Looks very slick Sir! Love the video. The soldered RAM is a bit of a showstopper for me. Running a T480 with 64GB RAM right now and with over 100 chrome tabs open, I doubt 8GM is going to run smooth.
mindboggling that thinkpad would even think about having soldered memory. By the way, is it possible for hobbyists to replace soldered memory? Of course it would be complex, but is it doable?
Ofcourse. You can install maximum that motherboard supports. Just that there shouldn't be Bios lock to support only 8gb Ram. Edit - ua-cam.com/video/dTi4QyJ_GLw/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared Someone did in MacBook.
It takes some skill to do that level of soldering. I would love to do this. I haven't heard of anyone doing it to a T490s, but I would be interested in seeing it done.
@@HaisteComputerRepair I just saw a video where someone upgraded processor of Nvidia GPU. Will post that video here. Edit- There you go Sir. ua-cam.com/video/aC0CI7pTptU/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
@@HaisteComputerRepair definitely would remove one of the biggest objections to the newer thinkpads, if the ram is at least theoretically upgradeable. Still a faff, but better than being stuck with 8gig. depending on the costs, it might make it very worth it to buy a low spec device and then resolder it to high heaven. Afaik, the P series is now the only thinkpad with upgradeable memory. Not exactly portable though :D
The port on the back actually doubles as a Micro SD Card reader and Nano Sim Card, but it will depend on which version you get if you get one or both supported.
Bought one of these just yesterday. T490/s are one of the best value and quality laptops on the used market!
I am definitely a fan of the design.

The soldered RAM does take the wind out of the sails doesn't it
I'm looking for a t480 myself. I need one with an Italian keyboard and they are a bit more expensive than normal qwerty keyboards.
@@mynameisnobody5944 eBay or Aliexpress are cheaper options. Probably looking at third party keyboards, but they aren't too bad from my experience.
i have this

No SD card slot and soldered 8Gb ram is a bit dissapointing for a Thinkpad

@HaisteComputerRepair oh, that's interesting. Only ThinkPad would "think " outside the box in this way. Thanks for the info !!
