It just reinforces that though it isn't a modern-day high powered rifle, the muzzleloader is still a formidable weapon. Regardless of era, war is never pretty.
I can only imagine how shockingly bloody the revolutionary era battlefield must have been- one second your comrade is standing there the next his head is gone, you're covered in his blood and bits of his skull and his brain is several feet away.
Nice job I couldn't imagine what some of the wounds would of looked like back then seeing what that would do to that head. Plus I love some of the comical remarks you made. Lol a red coat with a thick skull.
80gr is a rather light load for a military load with small ball (slightly compensated by using the whole in bore, rather than taking ~5 for priming). The historical load would have been a large grain powder at 150 gr, pushing a 1777 16.5mm ball or 1792 15.9mm ball.
That's a big ol' chunk of lead going downrange at a not-insignificant speed. So I kinda guessed it would be explosive, but that's really impressive. These things weren't just lethal, they were downright destructive.
If you get time, it would be interesting to see how a round ball does in the ballistics jelly for typical hunting loads. An example may be for .45 cal, 70 grains of 3F or .54 cal 90 grains of 2F, etc. Maybe you could get a deer target and stick the ballistics jelly behind it where the heart/lungs may be. Just a suggestion. I'm not saying the loads suggested would be what you'd use for deer hunting, etc. Use what you'd typically use. I think it would show folks how effective a round ball can be. I enjoyed this one, Ethan.
Nice. I’m pretty sure you would get similar results using either .54 or .58 smoothbore - the increased velocity would probably make up for the projectile weight difference?
Hmm! Me thinks I need to light mine off tomarrow! I have two ceramic busts I dumpster dove for! Just finished a bench test on a "reasonably fast?" batch of 1f, 2f & 3f Thanks for lighing my fuse! Keep your smoke Poles Smoking!!
Alright soldiers, get in a straight line and march forward. Don't mind all those muskets pointing at you. Good thing they didn't have UA-cam back then.
Read the battle of Kings Mountain many 1st hand accounts mentioning head shots very accurately showing how lethal muzzles loader’s are. To my fellow British re-actors the same can be said for Camden you can use a blue coat instead of a red one.
I've been wanting to get me a flintlock never owned one what would be a good flintlock rifle would you recommend for someone wanting to get a flintlock rifle. What I'm shooting now is a cva optima but I'm wanting to start using old school muzzleloader for hunting
If you are looking to start out, the Traditions models are a fine way to start. If you have some more clams to spend, InvestArms and Pedersoli are great ways to start.
A political figure once stated that a “9mm will blow the lungs out of the body…” While that was proven false, a 69 caliber will definitely remove the brain. 😂
I believe this to be an early Pedersoli reproduction, though I'm having trouble confirming. It has been slightly "de-farbed", and the manufacturers marks have been removed and the lock upgraded at some point in it's life.
So, a round that's roughly the size of a medium sized bowling ball pretty much liquified that dirty Redcoat's noggin? Yep, saw that comin'! 😂 Now you need to show us how effectively a Kentucky rifle can remove the powdered wig from a Redcoat officer dome, from up in a tree at 200 yards...you know, a right proper historical sniping!
He should get one of the gel torsos and see if he can give it a lungectomy with a musket. No Joe, 9mm won't do it but an unregulated flintlock will.... LOL.
Okay, l can see the reason for this. But head shots were not the first target point . And we should remember that not all who check out these videos are not 2a friendly . I am sad to think like this but it is what it is. But please keep up the good work. Maybe you can do a video on one of rendezvous that the NRLHF puts on. Thank you again.
Looks consistent with wounds suffered by US soldiers from war of 1812, repatriated in 1988 from an old battlefield near Fort Erie Ontario Memento mori…
Personally I liked the milk jugs better the other was a bit gruesome ! yes these guns would kill you quickly that's what they were made for ! far better than a 5.66MM they poke a nice hole but do not remove the part.... I prefure the bigger bores, but have only owned a 50cal I made a 1" black powder rifle I have hanging on my wall, un tested, and it will probably remain that way.... in guns bigger is better. but I can't figure out why you don't use more powder ? your rifle goes pow.... not KRACK like it should ...I can't remember but I think I used to shoot 220 grains of powder in my 50cal and it shot level at 1/4 mile....with open sights that was good enough for me ! just seeing that far is a problem for me now ! LOL
Hah love the redcoat jokes. After a video like this it's easy to see why a leg or arm shot from a Charlevilles could shatter bone and could lead to amputation.
"you can see, as a redcoat, he's got a thick skull" 🤣
Thanks for catching that!! 😅
@@ILoveMuzzleloading 😁 sucker for a pun!
You are correct about that.
You are correct about that.
Can you imagine the carnage on the battlefields that these weapons would leave?
Destructive. Hard to realize what those men went through time after time
It just reinforces that though it isn't a modern-day high powered rifle, the muzzleloader is still a formidable weapon. Regardless of era, war is never pretty.
Agreed, war is never pretty.
I can only imagine how shockingly bloody the revolutionary era battlefield must have been- one second your comrade is standing there the next his head is gone, you're covered in his blood and bits of his skull and his brain is several feet away.
Agreed a true horror.
Perfect representation of how much power the muskets really had!!
Makes my heart happy to hear and see a smoothie shooting well. I'm still on a self imposed smoothbore ban🤣 great stuff man, as always!
I love this thing, shot it all morning and it never broke a sweat. Need some practice at 100yds, but I’m looking forward to it
In the slow mo you can see the ball still going true to the next oppressor. Great video!
Thank you Richard!
One more time! As an electrician I approve of your Skull holder. Nice job Brother
Thank you Brett, it worked well! Might have to bring it back inside for some home improvement 😂
This is the greatest video you’ve ever posted 😂😂😂. I loved it! Please do this again in the future with other calibers!!
Thanks Gary, that’s some high praise !!
@@ILoveMuzzleloading I really enjoyed it man! The look on your face after the second shot was priceless 😂
I have the '63. Love my Charleville
Boy oh boy, talk about needing some Excedrin! Lol. Really like the smoothbores, just convincing me I REALLY NEED one! Thank you for that demo!
Man, everyone needs one! They are so much fun. Especially with these paper cartridges.
Fun video!
I would like to see what a .32 or .36 caliber rifle would do.
Definitely something I can plan for!
Your channel came up in my feed. This is the 1st of your content I have seen. Needless to say I am now subscribed.
You have good taste, welcome!
Great video ! absolutely love it , keep up the good work brother 👍
Thanks Dean! Good to hear from you.
🤣🤣🤣 "i don't know if they're puting him back together folks" YIKES!😬 awesome fun little video ethan! 👍👍👍
Thanks Uriah! Sometimes it’s fun to do something a little silly
That looked fun!
Dude, so fun
I thoroughly enjoyed this! Nice job man.
Thank you Major!
Nice job I couldn't imagine what some of the wounds would of looked like back then seeing what that would do to that head. Plus I love some of the comical remarks you made. Lol a red coat with a thick skull.
Thank you!
This was awesome!! Please do some more!Maybe different calibers, distances, long gun vs pistol? Smooth vs rifle? Great stuff, thank you!
Thank you, definitely saving up for another to test different things on
@@ILoveMuzzleloading If you run across a reproduction Walker, that would make a fantastic video too!

I miss my pedersoli 1816 Harpers ferry musket. I would like to see that same test done with buck and ball . Love those flintlocks!
Thanks Rifleman! I agree a buck and ball test would be cool.
Love the video, Ethan!
Thank you Nathan, a bit sillier than most I’ve done but fun none the less
That's a big ol' chunk of lead going downrange at a not-insignificant speed. So I kinda guessed it would be explosive, but that's really impressive. These things weren't just lethal, they were downright destructive.
Where did you find the red coat target?

That's how muzzle energy works yes
Great video, Ethan!
Thank you John
That was great . Thanks for sharing .
I see the electrical box gorget did not help him much. That be one dirt napping red coat!! Great video.
Thank you J!
Awsome, thank you
Thank you
Are there any contemporary medical documents describing wounds to different areas of the body.
Awesome job
Thank you Travis
Man I love all the Charlie's 😂
Hey Eathan where'd you get your red coat targets from?
Hmm! Me thinks I need to light mine off tomarrow! I have two ceramic busts I dumpster dove for!

Thanks for lighing my fuse!

Love to hear that Dave, keep me posted on the progress!!
Fine vid! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
great video
Thanks Garrett
I heard that some French muskets had enlarged touch hole and breech plugs with slanted face. Is that true for this musket?
Where did you get the paper target at
Love it! Absolutely devastating!
Thanks Mr. Beck!! keep up your great work!
Big Colonial Energy for sure 💪🏻
Thanks Tommy!!
Was it a .670 ball or a different size? How did you decide on that size of ball.?
He gone! lol Great video!
Thank you!
That was savage. Do it again Ethan. Lol. Very cool.
hahah! Thanks Jack!
Awesome!
Alright soldiers, get in a straight line and march forward. Don't mind all those muskets pointing at you. Good thing they didn't have UA-cam back then.
They were stronger than me that’s for sure
You cleared that Lobsterback's sinuses out!

No walking that one off!
Just a flesh wound
First shot: hmm i would have expected more
Second shot: yeah that's pretty much what I thought would happen
Yeah I goofed that first one, luckily the target had nerves of steel
I love your videos. The only smoke pole videos I like more are Capandball's & Hickock's.
You surely understand!
Dude, I like them more than me so of course I understand!
You Tube is going to be mad at you for this one.
Wouldn't he have a hat on and would that make a little different just curious
No difference, the hat would likely fall off
awesome
A political figure once stated that a “9mm will blow the lungs out of the body…” While that was proven false, a 69 caliber will definitely remove the brain. 😂
"A .69 caliber round ball moves faster than any other bullet" 🤣🤣
Great video! Who made your musket? I've been looking for a nice repro for a while and was curious if yours was an older repro? Thanks!

Crazy. I'm glad we are on the same side. Lol .Good shooting.
We have to stick together

wow that made a mess
Wish there were grizz ballistic jell skulls lol 50 cal hawken test
Oh man, I'd be all over that!
Yeehaw! Let freedom ring.
Amen!!
Lol all them 7s messin with ya. Well done lol

Cool
The literal definition of “gettin’ domed” 😅
The chances of getting domed by a redcoat are low, but never 0
I hunt Prairie Dogs with a 22LR and now I want to try hunting them with this musket.
Might just blow them out of the hole
Making a story where a five year old kid has part of his head blown off by a musket. Watched this for research. Thanks.
That would be more fun to shoot than milk jugs! Well done Ethan!
Thanks Mark! Appreciate it
Now joebama will be on the news wanting to ban muskets. It blows the brain, right out of the body🤷🏻♂️😂

Fun OH YA
And to think that all of that carnage started over taxation that was less than 2%. Oh my, what they would have to say about the state of things today.
Things have changed quite a bit.
This thing is more powerful than a shotgun
Its basically a 12ga shotgun slug
👍
He will walk it off
Im surprised that such an ancient weapon will kill modern human beings.
trust me he can still fight
I would have chosen a pumpkin, this is to violent
I hope it brings some thought about the horrors of war to the viewers, and the sacrifices made by people through the ages.
Pro tip. Next time get the green filled zombie parts. UA-cam has some issues with the red parts.
Definitely a great point, thanks!

9mm may blow the lungs right out (let's go Brandon) but that's nothing compared to revolutionary war era muskets! 😂
Muzzleloaders are the best loaders
