It's interesting that the Kumulipo says the first living organisms originated in the sea and created counterparts on land. Nowadays we know through science that life did originate in the sea, and eventually moved to the land and evolved. The ancient Hawaiians had a good intuition about how nature works.
I love this story. It is also scientifically correct. Through DNA, we are all 'oiwi, related. I am not originally Hawaiian, but the Kumulipo feels very sacred and true to me.
