This 1956 Oldsmobile is the epitome of mid fifties style & is in excellent condition & Palm Springs is a mecca of mid century modern architecture, a great place!!!! Thanks for sharing this exciting video!!! 👍👍🙂
I love love these car's. My parents had this car when I was a kid. Ours was Kelly green and mint green. It was beautiful. It was in many of our family pictures. In 1963 we made a big trip from Oklahoma to California in that car. We rented one of those funky window air coolers. Traveling through the desert was horrible, it was later in the afternoon when we went across. I stripped down to my little girl panties, Dad took his shirt off,Mom had a tank top on and pulled up her hair and mine too. I loved that big car I had the big back seat all to myself and my baby dolls and all their cloths. It's a trip I will always fondly remember. One time somebody vandalized it while it sat in our driveway. They had pulled all the knobs out and bent them down. They some how bent the gear shift and the blinker, the radio knobs were messed up too. We didn't know about it until we got into the car the next day to go to the store. I had gone out to get into the car and saw the damage first, I ran in to the house to get Mom, she was so upset she cried and so did I. It broke my heart when we traded it in, we got a 1964 Chevy Impala, it was a pretty car, but not as beautiful as our Oldsmobile.
Wow thank you for sharing your story , I feel like I have seen a movie with your descriptive tale ! Glad you had a great childhood in this wonderful car ! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting with such a wonderful story !

I had a Rocket 88 1955 it was one of the best running Cars I every had I was 14 years old. An worked two sometimes three Jobs. An it would get you there. Good Car.
1956 Oldsmobile 98 hardtop is my favorite designed car of all time; one always takes me breath away. It is bested only by the 1956 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire Convertible in my opinion. I can not thank you enough for this amazing video.
Did you spend your time lounging on the rear window deck or fighting siblings over the imaginary line in the middle of the vast back seat ? Ah the good old days , thanks for watching and commenting !
Great car! Thank you for the good ride and rock'n'roll music. I like Oldsmobiles, they look very well-designed and reflect the spirit of the mid-fifties. Just iconic cars.
Oldsmobile sabotaged themselves as a brand when they adopted the “This is not your father’s Oldsmobile” slogan when it was a question that nobody was thinking about. Oldsmobile was a popular brand and they gave themselves the stigma of being an old man’s car.
Never thought about that angle ! Always assumed it was because of the archaic name that had Old and Mobile in the name, thanks for watching and commenting !
In my opinion, Olds should've marketed themselves that had something for every age group and not alienating one group in favour of the other. Olds were handsome cars without being too pompous or obnoxious that set them apart.
GM was behind it's not your father's olds slogan. GM picked Olds to compete with the luxury imports thus changing the direction of Olds, and ultimately destroying the division. 50 past, American buyers was Olds traditional market for decades. Plus " Olds " was in the name. GM should've picked Pontiac to go after luxury imports and left Olds alone. The div might still be here....might....interesting though, Cadillac today picked up where GM left off with Olds after the div was closed. Buick is today experiencing the market alienation Oldsmobile did. Buick is pushing youthful in the US and having issues. China is keeping buick afloat today.
@@tommywatterson5276 Buick (the premium American motor car) has no vehicles made in the U.S.A. Everything is an SUV and all are made in Korea, except the larges SUV, which comes from Canada.
I like the clean lines of the mid 50's cars. As the decade progressed the fins got clownishly larger. The exception was the 56/57 Continental. It was extremely expensive but so elegantly classy.
Thank you for sharing. I appreciated watching this video. You grow to appreciate cars such as this one. I smiled. I own a 1996 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight.

I remember that well up into the 1960s an automatic transmission was a $750 option in most GM cars. I believe it was standard in Olds, Buick and Caddilac.
@@johnchandler1687 Yes automatics were standard in those divisions by the 1960s. Chevy and Pontiacs were a little more sporty anyways so manuals still fit them. You had the 2 speed power glide which was the entry level automatic for ever.
Sorry to be a Stlicker but the hydramatic is a 4spd automatic not a 3spd. I say this because automatic transmission technology actually went backwards between 1963 and 1979 until ford came out with the aod.
What a gorgeous Oldsmobile. I'm in Florida not but had a lot of customers that lived in "that neighborhood" when I lived in Calif. A lot of the "boys" in PS love their classic cars. What a well-done video. Is that car pretty much original as I saw the odometer read 54K miles? I'm sure all the brightwork has been redone. That is one rare beauty. Tanks for sharing.
Isn't the Jetaway Hydra-Matic a four speed? P 213 of Motor's 1968 Auto Repair Manual illustrates planetary gearsets for the Jetaway in first speed, second speed, third speed, and fourth speed.

They were all built in 1959 in a mid century design but many in the 70s and 80s were modified to look Spanish Californian or Santa Fe and are very ugly. These houses were actually very cheap and designed to be weekend party pads for the hollywood players not full time family homes.
