rooted nooks are incredible. i still use my nook simple touch from 2012 as my primary ereader. if you manager your own local epub library instead of using a centralized store/platform like amazon kindle, rooted nooks are incredibly usable and versatile.
it is worth noting, if you plan to use a nook w/ barne and noble's store, anything from before 2013 loses support after June of this year. But if you're buying ebooks you can just get them directly from the publisher or author for the same price (or often cheaper), so i see little reason to buy into a single platform w/ DRM.
i can second this i have nook simple touch and its rooted and i got it for free cuz they stopped working in the uk :D
better yet: get a 7th gen kindle paperwhite for $20 and jailbreak it with KUAL, then use KOreader as your default reader.
Not advocating for Kindles but they support epub/pdfs now
I have a 200$ BOOX I've used for 2.5 years
James is like my dad. He makes me happy for a few minutes and then disappears for months 🥶🔥
Broooo 😂
💀💀
it s like buying some new toy then ignores you
lmao
Broo, he is ur dad, the dad u have in ur home is ur mom’s husband and not ur dad☠️
My mind and heart says Thinkpad, Sony and Nook but my budget says typewriter, dumb phone and paper
Ironically a working typewriter actually costs more than a used thinkpad. My t530 was 35$ and a working typewriter starts at 100~$
@@ocelotmadness6287 The other day I saw a basic electronic typewriter for less than 40€. Although I'm typing this in a 35€ thinkpad sl510, so you're right
If you really use typewriter, dump phone and paper, then you are smart; endif
@@ocelotmadness6287 no way u got a t530 for 35 bucks, its like 200 in australia
Mine just says esp32, 2.8 inch screen, hall effect sensor, arduino kit but my budget says 1 cent resistor or nothing
Thinkpad's are amazing. I once dropped a T420 on the floor and it hit a corner. The laptop took no damage. The floor however actually had a small dent.
T420 my beloved

It's funny how everyone is trying to major in CS now, it's the reason the market is so saturated and there are 0 jobs out there.
@@YeetYeetYe ye you are one of them
@@daesk Nah, graduated a long time ago and have several years of experience.
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ! the content you create is unique.
OMG JAMES IS PUTTING HUMOR INTO HIS VIDEOS 😮
every video you make is always at the right time for where i am in life it’s starting to get weird…. but thank you so much for the very helpful video james !!
I am not a computer science student nor looking for an everyday carry - this is one of my favorite videos I have seen recently. Thanks for the entertainment
as someone who constantly struggles with focusing on my studies and work, i learned so much from your videos! thank you for motivating me and many people who share the same problem. much appreciated!
ive been a longtime viewer and i just happen to be going into first year CS in the fall, great video and great edc!
gl!
im tearing up... the cinematography and story-telling is truly soul-touching here..
Bro, I just wanna say, I discovered this channel and you make some very relatable content. Love the videos man! Keep doing what you are doing!

Can you send the link to the unlisted video? It's not in the video description.

It only drops tmrw if he finishes editing it😂. We all know James, it may drop tmrw or in a month we never know
Best video I've ever seen, Man you are my inspiration.
"budget" but opens with a shot of a $1500 eink monitor
my man always bringing up the best content thx James 😭❤ (started using arch a year ago thanks to you btw)
thanks james! ur the one who got me into tech, thinkpads, and programming. i always thought that kinda stuff was nerdy, but because of you i realized how cool it is! (btw i just won my first hackathon at 14 years old) but yeah cool vid.
14?! bro i started too late its so joever
Guess it's Everyday Carry week lol, good to see you back
I eat babies
I lied sorry
thanks keo 😳
Yoo keo bigg faan❤
the man the myth the legend himself XD
man, james is such a resourceful person for posting this
Wow that cinematic was inspirational
Love this guy's videos so much just seeing his videos makes me happy.
I really like your vib. Sooooo cosy and very inspirating
Absolutely loved this video on creating a productive tech setup for students on a budget! It's so inspiring to see how you can achieve so much with focus and the right tools. Finding a used ThinkPad and installing LineageOS on an older phone are genius hacks! This is definitely a video I'm recommending to all my friends #budgetfriendlytech #studentlife 💪📚💻
I am getting an ideapad most probably but thinkpads are def a vibe. Watching you seems very original and it's always a great day when you post. Best of luck.
any lenovo brands let it not be thinkpad is shit
@@spfingg ok sir it might be shit for you
But it works for me 👍🏼
@@anjneyrai ig he saying abt newer ones
@@anjneyrai those who use thinkpads (i do use x13) are now basically stuck with old models because of the trackpoint/good keyboard (they made it even worse in new generation and comparable to generic laptops) - so not getting used to it might be a good think if you're doing some heavy stuff on it (but otherwise basic t480 will last you for a long time)

Happy to see him post
Love the vid king ❤❤
james videos are my favorite videos
saw your post about this in reddit excited for more
can you share the link to the post please good sir
0:05 bro flopped there to get belly pets but Dad left him hanging. 😆
you should definitely do a video about your reading habits
James your video making skills are getting wilder as time passes 😂😂 noice videos keep it coming.

U remind me of the hard times two years ago , your streams actually helped me a lot
Man I Love your videos.
hope you're doing well man :)
I discovered you recently and I've been studying rewatching your videos.. would love to see a live!!
Great video! Love this video format! Fedora and Linux Mint are also great beginner distros.
Great Video James! You forgot to add the link to the description, but nonetheless, its great! The thinkpad part made me laugh lol 😳
This man is the reason why I like ThinkPads

appreciate the upload dude
Theres this Hp ThinkPad I found online and the version it had was T495. Should I still get it even though its not listed in your recommendation like at the timestamp 0:46 ? The laptop had 16 GB of RAM, a Ryzen 7 Pro Processor, and a storage of 256 SSD. The price was also somewhere 260$, second hand. Should I find for other alternatives or get this? Thank you!
need more of these sorts of videos, Jay.
That cat absolutely loves you
Great video, I wish you all the best
good to see you james!
I watched the video even though I’m not that interested in the topic , i just like seeing you talk ✨
Keep posting 💪
Great Video James, love to see ur another content more. I used Kali Linux dual booted or sometimes using vmware installed on windows surprisingly it's great for me :)
The legend is back🎉
lol nice, the nook looks pretty sweet, thanks for the rec
Love watching ur videos❤
The orange and white cat has the most versitility, but in a pinch, a gray tabby will save you a few bucks.
Yessir OP saving money for his tabby's spendings
I use a Moaan inkPalm ereader, small and eink so it's fire. Curious though how you balance the CS grind and reading fic, I find that when I read fiction I get really addicted and end up just reading all day instead of doing school work etc. Do you only read at certain points in the day or something, and how do u enforce that. Appreciate the help!
bro just said every thing i wanted
Shot in the dark here but, did you buy that single yellow spacebar from somewhere or is it part of another keycap set you have? Been trying to find a nice yellow spacebar that isnt some highlighter yellow
Welcome back Jamess !! btw belated Happy Birthday ✨❤️
thank u!
LMAOoooo what a video, thanks for the upload!
he returned when the world needed him
my man ! !
thanks for the video :)
James is like santa claus. Only comes once a year 🥶🔥
first emotional james video pog
I will enter yks in about 1 month and these will be gold infos for me for my computer engineering that I will plan to. Thank you very much.
I took your advice and bought that Nook Glowlight 4 eReader 6" 32GB BNRV1100. Can't wait to try it out.
I love that Sony Xperia of yours
Hi brother, thank you for sharing this information with us
LETS GOOOO I LOVE WHEN YOU POST 🎉🎉
hope you good james, nice vid
yoo such a good video! thanks james
The nook glow light 4 is not possible to get in the uk, what’s a good alternative?
comedy segment was golden
For linux, do you recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint? For a begginer that doesn’t want to use terminal that much or if at all
2:04 bro gave his 100% for that cinematic shot
😂😂
Hi James! Thank you for the amazing video as always:)
Bro has bought every old Thinkpad ever made
I have a Galaxy watch 3 classic and a Galaxy watch 4.
I mostly use the 4 as a sleep tracker and the G3 classic during the day for the timer function to remind myself to stand up and move around and I have a protective case on it which makes it bulky, which is why I sleep with the G4 but I also like the interface on the G3 better.
They're relatively cheap, as far as smart watches go and with 2 watches and I can swap between them when they charge and can keep the battery between 35-85% or more to extend the battery life
I also have a $30 Casio solar watch if I just want to keep track of time without worrying about battery life or want something that I can shower/swim with or check the time if I wake up in the middle of the night and not fiddle with a smart watch.
Oh, and I have a $100 solar dress watch that I never wear as well.
im a 3rd year cs student who bought a thinkpad for myself for my birthday... thank you for validating my purchase :D
siick hope u enjoy it
I have completed my engineering and now i’m using thinkpad which my company provided, it’s really siickk😌 Also aren’t you planning to start study live anytime soon? 🤔
as soon as i saw the linux laptop i knew you were real, that's how i got through my final year lol
bro uses arch btw
Yeah
With the way this video was titled, I thought you were discussing a budget firearm to carry lmao. That video would go hard
Damn, I wish I had this video when I started studying CS. Quick question: why, especially the eighth-generation ThinkPad, are they better in any sense or just cheaper?
Thanks for the video.
What is your large monitor? I've been looking for something like that for a while
Can't go wrong with a ThinkPad. I had one back when I was finishing up my Bachelor's in Computer Science.
Where is this unlisted video on setting up each device? I would like to try it!
I just now saw that you uploaded, my boi i missed u. I have mac 2017 air, literally brand new cuz i take care of things, yet its lagging alot and turns off randomly when using. Now that you’ve talked about thinkpad i will consider it.
Hi James, could you please say what phone launcher you use and confirm the earbud brand you use? I've been enjoying your content keep up the good work!!
I bought an HP pavilion 360 for structural engineering projects , for learning freelance video editing and coding in python . Is that a good choice??
Bro's so chilled🤙
Everyone just ignoring the cinematic masterpiece James slipped in when he wanted to talk about thinkpads
Im thinking about to buy a x1 carbon 6th generation with a Intel Core i7-8550U for my cs degree, do you think its still good nowadays and that it's enough to code?
sick vid bossman!
you're the coolest guy online
The decade old ThinkPad and Dell Latitudes literally lasted me from freshman year of college to until I got my first okay paying job when I could upgrade to something slightly newer.
how does your videos always have a yellow shade? is it color correction or you have specific lamps:?
the modified thinkpad thing is what my dad's being doing for years and the base of it is so THICK LMAO
What’s a good alternative to the nook glow light 4, in the uk?
Is that a e-ink board you have with the keyboard? If so, what model?
