Watching their interviews makes me appreciate the improvised banter and eccentricities of their characters on the show and how naturally they embody their characters... I watched a different interview where they discussed that that basically was the idea, they didn't want them to put on big piratey accents and stuff but just wanted to let them be themselves as the characters which I think is great and makes them so real
This is hands down the best show I have seen in decades. I laughed, I cried... oh boy did I cry. This is the kind of show I wish was around when I was a young man figuring things out. Truly amazing work.
The first one cracks me up, tons of pirates wore eye patches. Had nothing to do with having one eye, old ships were really dark below deck. And they didn’t want candles burning in their wooden ship. So they wore an eye patch on one eye to preserve their night vision in at least one eye. You could go below deck and still see. Was especially useful when attacking other ships.
This couple is so beautiful. Their love story is so precious and heart breaking. I just want them to be happy. After so many boring couples in uncreative shows getting a happy end, I just want one for a great show with characters I love. Just once.

You wore it on deck over one eye, and switched it to the other eye when you went below deck so you didn't have to wait for your eyes to adjust to adjust to the darkness. Lighting was generally very poor below deck, with only a few oil lanterns to provide a little illumination. The eyepatch trick saved time and prevented accidents.
HBO has really done this show DIRTY. Absolutely NO promotion. Had no clue it even existed until Twitter went crazy near the end. And i have HBO MAX and I’m on there fairly frequently. But all i ever saw them push was that Victorian New York version of downton abbey. And now they’re refusing to renew it for a 2nd season?? After they left it on a major cliffhanger? They wouldn’t have done such things were it straight & everyone knows it. 🙄

If one eye is covered with a patch, that eye will not be acclimated to the brightness on deck, so when they get bellow deck (for example during a raid) they could really quickly be able to see by just removing the eye patch, giving them an advantage when looting and fighting. Great conversation. I adored JoJo Rabbit. Taika’s bold take on Hitler as a ‘goofball sidekick’ was surprisingly hilarious. Fantastic end scene and credits with David Bowie singing Heroes in German which he actually wrote in Berlin. I watched it on HBO 😂
