I think the main issue some people on the right have is this: those people on the left, commenting how Trump should've died, are actively and openly supportive of political terrorism. It's not the same as just criticizing or hating someone, it's actively and intentionally wishing for that someone's death through violence. Also, some people were making fun of the innocent person who died while trying to protect his family. So personally, I do tend to agree more with the right's response here.
You're never too young to be the adult in the room. You're never too low to take the high road. And your never so inadequate you can't lead by example.
I had a psychotic break 8 years ago and, long story short, thought there was a 'social war game' happening which was cut throat and based on normal language meaning something different (for some reason hahaha). After I started regaining my sanity, I had the problem of not knowing for sure if it was psychosis or people were gaslighting me. I went with, 'I can be a good, selfless person and let go of my ego and even if it is true, I know I am good.' Buddhism really helps people deal with their psychological problems. Thanks for helping with that by the way!
Anyone who has a Ghoulardi sticker on his book shelf is all right by me. Ghoulardi earned my undying admiration when he visited our neighborhood back in the mid ‘sixties to play in a softball game at Bohlken Park in Fairview Park owing to his cussing out the obnoxious kids on my street who attempted to swarm him in his convertible as he was attempting to make a quick getaway with his uber hot lady companion who if I recall correctly was wearing a really tight leopard print shirt. I had never witnessed an adult using profanity on such small children before. When I taught high school in the Cleveland ghetto I would revisit that moment of peak experience to summon forth my inner Ghoulardi when dealing with the many juvenile delinquents I was expected to civilize. What Ghoulardi taught me was that sometimes you have to be a jerk.

I agree 100% Brad -- however, I think people who are in curtain positions give up that right to openly express themselves. The example of a politician is a good one that you mention, but there are also folks in academia. An example is, here in Canada we had a UBC medical doctor/professor say the same stuff on Twitter. Is this acceptable from such a person? My feeling is NO!. 1. She is in a position or power and influence; influencing the younger generation (i.e. students). 2. She took and oath to do no harm. Advocating for violence is harm and in breach of that oath. So, from a general perspective we should not perpetuate hate/cancel culture -- but there are times where we should hold people accountable for their actions.

Some thoughts on this: a) The typical samurai/bushi was part of the feudal system/order, which he regarded as natural/sacred and to be actively protected namely by the civil/military stuff of the “big names“ (daimyou). b) According to the pan-jiao system, we can/should between at least four kinds/levels of (Za-)Zen. c) The dilemma of “what can I, what should I do?“,while being part of the Theatrum Mundi, was already many, many moons ago voiced, e.g., in the Baghavad Gita - and it also “works“ inside the Zen-movement (as im-/explicitly shown, e.g., by D.T. Suzuki and the Kyouto-school). Things often turn out to be difficult, even the (supposedly) easy ones. -Regards
