- This Tonka is going to get a new lease on life as a custom tandem axle dump truck. I wanted to make a matching set of a mini Tonka dump truck and a Mighty Tonka dump truck. The truck was well loved, so it is not perfect, but it is perfectly ready for a new generation of enjoyment!

Channellock 6" needle nose pliers amzn.to/2CXlWcI

The right proportions with that second pair of wheels. Nice
I didn’t expect it to turn out that well. It looks super cool!! You did a good job!
I appreciate that honest comment/compliment. It definitely could be made nicer with a more custom frame, but I wanted to see if it could be done nicely with what I had on hand.
Nice restoration of both of the dump trucks,to bad that you couldn't find any mini tires for the mini-Tonka like the Mighty Tonka dump truck has on it,it would look good with them on it & nice job painting the rims for the mini-Tonka,it looks great 👍
I used to have one of those big Tonka dump trucks back in the early 1980s.. Great customization on this dump truck😊😊😊😊
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
Love this build. The articulation of the rear wheels is especially cool. Maybe on the next one you could do duellies on the rear.( possibly articulation on the front wheels as well).😀
That would be cool. I would have to find a different style of tire though because tonka tires are too wide.
Beautiful doubble restoration. The new movable tandem axle of the mighty Tonka looks awesome, the set wonderful.
Thank you very much!
Great job on that mighty Tonga and the mini Tonga looks nice with the color change to the wheels and frame.
Thanks. I was really pleased with the results.
Good job....the only thing I would add is to remove EVERY rivet...cab joins, body joins, deck joins....everything...they will rust again from these areas if not completely sand blasted and primed before reassembling and top coating..
That was HUGE! Love the ending outside.
Thank you so much. It was fun recording outdoors. It was such a beautiful day!
great job,jpj
Thanks John!
Oh that's AWESOME!
Thanks, It was a fun project and my brother-in-law loved it.
Your FX skills are "tight" 🤣🤣
Great build man. 5🌟's
Much appreciated
Brilliant job mate looks fab
Thank you. I just love watching it move over the ground.
Greats stuff, and real fun to watch!😃😃
Thanks! 😀
Great job man
I appreciate that. Thank you.
Where do you get replacement parts?
Gasoline alley toys is a great place to go. Thanks for watching!
Hiya, brilliant! A bit late to this. What do you call the spring you put the axel inside? Thanks.
I believe it is just called a screen door spring. They are about a foot long and I just used a cut off wheel to cut it to size.
I think it's going to look kind of interesting to cool at the same time now I did have a couple of Tonka trucks when I was young but they were not ones like that or they were similar I actually I'm working on restoring a 1959 repair truck with the ladder I'm trying to decide what am I going to do with it and I got to get parts so unfortunately for two white walls are for white walls on was in the process of getting the the wheels off and it's missing a ladder when I got it in the windshields like destroyed
Hi Larry, That service truck is very cool. You can buy parts on ebay or gasolinealleytoys.com. Good luck
@@RepairRestore good looking out bro 👍👍
Tonka Road Grader wheels looks great... nice job
I like the setup what did you use for the 3 hole setup.was it cut off of another toy
They are used on the early Tonka road graders. Thanks for watching.
@@RepairRestore thanks
Gets ya wondering why didn't tonka came up.with that idea. Probably sold more product than before.
My thoughts exactly
monster truck next
If you look at my channel you will see a video called "The Fall Guy Truck" that is the monster truck. I hope you enjoy it.
Now that's a really cool transformation. Hope you're planning on doing more like this one. Great job! 👍👍
More to come!
Hey Earl how about making another dump truck like that but with ta rectangular box it a gravel tuck with tandem beds with back door closed
Where did you find those tandem axles?
Those came off of an early Tonka grader.
Nice resto and customisation. A Walking Beam rear suspension. This keeps all the wheels in contact with the ground.
A superb restoration Earl, but what's more, the tandem alle extension is a great improvement.
Great job!!! This is the way Tonka SHOULD have made them!!!
I think so too! Thanks for watching.
Hey Earl you notice the Little yellow dump has no exhaust pipes?
AMAZING, AWESOME RESTORATION THE DOUBLE AXIS LOVE, MY CONGRATULATIONS, by the way I have a question I have plans to restore a tonka of the same model. I have a question about how to get the windshield of the cabin, it is the same of the models of the 80s of different bodywork called MIGHTY TONKA because I can not get one that says from the 70s. If you can help me, I would appreciate it. THANKS
Once you remove the body section off of the frame you can access the two tabs that are bent in that hold the upper cab in place. Bend those straight and then you can lift up on the metal housing that covers the window. Thanks for watching and I hope that helps.
@@RepairRestore Thanks, but this is another question and sorry for taking your time, the windshield I must change because it is in very bad condition and I have seen on Ebay the replacements but they do NOT say which model except the Mighty Tonka I think of the 80s and my model is like yours 70s, I ask you is the same size or is there a difference and if it is not the same where I can buy it. THANKS
@@luisd.pacheco1074 If it is the Turbo Diesel style from the 80's I don't believe anybody makes one. Gasoline alley toys sells a good selection of replacement parts.
That's almost the size difference between a highway truck and a real mining truck.
They run with two axles to save tires and have a tighter turning radius.
THAT IS WICKEDLY FUCKIN' COOL i HAD A TONKA DUMP TRUCK JUST LIKE THAT ONE BUT MINE ONLY HAD THE FOUR WHEELS i WOULD'VE LOVED TO HAVE THE TANDEM AXLES IN THE BACK. YOU GAVE THIS TRUCK A NEW LEASE ON LIFE. i LOVE IT
Thank you very much! Watching the rear axles move over the terrain was super cool!
Love this custom build came together just right would like to see the fall guy truck
Vote counted. I look at the truck and think,"That should have been a factory option"!
Fall Guy is the winner ,but it will be a week late. The decals are coming from the UK and are taking longer than expected. I hope for your patience.
Fall guy truck ????? Whhhhhhat ?
Oh man I LOVED that show.
Lee Majors was a childhood idol of mine, first the six million dollar man then fall guy, I loved all of that stuff growing up.
Restoring a fall guy truck would be EPIC....... CAN'T WAIT
Great special effects at the end! How'd you make it move by itself?
Very cool.
Thanks. I just used a thin steel wire. If your looking for it you can see it.
The real mighty tonka tandem have them set closer to the front, your looks off and should be moved to look more like the originals.
Other then that nice modification
Hi Jake. I did not want it to look like the cement mixer Mighty Tandem. I personally don't care for the look. I wanted it look more like a regular tandem on a dump truck. Thanks for the input.
How .uch does it cost to have 1 of these restored????
That came out cool as hell....
Thanks Paul!
Top job. Im just starting a 6 wheel conversion myself. 👍
Nice 👍
Looks Great Now we need to see one Duel wheeled like the real ones Also widen the dump bed
That would be cool, but I think I would have to narrow the tires as well.
Just came across this. Awesome! Liked and Subscribed!
Thank you very much, Sir Squallywally! 😀 I am so glad to see you on the channel. See you next time!
Mouse nest! Hope you were wearing a mask and washed your hands well!
Negative on the mask😀, but I am sure I washed my hands before I ate.😄
That is really freakin cool.........big brother and little brother
Thanks. I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching.
Picolo Tonka🤗
Picolo Tonka - Potente Tonka Thanks for watching
Complete with a test drive, thanks buddy
You bet!
Pimp my tonka , looks better than their design
Right on!
Where is the hydronic cylinder for the dump bed.
This was not a Hydraulic Dump. That would be cool though.
Great Job.David and Goliath 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching. Hopefully the little truck doesn't flung like David's stone! 😀😀
neat job.
Now THAT was frikkin awesome!!!!
Thanks! That was a fun build!
excellent job - you would have really impressed me if you had extended the dump box 4 inches
Now that is sharp I like that. 😀👍
Thanks 👍
Fall Guy truck definitely!
Good choice! It actually did win the vote and is on my channel now. I love how it turned out.
The only problem I can see is that the dump bed will hit the tire
I agree with you. I placed them there because I thought it looked better to scale. An actual dump truck bed pivots at a point that is higher than the tire. This Tonka dump bed pivots at a point halfway down the framerail. I had to balance the look that I wanted with the stock bed setup. Excellent catch. 😀
@@RepairRestore the Tonka truck is a replica of the large-scale mining Rock trucks and those trucks do not have Duallys like you put on the truck they are on the same axle
You wear no gloves? why?
I know that a lot of other guys wear gloves, but I would not if I wasn't recording it so I decided not to while recording. Maybe not wise, but just keeping it real. Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the final result.
The shovel! Marvelous job on both trucks. When you put the decal on the mini, I just thought "awah". Hope dad and baby liked them.
Just a thought: if you are going to wear such a nice watch while working, you might want to put a piece of masking tape on the crystal to prevent damage.
Vote counted. So far I've not damaged it. Maybe I am tempting fate. 😀
I would love to see these old toys customized. You know like Bitch'n Ride custom. They are steel, Some body work, custom paint, interiors, suspension, wheels and tires, light kits 3D printed parts. You know take it to the next level.
That would be awesome. I would love to see that too!
Omg. I use to have one of those large dumpers when I was a kid. It's brought back some long forgotten memories, thank you.
And as always I find your videos oddly satisfying to watch, although the sand blasting was a bit disappointing this time, but still I really enjoyed watching.
Thanks Sean, I am glad that you liked it. That is an older video and I am using new glass in the sandblaster more often to keep the view clearer. I am curious, would you like to see longer segments of sandblasting (if it is good quality) or is the length about right?
Fall Guy truck!
I have the finished "Fall Guy" truck sitting on the table next to me right now. Unfortunately the hood decal is coming from the UK and is late in arriving. I am hoping that it comes this week. It is driving me crazy waiting!
Awesome superb outstanding excellent beautiful stupendous amazing job you did on that truck
Thank you so much 😀
Mmmmmmmmm NO 🤔
Aww, Come on!
I’d love to have that big one. That’s Awesome.
Beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing transformation into a real appearing dump truck. Thank You
for your restorations. 👍🇺🇸
Thank you so much. I think it looks so much better this way,and I love how the axles move as you drive over things.
Fall Guy
Fall Guy is the winner, but it will be a week late. The decals are coming from the UK and are taking longer than expected. I hope for your patience. Thanks for watching.
That’ looks amazing looks like a factory build 👍👍👍
Thanks Anthony, it was a fun build!
Sandblasting is my favorite part and also watching the paint turn from powder to shiny hard. Not a fan of spray paint.
Hi Sheilah. This restoration was done before I had a powder coating set up. I did powder coat a dump truck a couple of months ago though. Thanks for watching!
Powder is for the rich
Is a really nice job I like stay safe and stay home safe wow wow wow I like muy bonito amigo
Thanks 👍
Awesome restoration and modification! Excellent job!
Thank you very much!
Loved it. Would love to see the Fall Guy truck next. I used to love that show as a kid.
Thanks, the Fall Guy is the next big project. There has been a hold up with the decals so it will probably come out a week late. So you don't have to wait too long to see a new video, I am going to show me making a semi to match the one my dad drives to give him on Father's day.
4x4 first place

Cool bogie system on the tandom axle. They both turned out great. I think it'd be cool to do an RC conversion to a tonka truck.
That would be awesome!
It's been done.theres a video of it on you tube somewhere
👍🇧🇷
👍
Nice job, very impressed with your work. very creative!
Thank you. I appreciate that.
Awesome restoration. You make it look easy.
Thanks, but you only see the good parts. Most of the mistakes are off camera. :)
Great job. Loved how they both turned out. I vote for the Fall Guy truck

By restoration. Gotta love it.
Thank you so much.
I agree that was really cool and neat how it was done.
Thanks, I just gave it to my brother-in-law yesterday for him and his boy. He loved it.
@@RepairRestore I am sure he did, seeing these Tonkas redone brings out the little boy in all of us.
the custom fall guy truck!!!!
Vote counted. No matter what they will both get done, so if it doesn't win, keep watching!

Nice way to abuse a caliper 👍
I know, I saw that as I was putting the video together and I cringed. I must break that habit.😬

@@RepairRestore I'm patient lol. Cant wait.
Great restomod
Thanks. I hope they like them.
@@RepairRestore I do. I think the new tires look like they belong on it.
@@Chevelle_addict I completely agree. I wish Tonka would have made this as an option.
Nice custom job well done, I love tin toys.
Thanks for watching. I love them too. This one needed a little touch of custom.
@@RepairRestore Great idea, looks cool.
My mom gave me a Mighty Tonka in summer of 1979 when I was 4 years old
That is fantastic. I hope you had a ton of fun with it and this brought back good memories. Have a wonderful weekend.
Very interesting convertions. Never seen anyone else do similar things to these toys.
I vote for the fall guy tribute
Vote counted. Thanks for watching.
pickup
The pickup with be the next big project. The decals are taking longer to show up than I had planned on. I will have to fill in a week with a small project.
