I picked up one a couple weeks ago, and really like it. The truck is over sprung. I swapped in some rc4wd 90 mm ultimate scale shocks front and rear. Relocated the upper shock mounting by using some stock TF2 shock mounts I had laying around for the front, and some generic shock keys in the rear. Totally changed how the truck performs. It has a bit more flex and the side hilling stability is greatly improved.
This does make me want one... Remember when you could get an Axial vehicle, with noo slipper clutch at all?? I still have a handful of those slipper-less spur gear mounts...
I made only four performance mods to my Atlas. I swapped the motor and esc out for a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800kv ESC combo. I switched the receiver over to run it on my Flysky FS-GT5. I installed a set of RC4WD King coil over shocks and a set of Hobbysoul aluminum wheels and mud slinger tires. I absolutely love the way it crawls. It's a spectacular trail rig.
There are screws inside each end of both driveshafts connecting the spline ends to the ball joint. I recommend pulling those screws and adding a little thread lock. Mine spun off under full throttle. Rapid forward and reverse action makes it worse.
Sweet looking truck for $250. I saw this advertised and looked it up. Your video popped right up. I agree it's a decent capable truck and more so with a few mods/upgrades. Good nonbiased review, thank you. 👍
At first glance, this looked like the FTX Outback Texan/ RGT Crusher, but they both had lay down suspension on the back. Its a good looking truck, with great packaging, and its good to see FMS look at the specs, and taking the stuff off thats not needed (like turn signals) to keep the price down. 👍🏻 I also believe that the controller is a rebranded Flysky controller?! 👍🏻
Awesome looking rig and extremely promising for a beginner, with a low price to make it even better!!! I'm thinking of getting one for my 9-year old son, James!
Grease all the gears and beginner mode helps for slow crawling also just put loose springs on the shocks and it's great I'm getting white metal rims from injora but otherwise great truck with great torque
Great review. I got a 1/18 scale Atlas three axle a month or so back when there was a sale on them. Got busy it sat for about three weeks. Finally got it out of the awesome carrying case. Money well spent. So I am really interested in this 1/10 the scale version. I'm a power wagon fan and I think it looks great. This is one I don't think needs any patina. I wondered about the chrome stacks when it went over. I think I would strip the chrome off the shields and respray them with aluminum. That way they can get all scratched up and be easy to touch up. Most of the real salt brine tankers I drove the shine would come off and they would flat aluminum anyway. Cool review!
The Power Wagon is a great truck to model a RC crawler after but I feel like it's being overdone as of late. The cabs have been available for quite a while on the cheap from J concepts if not numerous other brands and the off-shore RTR market is filling up with them too. Yes, I'm talking about RGT! While I love the style and have a few rigs featuring it I feel as though its the patent infringement free cop out. As for FMS going 10th scale I am intrigued! I haven't had the best of luck in the durability department from them but I very much appreciate a new budget contender with unique features in the flooded 10th scale crawler market. That's probably why I'm a bit of a RGT fanboy. I appreciate your stellar thorough review. Excellent technical reviews of these budget products aren't very common.
I have mine sitting on the shelf and the only things I did not like where the suspension and tires. For looks the bumpers look odd too. Can’t argue with a price so low.
I got my Mashigan and I love it but mostly because how it looks, the chassis, drive line, and Suspension is not the best. A 1080esc does it wonders. Add oil to the shocks for sure. They are dry.
Brilliant review, just curiois, do you have a part number for the Panhard pls? My buddy has this truck but weirdly didn't come with the panhard and doesn't even show it in the manual...?
Hey Sir. I have a question. Do you think any of these companies that make these off road 4 wheeler trucks will ever make a 4 wheel steer? Now that would be cool. I really do like the one that you just got. It's awesome.
I bought one of these on the father's day deal and it was shipped with a broken upper panhard mount. FMS doesn't make a replacement part for it so they have to manufacture one in China and ship it from there. Meanwhile I'm having someone design and 3d print some for me. So far not impressed with FMS haha
That’s good feedback though. I’ll suggest it to them about having more support for their products. Fms has some new management here in the states and they are actively looking for ways to improve.
I got my atlas 2 days ago. I finally have the battries..but now when I switch it on. The reciever just flashes slow red and the remote red light stays on. But it does not work
First thing I would check is the esc. Make sure it’s set up for your type of battery. Lipo or nihm. Next would be the battery level. If it’s lipo and. It fully charged it wouldn’t allow the truck to run to protect the battery.
@@MrCveedub I guess custom is the only way 😅😂 wished FMS at least put softer shocks on these rigs.. but thats the beauty of the hobby, we get to mess around with it 😂
@@darioson99Indeed! I have a set of shocks in the mail with some shock mounts and I hope they work. I'm the last person you want fabricating parts so they're my only hope lol
Hhhhmmm.......an Axial Basecamp and TRX 4 Sport are both less than $400.00, and they both will outclass this truck out of the box. I won't even speak of the $500.00 trucks offered by both companies, they are just too feature packed to even begin to compare. The Element Enduro Gatekeeper @ $269.00, $20.00 more and You have a better truck as well. RGT is another brand that makes good trucks for about the same price point in a lot of cases. Please do not confuse the Atlas with the RGT Crusher because they are two very different animals, with the Crusher definitely being the better of the two trucks. Customer Support and parts availability for either of these companies alone crushes any efforts on behalf of FMS. This is not to say this the Atlas is piece of junk because I would not say that. However, FMS customer service is the worst that I have personally ever dealt with. $250 sounds great on paper and in thought, but in the real world, the value of the truck will become evident going head-to-head with companies with a "proven" track record. I love buying cheaper RC's and then hopping them up too, but I Am a realist. If You're going to buy a cheap truck, there are definitely better alternatives. Great video and I did "like" it! ;). In reality, everything is subjective, expensive RC's can and do have problems, and We all see things from differing perspectives. As always, buy what You like because that's all that matters in the end. When I purchase any RC, I purchase from the perspective of, "can I have fun with it (???) and sales, sales, sales; everybody has them!"
I dont disagree with you one bit. Ive not had any of the RGT brand rigs so i cant relate to that, but I have since had my hands on some of the low end element rigs and would choose that over this hands down. This rig was a step in the right direction for FMS, but far from right, personally I would take any element rig even before the base camp. The SCX10 has changed so little in its decade + of existing.
Now, You've definitely said something that I agree with. People tend to sleep on Element Enduro's and that is a bad mistake. Definitely cheaper, BUT just as good! RGT makes some great vehicles. I just could not believe the price tag that they placed on the GateKeeper. I have the Axial Early Ford Bronco and the ONLY reason why is because I got well below MSRP @ $299.00. Otherwise, I would NOT own it. RGT RC's are typically noisier than most RC's, but that is because they almost always use metal gearing and ball bearings throughout their trucks. The lights that they install typically sucks, but their trucks are sound and pose a threat to Traxxas and Axial as well. If You do ever decide to try RGT, be VERY mindful of the exaggerate prices attached to them. About $350 tops (and after being satisfied with the spec sheet.) The Toyota FJ Cruiser and Crusher are beasts in their own right. I do believe that RGT is a budget RC that You'll enjoy. Articulation and great steering right out the box. A little weight down low and a servo is about it (metal wheels and brass rings.) And of course, You go over it just like You would FMS before initial use. I think its time to join Your channel now.@@RCeveryday
Oh, another bargain buster when it's on sale......Redcat Racing Gen 8. I Am not a big fan of RR, but I so cannot deny the Gen 8. Definitely another sleeper! A good tire and wheel package and it's game on, and continually upgrade as You see fit.
I have been a fan of the redcats, since the gen 8. I had a new gen 9 for a bit, I really dont do that much serious crawling anymore, more focussed on the scale stuff. I just sold my vanquish phoenix last weekend at a swap meet. But I see what your saying, for the price that gen 8 was good. That vanquish rig was awesome, but I wasnt that into it. Seemed like an expensive money pit and I could take an element sendero out and have the same amount of fun with a lot of lunch money in my pocket.
If FMS would make a 1/10 6x6, they would sell like crazy.
Absolutely! I would definitely scoop one up!
I would even buy a rear add on axle kit to convert this truck into 6x6
For sure! 💯
@hornetsnestmedia I have both TRX 4, and TRX 6 but i always want another 1/10 6x6 of another brand.
@@r8d4tube Not sure if your only into performance or if your into scaling too, but im eyeing up the Boom Racing 6x6.
