Rover SD1 V8 engine strip down

- Part 1 of a mini series of the strip down and then rebuild of a Rover V8 engine from a 1985 Rover SD1 Vanden Plas EFI.
In this video i pulled the engine apart, down to a bare block and made a quick visual inspection of the parts and their condition.
The next few videos are of me putting it all back together.

Hi Buddy. Your channel reminds me so much of me mad my mates back in the late 70s fixing up our motors lol 😂 We had cars like triumph 2.5 PI's Dolomite sprints for Granadas MK2 Volvo 164s etc. Take care love the videos cheers Stevie.

Saw a beautiful SD1 last week on churt road. To think I rebuilt one of these engines and dropped it into a Ford Capri back in the 80s

The motor is pretty clean
I was real impressed actually. Think it was 110,000 miles. It was owned by a mechanic and you can kind of tell. Think it had fairly regular oil changes. It then sat in in the car on a drive in south London for about 20 years, then i got given it for free.

ps. make up a frame and cover it with plastic, and place it over both open rear doors,to give you a drier working area at the rear of the van. 🤔
It was actually really nice inside. Crank ended up having a light grind, nothing major. Valve guides were ok. Heads had a skim and new valves and springs.

Funny wear on the engine with the bottom end bearings and the odd cam lobe... oil problem somewhere ?

Another SD1, did I miss this ones introduction (I stopped watching the bubble videos last year when you were pretty frustrated with it, and I only watch a few of the Van videos, so if you did an intro to the VDP EFi on one of them I would have missed it)!! You know some of us are still trying to find just one! Good to see you saving so many, keep up the videos! What is the SD1 fleet now? Police Car, Drift Car, 2400SD turbo, TP Vitesse, Dotty (sold), S1.5 VDP and now VDP Efi. Did I miss any?
A Vanden Plas EFI lovely car does it have the leather interior.
It will. Original is pretty much scrap, but think i have enough bits to make one real nice interior

I actually sold it before Christmas and the guy changed the gearbox and clutch, used it for a while and has just sold it on again. So its doing well. All this was filmed a while ago.
My father just made do with Slick 50 lol
