  • ** Unfortunately the helicopter we saw was there to rescue a man who sadly died after a fall. Link to story: tinyurl.com/snowdoniaaccident
    After staying in a Travel Lodge overnight after bailing on camping due to torrential rain, I headed first thing to the foot of Tryfan to meet 2 friends Ingrid and Mike from a Hiking Group who wanted to join the hike.
    This has to be the best days scrambling/climbing/hiking I've experienced so far and absolutely loved every minute of it. The weather was perfect with low wind and blue skies which made for a great day of climbing.
    If you haven't done this before, Tryfan North Ridge is quite exposed and has some serious scrambling so do your research if you're not confident in those scenarios. It's well worth it though and I can easily recommend it for the thrill and the views.
    Unfortunately on the way up quite high on Tryfan I noticed my DJI Wireless Mic had come off my chest strap and never to be seen again. this not only had my audio from that morning but also my audio from yesterday (last weeks) video up Pen yr Ole Wen therefore apologies for the audio. At the end of today's hike I went back up high up Tryfan solo before dark to try and find it but to no avail.
    I can claim freedom of Tryfan after jumping Adam and Eve. this is no mean feat as it's tricky to get on top of them as it is but today there was ice on top making the jump tricky but managed it.
    After Tryfan we climbed Bristly Ridge and headed for Sinister Gully. it turns out we headed too far right and actually ascended via Dexter gully, the trickier of the two, but it was awesome. This was my favourite part of the hike as was really exposed and steep. I did shoot with my drone however when I put my controller in my bag whilst climbing I knocked the button and it flipped the camera down....therefore I have 15 mins footage of the floor. Oops.
    Heading onto the Glyders we eve climbed Castle in the winds which again I highly recommend and that's where I stood with the 360 camera.
    Really hope you enjoyed this video of todays journey and do leave any feedback or comments below. I will be heading back there later this month and can't wait to do this all again. Maybe I'll get some drone footage next time...we'll see!
    Thanks for taking the time to read this and watch the video.
    Kris x

    On the topic of route (Tryfan) and the point at which you mentioned some people deviating to the left: from what I remember, you generally follow the boulder/scree field and stay on its RH side. It will eventually point you in an upward direction, at which point it is fairly easy going. You come out a little left and down from the cannon stone, but only after that point is it really an absolute of stay centre as much as possible. Otherwise in the beginning I think you do kind of stray over a little to the left hand side of the ridge

      Haha thanks Ashley. I love how he describes how he’s taking us up Sinister and we are ended up on Bristly 😂.
      It’s an awesome hike and as you saw on FB was there again on Saturday. Got a lot more footage last weekend so that should be out in a couple of weeks.

      I can see why as mine too now! In fact I’ve since been back last weekend and made another video. I know it’s soon after this one but made an effort to capture a lot more footage of the ascents and took more challenging lines.

      Aww thank you Jess it’s lovely to hear comments like this and really nice to hear it makes you want to get out. I struggled to get out lots the last couple of my years and other people on UA-cam inspired me to get out too 😊
      Sure I’ll catch you on a hike at some point when you’re back to full force.

    Those terrex free hikers look good 😅 it's Dan btw from the hiking group. I'm pretty sure I was on Tryfan same day as you. Took a wrong route up the North Ridge and ended up on some sketch scrambles. Great fun though

      Hi Dan, haha so did I! I’ve been back since and really did take a challenging route up there and got ridge locked at one point. I highly rate the Freehiker Gortex and had them for a couple of years now. This is my 3rd paid (V1’s). Literally wear them all year around in all conditions and I’ll never go back to boots again. Great grip, comfy, lightweight and waterproof. If you need ankle support they’re not for you as soft but for me they’re perfect as like to move quick. Awesome boots

      Cheers Daz. On this all audio is coming straight from the GoPro as had no mic as lost it. Same with the previous video. All sounds just straight from camera. I think now to make my life easy I’ll only use the mic for when I’m using the 360 footage or away from camera

    Beg you do a video on what to wear. I swear I always get too hot when I’m climbing up but then I’m too cold or whatever. Is there a balance to this ?! Or anything you reccomend a specific base layer etc

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Рік тому

      Okay great feedback Anna and will do. It’s all about layers and if you know you’re going to be ascending it’s good to be cold first and take layers off as you will get hot. I changed my outfit so many times on these videos but actually only had a few things with me just switched them around. I’ll look to made a video 💪🏼

    Good to see you get out in abisko if you still got ? What do you rate the terrex boots ?

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Рік тому +1

      100% yes I still have it and will do. I haven’t been out for a camp at all this year and have some new tents and do want to get out in that too as haven’t used it since Coast 2 Coast and love the tent
      I absolutely love the terrex FreeHiker I have (Gortex not Prime Blue). This is my 3rd pair and have a 4th at home too. Best thing I’ve ever bought as super comfy and lightweight and waterproof too. They might not be for everyone but I can’t fault them and worn them for 2yrs now.
      I only wear these now too all year around I and all conditions.

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Рік тому

      @@bradjones2924 A lot of people have those and really rate them. I’ve never tried them as I know they are quite flat footed which is a benefit to some but I prefer some bounce in the heel.
      I’ve never been one for trail runners as I don’t like wet feet which can happen but they dry quick so that’s a bonus. My feet stayed dry on the coast to coast for all 11 days using my terrex and for me personally these will be by boots all year around. I’ll also get some full boots for next year as plan to hike high in winter snow in Scotland so makes sense.

      We didn’t hang about I must admit but it was awesome and when you’re in the flow you just keep pushing on. I’ve since had it replaced by DJI for a token payment of £27 which is ace as saved me over £250 so happy now

      @@AdventuresWithLilu I have a drone too but I don’t always fly it. I had it in my bag for this one and did film the climb but someone put my controller in my bag whilst I climbed but they hit a button which made the camera look down to the floor so didn’t film anything haha

    • @krisgleave
      @krisgleave  Рік тому +2

      It’s a stick that works with the Insta360 X3 camera. When you use it with that it magically hides the stick from the shot which is ace

Just ordered an attachment from China that I can strap to the back of my bag and have a shorter pole on with the camera on and works the same way. It’ll look like something out of GTA haha
