The colour scheme looks so much better than the original. (As an aside, municipal vehicles and equipment in my hometown were painted white with green trim in the 1970s. Today, they are mustard yellow with red lettering. It is not an improvement.)
It good to see someone restore these but put a different spin on them not just put them back like you would see them in the store which I nice but I think it gives them character
Thank you for the kind words. A new video will be up on Friday and I now have much better lighting and a fantastic camera. I am trying to keep stepping up my game.
Thanks, I really enjoy the customs myself. Be on the lookout for my next video. I am doing a custom tandem axle dump truck that will be posted by next Sunday. Thanks for watching.
Very, very, very, good restoration sir any kid would be happy to have that truck as part of his Tonka collection I would when I was kid over 50 years ago......I once had some older antique metal toys my great uncle Abe gave to me they were made in the 1940's and also some Auburn hard rubber toys some cars, police motorcycles, a road grader, bulldozer, and a couple of trucks...If my memory is right probably a total of about 20 toys I had and I had a blast making roads and stick homes, and businesses....I had 3 friends friends along with their collections they mostly had Tonka, and Nylint toys we probably had at least 70 to 80 toys......
Hi Robert, Thank you for such a kind comment and sharing your memory with me. I can just imagine how much fun you had being the contractor in charge, building what you wanted and moving what you wanted changed. Such a good and healthy part of growing up.
you should convert one of these old tonkas into an rc truck with trick looking coilover suspension and bro-dozer wheels. Get a flat bill hat and white oakleys and say "sick bruh"
I hope yours is in good shape. Where I live in the northern midwest, most things from 94 are terribly rusted. Especially the MDOT trucks. Too much salt in winter.
Thank you for that. I like to have a mix of original and originality. I am uploading a video of a dually dump pickup truck that I turn into a tandem axle New York City DOT truck.
the chicago got me here. steets and san, water, forestry departmnts: all lt. blue. park dist all construction yellow. DOT no trucks they were all clerks. all vehicles had brown seats and from 70-75 most were dodge a few fords. door graphic 4" black letters and city seal. i hit like wokmanship good
Cool. If you will indulge my being a Biniski {Italian for Troublemaker} Would welding the seams on the nose, cab roof, and the dump box to make them disappear affect the restoration? AND, the dashboard is begging for gauges. AND, several layers of fine screen in a frame behind the grill for a radiator? Keep up the great work.
Hi Michael, I imagine that welding the seams could make it look really clean, but you would have to be very careful to not overheat the metal. Those other details would look good if executed cleanly. Thanks for the feedback.
Reaned it ??!!! A Thank you for every one of ArtWorks !!!!!! GodChrist blessing dude !!!!! Me personally would like it very much if you find an old caterpillar tractor w/the side comb and restore it....an an old Apache truck😀😉🌏🌎🌍🏁✔💯☝🙏⚾👍
Looks great I think I would of like the old rubber wheels and made the back.wheel sullie they never did them on the dumps Crane the did also do you know where I can find the small Tonka cement mixer the little red with white DRUM looking for 2 drums
WOW very good color combination I love it, I have recently bought a model as it is hoping to achieve even half of how excellent it is that you have done. I can ask the type of rivet you use for the base that connects to the truck, which measurement it is and the tool that is the one you must turn to press the rivet if you can tell me. THANKS
Hi Luis, Thanks for watching. The rivet is a Semi tubular rivet and the size is 1/8"x1/8". The tool I use is made by Arbortime. I have a video of it on my channel that gives all the info on it. Have a great day.
Well, seems your name is almost exactly like Rescue and Restore a YT site that has been doing high quality restorations on Tonka and other toys. Coincidence?
No, definitely not a coincidence. There are a lot of channels that sound a lot like each other. Another one that I enjoy is Restore & Repair. That is even more like mine. There is plenty of room for our different takes on the hobby. Believe me, I do not ever claim to be as talented as Rescue and Restore is at presenting his restorations. If you look at his last one, it is mwaaa!! . Absolute perfection. Thanks for watching. Maybe one day I can get close to that level of presentation.
@@RepairRestore hehe it's okay, I look forward to it! Putting decals can be tough. what I found works best is just put down the edge of the long end and slide the backing out from under it, lengthwise. it's okay to just let the water air dry as you don't have to deal with tears/crumpling when wiping dry There's a decal setting solution you may like as well. www.walmart.com/ip/Tamiya-TAM87102-Mark-Fit-Decal-Solution/44489532?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=17761&adid=22222222227000000000&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-51320962143&wl5=9030967&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=127767841&wl11=online&wl12=44489532&veh=sem&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvarum7Lf6QIV6R-tBh32SwuZEAQYCSABEgI5GfD_BwE
Finally, some1 made a custom truck that is NOT yellow = GREAT JOB - like the concept of CDOT / works well
Waaaooooo beautiful.
nice job
I love seeing the results of a restoration on these trucks. Well done. 🐨🐨🐨🦘🦘🦘👍👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Wonderful Video!!! This truck has a place of honor in my workroom!! Thank you John. I enjoyed watching this. Mike
Thanks Mike! 👍

Great color choice. One little mean machine. !!!!!!!
Thank you so much. I appreciate that you took the time to watch.
Not sure about the front stripe on a work truck, but given what you started with, doubt the municipal workers will complain. Looks great !
You are probably right about that. Thanks for watching!
I have this same truck.how much would a restoration like this cost ???
Excellent awesome superb outstanding stupendous amazing job you did on that beautiful truck keep up the good work

Nice video & congrats with the 1k subs!
Thank you very much. It just happened this morning. Needless to say, It was a good feeling!!
@@RepairRestore yes i Saw it, i was the thousandth😂
While I do enjoy faithful restorations, it's the customs and alternate versions that I really like. Definitely an improvement over the original.

I would love to see that as well, unfortunately that is a bit outside of my expertise. Hope to see it someday though!
@@RepairRestore This size Tonka is pretty well suited to the metal WPL 1/16 rock crawler chassis and axles
Really, really NICE restoration, man!!
My admiration from Sevilla!!
😉👍

Really nice restoration, also there are several channels that restore as originals, customization is a great improvement, please keep doing it.

I really like the colors you picked and the hood stars and strips set it off nicely. Awesome job 👍👍

That is great info. I think that they showed a Chicago Public Works truck in the original Superman movie.
Looks great, nice choice of the CDOT livery..
Thanks for watching. I also had to use the opportunity to use the Chicago city flag. Absolutely Brilliant flag!
Very cool to watch your process! Nicely done!!

Well will you look there seats and a steering wheel good job
Thank you, I had a wonderful time restoring it. I love the detail that these trucks have with so few parts.
What company made that blue it's really nice
It is a rustoleum color
I have one with original paint and parts and it looks brand new just one small scratch on the front left bumper do you know how much it’s worth?
