  • North River Lake in Algonquin Park is a place I had never visited. The weather was forecast to be beautiful, and most of my favourite places to backcountry camp were booked. Then, I saw North River Lake on the Algonquin Park map and noticed availability. Years ago, on a trip to Cedar Lake, I stopped to take a peek at the access and was dissuaded from checking it out further. Now, I was up for the challenge Come visit North River and North River Lake with me. I peruse a bunch of campsites, spot a strange animal, eat some delicious food, and enjoy lots of beautiful scenery.

Beautiful weather, your choice of campsite, looks like a nice time. By the way, you’re a brave soul for going in that cold water. Thanks for sharing, be well my friend.

Lol the water was not cold at all. I just always find it a shock to my system at first. I was actually in there for quite a while and went back in a few times throughout the day. Great to hear from you. Hope you are well.

Another great video, always nice when you find your own private lake! Btw that bear might have mistaken your stick for a rifle.

I love your videos, Christina, and I’m happy to hear that you’ll be presenting at the Outdoor Adventure Show in February. A friend and I are planning to go. I’m 71 and my daughter took me on a long-promised canoe trip in Algonquin in August. We did a route from one of Kevin Callan’s books, Kingscote Lake to Scorch Lake. Three long portages but Scorch Lake was gorgeous. It was the most amazing experience of my entire life!

This will be my seventh year presenting at the Toronto show. I have done the trip from kingscote to scorch as well. You will not find it on my UA-cam, as it’s an older trip but It is on my blog. I took a kayak on those portages. lol. Good times. I think it’s awesome that your daughter took you. I hope I get to meet you. I generally announce on my Facebook page where I’m going to be each day and what I’m going to be wearing so people are able to find me easily. Usually, when I’m not presenting, I am at the H2O booth. Thanks so much for commenting. Cheers!

I'm surprised to hear with all your trips and you've never come across a bear. Looking forward to when you share the story. It'll be hard to beat the Lynx video, that was a good one. Just make sure that plastic tie on the spray doesn't prevent you from using it quickly, if ever needed you don't want to fumble around for something to cut the plastic. Tie a small piece of string to the orange safety and attach it to the small loop in the finger handle.

lol. Thanks so much for commenting and for checking out the video. I obviously took the zip tie off as soon as I finished making the video. 🤦🏻‍♀️ cheers!

That river looked like fun, and only a few beaver dams. For an access lake, I was surprised at how empty it was!

In early September I was in that area... North River. It's an awesome area but with low water. I've seen about a dozen bears in the woods. I bring bear spray but have never felt the need to use it. Even when a mother and her 2 cubs were within 40 feet of me. Never felt threatened. Love the video

Thanks. I thought so too. Someone commented earlier on what a horrible campsite it was. I didn’t know why but asked. lol

My Sunday morning treat watching this video and neglecting my own tenting activities. Very pretty campsites. I like lots of shade because my Nordic roots don't allow me to tolerate heat very well. I got criticized for deciding not to bring my bear spray anymore, I've never had a use for it. I see lots of bears in town and in the bush but never at my campsite. They only visit when I'm away. I think they know when I'm there. I feel like I've been accepted as a perennial presence, the only human in the area.

Wow that paddle at the beginning is my favourite kind of paddling. I just love small winding creeks. As always I think you got the best campsite with all the perfect amenities. Can’t wait to see the meal all cooked up. Thanks so much❤️

Beautiful river awesome weather lovely lake and campsite , Can't blame you having bear spray one never knows if they will have black bear company , I think they'd run off though and avoid us , still they are curious. We are all so blessed to have such beautiful areas to go like this in Canada .

Well the one I saw in Quebec didn’t run off but I also didn’t feel extremely scared of it. I felt bad actually for trying to shoo it. Thanks so much. Cheers

Oh I wouldn't feel bad to shoo it off, I feel its good for them to be afraid of us , Nice to see them though . will you have a video of you showing the bear, I remember the Lynx you saw , your blessed for that, That is one animal I have not seen.

You are on a special list to see the videos before they’re released in February after I present on the trip at the spring shows. I haven’t made them yet though. lol. It’s been busy for me this season. Lots going on.
I don’t know your experience with bears, but I felt bad shoeing it away. It was super cute and all it was doing was walking around in the forest that it knows and lives in and I was yelling at it to leave. I don’t think that’s very nice and I felt bad about it. He did not threaten me or act hostile in any way and I was in his home. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Just me.
