  • Morph is a concept demonstrating some of the possibilities nanotechnologies might enable in future communication devices. Morph can sense its environment, is energy harvesting and self cleaning .
Morph is a flexible two-piece device that can adapt its shape to different use modes. Nanotechnology enables to have adaptive materials yet rigid forms on demand.
It is also featured in the MoMA online exhibition "Design and the Elastic Mind". It has been a collaboration project of Nokia Research Center and Cambridge Nanoscience Center.

I don't care that people think this is impossible to pull off, I think the ambition and forward-thinking behind this concept is what truly elevated it for me.
It left a lasting impact that even they attempted to replicate some aspects unsuccessfully with the flexible concept devices.

Don't get ahead of yourself though, this particular phone/computer is driven by mini nano robots that makes the whole phone function.
The principles and rules of this particular hardware is totally different, likely not a phone based on morris Law..
Regarding the technology in this particular phone is many years off because we don't have nano robots and small nano computers that fits into a formfactor.
The Samsung fold is simply the beginning of the folding age of electronics.

2010 Revenue = €51 Billion so more than half revenue lost in 6 years.
      26th Oct 2007 Nokia share price = €27.64
      28th Sep 2016 Nokia share price = €5.08 a decline of 82% share value in 9 years!
If we then look at say a less innovative company lets take chinese mobile firm Huawei
      2010 Revenue: $27.36 billion
      2015 Revenue: $60.1 billion (up 35% from 2014)
So who's doing pretty good now then??? and this is Nokia who were leaders in the world of Mobile and now are being dwarfed by even Chinese company that was tiny when Nokia were dominating. Nokia is now an empty shell of its former self.

thetaz00 Dont get me wrong, I grew up with Nokia phones when I was 13 I remember everyone in my class having a Nokia 3310 or a 3210 it just changed everything. We used to play Snake all day in class. We loved those phones. Its just a shame the company didn't invest in the right areas, the bosses got to lazy and comfortable. They lacked the vision. That's why Apple took the crown, and they had no experience in making phones they were making computers. The bosses of Nokia didn't understand the consumer of tomorrow, just like BlackBerry, look at them today...

    • @hemednassor9334

revenue did drop because they sell two departments
      -nokia mobile phone department
      -here maps
but now Nokia is acquiring again
      -withings
      -Alcatel lucent
for example in 2015 alcatel revenue were 14.3b euro, plus those 27b from Nokia networks you get around 41b euro
and dont forget nokia technologies are doing well, they are almost 1 billion business after new licencing deal with samsung,
probably upcoming financial nokia wont be profitable, but after restructuring and lay off nokia+alcatel will be bigger player than Huawei.

This is a millenial driven market guys. Nokia lost out as celebrities from Kanye West to Kim Kardashian all had iPhones and millenial consumers like sheep went and bought them. Until Nokia make a phone that is fashionable then they have no chance of keeping with the likes of Samsung or Apple or even Google now. Nokia are best advised to stick with corporate consumers.

it's NEVER gonna happen. Reasons :
Flexible and transparent processors, RAMs, and batteries ? I don't think so. Now we have flexible batteries but it's almost impossible to make them transparent.
A material that is hydrophobic, can absorb light and turn it into electricity, flexible AND transparent all at the same time ? You gotta be kidding me.
Plus the idea of tearing a part of the tablet and turning it into a wireless headset or a watch is very fictional, and is also impossible.

Go back 10 years man, and then 20 years, then 30.. think of the insane progression of technologies we have already seen. Future technologies will look like impossible magical things that couldn't be. Yes, nanotech being implemented like this is far off, but it will likely happen sooner than any of us might expect. But give 30 years to it? I don't think any of us can truly say what will happen in such a time frame.

The answer to the iPhone came out one year later and they were the uber-crappy 5800 Xpress Music and N97, that could have been the worst flagships that Nokia ever produced.

This is what we call sick technology. Computers become faster all the time, and they get more storage. But they dont really perform new functions, so you dont call new computers a revolution. The morph really looks like a practical revolution, and i hope we'll see it being released somewhere in the next 20 years...
    -
and 20 years should actually be enough time to realize this, given the fact that something like the iPad was unimaginable as short as 10 years ago.

well, if you think about how current cameras take photos - the image is made up of pixels, the picture is a copy of the differences of light and dark in the many pixels, and when you view it, the camera electronically displays the differences of light and dark from when you took the picture. So, if the Morph is made up of millions of little independent electronic 'cells', each one can recognise the light/dark/colour etc, and combine it all to make a picture you took. Hope that makes sense :)

@Forget00 I dont fully agree. Speaking about processors in this case. A 40nm processor is more efficient then a 65nm processor because it doesn't generate as much heat. Thus more energy goes to processing then generating heat. I'm no scientist but I do work on becoming an engineer. And maybe(speculating) the efficiency is greater the smaller the processor becomes. And that would mean that the processor wouldn't need the extra power to process at the desired speed because of low heat generation.

Do you mean the last option? I think it just might take a picture and then create a pattern of the image to fit into the shape of the phone, and then just mimic it onto the surface. Could be done. Also a huge use in military technology. as in you could have a tent that mimics the surrounding surface grass, sand, dirt, snow etc.

Nano technology is the market of the future. Nokia is trying to gain control of that market and it is if I were in the technology market I would have to say this is the way to go. They actually are talking about how inexpensive nanotechnology is, so that once it has been developed it may cost less than what we purchase now. But, until the rest of the market catches up then they will be able to charge anything they want for it.
