Great video, very detailed and was exactly what I needed to do a successful change out myself. Did the spark plugs while I had it open. Could not have done it without this video. Thanks!
Glad the video was helpful. Thank you for watching!
You made my job so much easier couldn’t afford the quote of 3,000 for replacement. So i did it and this video was spot on worked like a charm and you’re top to label everything helped a lot. Did it first try will this video. Thanks again
I was quoted $2800, I think I may do the same.. Great video Brian, $$$ saver!!
Thanks for putting out quality videos like these, and preforming quality repairs. very informational.
Use a zip tie anytime you're removing those PCV heater hoses, makes life a whole lot easier
Great video, another tip... on FCP EURO you can purchase the full valve cover kit which comes with all necessary and common failure parts. Also everything comes pre-installed on the valve cover so it saves time. I also highly recommend replacing the spark plugs while doing this job since you’re already in there.
Couple pointers. Should have removed the tray before removing the valve cover to avoid dirt and debris falling into the engine. also should cover the fuel injectors with caps to avoid dirt going in them. I understand you are flat rate, but you shouldnt cut corners because of that. Client is king and expect quality work. Good Video.
What trey
Very good video. I found that the main fuel rail needed to be removed to gain the clearance to remove the valve cover.
Excellent Video Sir., you did show why and how to do it in great detail. ill be doing my 2013 x5 35i 3.0 turbo in a few days. i decided to do sparkplugs and a new top pan cover with new gasket, as its a big job for the back yard guy and i dont want to redo it again anytime soon because of the valve cover minute hairline cracked possibly so... ty 100--100 excellentttt ty
Thanks for making this video it saved me money and time doing it myself.
Hi Brian It's nice to see you are back in doing video another great Video
ian young thank you!
This video saved me a lot of time and money, thank you.
Glad to hear that. Thank you for watching!
Great video brother, I will be replacing one on my X5
Thank you for you help. Great video . Step by step.
Hey Brian idk if you know this already but on newer BMWs you have to let that fuel rail cool off completely before you starting messing with it. Just wanted to give to a heads up. Great video btw 👍
Great maintance vedio! Greetings from a Watch restoring guy
Use Gasket tack to hold the gasket in place as well as helping it seal better. Not silicone but "High Tack Gasket sealant"
old video, I remove more of the stuff off fire wall.. it is easy to screw up the oneway breather under valve cover, horsing it around..
Thanks for this amazing video
Wish me luck!!!
Awesome video, thank you for sharing!
I have this same vehicle and same engine this is actually an E70 2011-2013 with the N55. This engine was carried on to the F15 in 2014. So the title is a bit misleading but it’s the same exact process whether you have the E70 or F15 as long as it has the N55.
That's a job well done! 👍
Awesome video, great detail!!
Thank you!
Great job bro
Hey thx for the video especially the tightning chart. Quick question there is a piece sticking out from underneath the valve cover that could fall off during removal or reinstallation, can you help me understand what does that piece do? Unfortunately on my valve cover the base for that piece also fell off so I can't simply put it back on without gluing. I didn't install it when I put the cover back on, been about 150 miles and fine so far
Nice video brother 👍👍👍
It’s necessary the adhesive black silicone At the head of the motor or not ? Or just to keep the gasket in place? ,Thank you ! You are the man!
nice well explained thanks sir .i have to change my vvt .i have to do all this please guide .how long it took .
Amazing detailed job 👏🏼
Thank you!
@@HowtoAutomotive thanks to your video I found out that after replacing my valve cover the mechanic forgot to install the cam sensor gasket and the car was leaking oil and air ! I bought it and installed it my self now the car is running smooth :) but I see that there's another gasket that it's call variable lift eccentric shaft actuator and looks similar to the cam gasket,I'm just wondering where's is located ?
nice vid thanks for upload
Excellent video I recently had this work done but now receiving a drivetrain error and I suspect he might have crossed the two harness connections also the oil level check won’t go past 17% I had none of those issues before the valve cover replacement.
How did you resolve the issues... help the community .... thanks
Thanks for the detailed video.
Thank you for watching!
You make it look easy! 😄
Thank you I try.
i have a 2013 x5 6 cylinder. one mechanic said I really should replace the valve cover AND the gasket, but I haven't heard of that being necessary yet. Another mechanic told me to replace the gasket. It's definitely leaking and needs to be done in the next day or so. I was notified of leakage a year or so ago, but it was minimal at that time. The one mechanic said that since the valve cover is plastic it bends over time and simply adding a new gasket may not take care of a perfect seal anymore. I'm hesitant to spend the extra hundreds of dollars on a new valve cover. What do you think ??
Can you post a link or source where I can get those pliers you used to remove the fuel injector connectors? Please that would be helpful.
Great video very informative.
Are you going to be doing a video on the new Milwaukee right angle impact?
Victor Garcia Yes I will be doing a video on the right angle impact. They are sending me one out now so I should have it soon.
Do you know what the part name is for the first vacuum line you pulled off before remove the intake snorkel? I broke the connector and I am trying to replace it. Can’t find the part name anywhere. Think you say it was a vent line when you put it back together. Thank you for any help!
Nice work
Thank you!
Great video. How many hours did that take you?
awesome video with details. thank you so much.
Thank you!
@@HowtoAutomotive i did the job two days ago after watching your video. i didnt had a torque wrench with me at that time so i did what i felt with hand.i received the torque wrench yesterday i am thinking to check with the wrench tomorrow
@@aneeshbabup you are most likely going to be ok but it can’t hurt to dibble check.
Great video
just need to change valve cover gasket for oil leaking problem? no need to change whole valve cover assy?
Hi Brian, I am getting ready to do my valve Cover gasket on my 2007 BMW X5 4.8, Do you have any video or any materials / information you can send me to assist with doing this job, It would be greatly appreciated
could someone please tell me where i can find the part number or link so i can buy the foam that it remover from above the coil spark plugs 4:05
Fantastic detailed video. It’s a little more involved then the last valve cover gasket I installed (360 Mopar lol). Question, what’s a reasonable price I should pay a professional for this exact job?
Thanks!
If I remember right the labor time on this was between 3 1/2 and five hours. Most shops charge around $124-$150 a hour so I have a guesstimate around 600 and labor plus parts
@@HowtoAutomotive Thank you! BMW wants $1,100 but also recommend replacing valve cover itself for additional $500! My wives 2015 x5 has 130k. The tech says, yeah, at that mileage the heat will cause it to warp and crack. I guess it’s all wins for BMW, cheaper to manu, less weight for fuel Mil, and they have a continuing income stream replacing.
I really appreciate your video and your time.
my is x3 2012 .from where you bought your parts
Excellent
Thank you!
Hi Brian
😮How much does it cost
Thank
Just replaced my entire valve cover on n55 f15. Now It’s mixing fuel with oil. Very strong smell of fuel. But not a drip at the fuel rail.
Sounds like an injector stuck wide-open
These things are a hell to work on apparently, way too much little stuff to remove.
Cool😀
Do you need to remove the battery
Dude cover the top of that engine!
After completing the job I received a p10f5 code "Valvetronic Control Phase V Circuit Open" does anyone know how this can happen? I made sure the cam sensor was plugged back in
Do you recommend replacing the gasket or the whole cover? 2015 f15 104k miles.
Replace the whole cover, it's plastic they tend to warp a lot. Just save yourself the headache.
what pliers you used?
Does anyone know how much dealers / Indy shops would charge for this job?
Oh, one other thing. You may want to check your Amazon affiliate links. I used your links to build out a parts list in hopes you’d get a least something from how you’ve helped me. However, Amazon says parts not compatible with 2015 x5 xdrive 35i. Maybe Amazon’s system isn’t accurate, just wanted you to know if it was potentially hurting you potential compensation.
Thanks!!!
Thank you I’ll check into that thank you for watching!
I've ordered parts for other things and for other cars besides BMW, and Amazon did say it's incompatible. But I knew the exact size etc, and it was in fact compatible.
Soo yes sometimes Amazon parts compatibility can be off sometimes.
i. have this issue. but i do not notice any oil leaking that is causing a problem so i am leaving it alone
How many hours it takes?
Is it common for oil leaks from the valve cover for this year? My 2015 had 140k , I can smell burning oil, and see smoke but I have no oil spots on the floor.
Mine is doing this too 118k 2015, I want to go to the bmw but I don't know if it's expensive
did you fix yours?
@@heliveltonoliveira3816 I got the gasket kit. Going to start it next week.
I'm thinking of taking it to the BMW dealership.
Yes it’s your valve cover gasket, or your oil filter housing gasket.
Man I could not pull out that connector to the fuel injector. I have a feeling it will breaks.
What wrench do you use? Didn't find any less than 20 pounds:(
Husky make s a 1/4" torque wrench that I used on my 535. Works well.
Is this a very expensive service if you go directly to the BMW dealership?
Yes over 3k I've seen
How many hours this pay thanks
I believe this is a E70 Chasis
yousaf qamar this is a 2015 model so I’m pretty sure it’s the F15
How much do you torque the bolts to?
6ft lbs. For the valve cover bolts
6mm bolt/screw with 10mm head. A 10mm bolt would be more like a head bolt or ac bracket bolt
what would this job cost at a dealer?
I have a 2016 X5 3.5i F15 and a BMW dealership quoted me around $1,300.00 and another Mechanic BMW certified came in just a bit more than that.
I think u forgot the vacuum lines
Yes, it’s not the right idea to disassemble something over an open engine
Also YOU DON'T NEED ANY ADHESIVE ON THE GASKET
Thank you too much and adhesive came very handy
