@@Tubuxis This is most likely the answer, I've visited the backend of zoos before when I was younger. They have a larger warehouse like feeding/living and medic area with bigger pools behind those facades, same as dolphin ones. (But those for dolphins are way too small.) In confined spaces, I'd say seals deals with it better than dolphins, dolphins are too smart and gets depressed if they don't have enough physical & psychological stimulations just like humans. (I wouldn't support confining animals in small areas but I think these seals are more like domesticated animals already, like dogs and cats.)

I feel the same way. We should pay more respect to the animals, and give them as close to naturel conditions, and fullfil their needs.
There's a possibility that there's an entrance to a larger area that they can come and go from, and this is just their viewing area

That's just the indoor viewing area, they have underwater bits and probably another more private dry area to go to.
there is a much bigger part that is not visible to the guests
