well it’s fun that you reply to basically every comment here. I love seeing that

Thank you, really appreciate that! I've got lots more in that sort of style if you enjoyed it, hopefully you find some more you like and stick around!! Thanks again!!
I just wish that this video hadn’t ended so soon!!
Have you had a chance to try rift apart? It definitely feels for me at least where it all came together
The 2end game was my first ever game loved it then still do
I've covered that one as well, I reckon that's tied for my personal favourite (which I just posted another video about yesterday). Thanks for watching mate and commenting mate, properly means a lot to me. Hope you enjoyed the video!

Honestly it isn't crazy hard to get your hands on them now since you can still get them off the PS3 digital store. All you need is to either buy a used PS3 if you don't have one or emulation is always a good option, but these are all still made fun to play now
I feel like the ryno salesman saying but one word…emulation🤫
Haha definitely an option. These games are taxing to emulate on older computers though cause of the way they were designed, but could definitely be an easier option then getting a whole new console
my first Ratchet and Clank was the first one
Ah a traditionalist, I dig it
It’s really been that long since this game came out
I know, absolutely disgusting
I can't fathom why they don't just sell the HD-remaster-digital version that came out for PS3, in the PS4 and PS5 store?
Or on ps now (for anyone lucky enough to get that in the first place) like this deadset has to be one of the most requested collections on the PlayStation right? And insomniac is a first party studio now, so you’d think they would have some extra reason to have their games still be playable on modern consoles. Absolutely baffling
Going commando, everyone’s first ratchet game of course
Oh yeah, everyone's first game was the second one, duh
IT IS BETTER!!! RAC1, Going Commando, UYA.all on my PS2...LOVE LOVE LOVE...BEST EVER!!!!
R&C3 was my first
Lesgooooo. Got the R&C3 vid dropping next week, hopefully you enjoyed it enough to sub and come back to check it out!
Obligatory comment to help the channel
Thank you for the support BlooJay, hope you're enjoying the vids!
my first rnc was the reboot, but I prefer the original.
nice video
Thanks for taking your time out to give it a watch, really appreciate it and really glad you enjoyed it!
My first r&c game was the OG
From the beginning, respect
@@HowGoodGames thanks got all of them from 2002 to rift apart
But I like jak and daxter more than r&c
my first was Size Matters
That's wild... did the console games feel off to you since you started with size matters??
Let's goo its a non issue
Could you do sly copper next?
Well because you asked so nicely, sure thing 😊 I’m planning to do ratchet gladiator/deadlocked for the next video, but then I think it’s time for sly to shine
Thanks so much, really appreciate🙏
RPS3, This is the way.
They need to remaster the trilogy as well as the ps3 games to the ps5 for it 20th anniversary.
I could not agree more. Thanks for watching!
If youre on pc you can play it in like 30min
wtf i farted and then you smelled me i feel certain feels i cannot explain right now
I highly recommend plugging a spare ps5 controller into your ps3, the ps3 controller is borderline unusable and all my analogue sticks are stiff af, but don’t use your main ps5 controller as it will drain the battery life
Yeah great shout, I haven't tried it myself for this game, but I connected it and tried to use it for Sly Cooper. Worked in the PS3 menu but not in the actual game unfortunately. Might try a PS4 controller though, see if I have any more luck.
Short answer no, but the music is
Music is absolute fire! Is the long answer no because you remember it being better and have it was worse when you went back, or just never thought it was amazing to begin with? You’re the first no so would love to hear why for you
alternative 3 to get the game:
get an emulator!! ii'm going through a phase where i'm playing through all the games o couldn't get! and it's so easy after set up
Yeah, plus you can upscale the resolution to make your games look better than they ever could on console.
@@ML1800 Plus its not like Sony have really made it easily accessible today anyway
Games like these are rarely ever too late to play, but this, and all other PS2 Ratchet games, haven't aged that well in my opinion. Gameplay-wise they're probably still great, but graphics-wise they're rusty. They are PS2 games though, so it's understandable
They could definitely benefit from a bit of a face lift. Here’s hoping we got something new this year for the 20th anniversary!
@@HowGoodGames Man, what I wouldn't give for another Ratchet & Clank game. I love Rift Apart, so here's hoping they'd do even better
Personally i agree with you. I played every single Ratchet&Clank no regrets. But i will admit now that i'm older, playing especially the ps2 games again made me realize that sometimes it's better to let the past go. I don't want to let nostalgia blind me. I personally really enjoyed the ps4 R&C and Rift Apart.
it isn't good as i remember, it got even better
Brooooooo you had me going for a second!
ratchet and clank tools of destruction
I remember being so excited for that one, I remember very little so keen to go back and try it again! Thanks for watching !
2016 version isnt a remake, its its own game entirely with no simularitys to the original other than character names and basic likeness
I agree it's not a remake, more of a reimagining, but I think there are definitely a lot of similarities. Even just look at the first few planets, they are designed and executed almost identically to the first game. It's not until you get to metropolis for the first time that things really start to go down a different path
Me: why dust off a ps2 when i can play ps2 games on my phone with a ps5 controller x)
There’s just something about a solid 2cm of dust covering a ps2 that is just *chefs kiss* Thanks for watching!
@@HowGoodGames i perfer the convenience or having my phone anywhere tbh. Playing ratchet and clank and the train is nice
You need a pretty strong phone to play aetherxs2 but my s9 handles it pretty well
@@GeneralChrisGaming Thanks for the info mate, Ill check it out!
Yes
Bish bash bosh, thanks for the comment JDawgz

556 hours? Those are rookie numbers, try my 3,000 hours on EU4 lol
A true master at work, that’s 125 full days of play. I’m sure it’s all flown by haha
@@HowGoodGames honestly time is fluid rn, covid has been hell on my perception of time
Just get a ps2 emulator you can play it on your pc with a physical disc or a rip
I mean sure that would work, but is being able to upscale to 4K worth not being able to cover your hands in dust while you dig up a borderline ancient ps3?
Yeah emulation is probably the way to go
500 hours in 10+ years , yeea im not even going to watch the video
