These two little amps got some of the finest clean sounds I've gotten to hear, and very nice sounding drive too. I can actually see that doing that even rather high gain stuff. AND an attenuetor that actually works like it's meant to. Judging from the video, these are just brilliant.
Anyone else keep replaying that tasty jam at the start? I've listened to it about 10 times now... I had to go and grab my guitar and jam along. You guys are becoming my favourite musicians.
I really miss these sessions with Mick and Pete. I used to fast forward through the gear talk just to hear them play. RIP Guitar Paradiso. I still have That Pedal Show.
I have the Falcon Grande, it has a serious amount of variation in tones. It takes a bit of time to bed down with it but its like having 3 separate amps. Use both the High and Low - they do change the character.
I have one of the Mk II and it's amazing clean or screaming on the lead channel. I leave mine on the lead channel with it at 10 and control the sound from the guitar's volume. It'll go from very clean and clear to singing. I swapped the tubes to some good vintage tubes and it sounds even better. My amp tech says it's his favorite amp and recommends Tone King to everyone wanting a boutique amp because of this amp.
@@8sigreg What tubes did you put in? I upgraded speaker in my Imperial MKII to alnico Celestion Ruby. Amazing vintage sound, with rounder high end!! Awesome amp!!
Great demo! I upgraded my Imperial MKII with Celestion Ruby alnico speaker. Amazing results: pure vintage sounds and a bit shimmered high end - just perfect!!! Pushed with Revival Compact drive I can get all the sounds I always had in my head. Yes its expensive , but inspires me to play/practice everyday - no matter what! Great value for me!!
After watching this video and a few others, I am now the proud owner of a Falcon Grande. This video and the one featuring the PRS S-2 Vella. Currently I have the Falcon Grande paired with a Fender Princeton Reverb or a Deluxe Reverb. If I lived in the UK I would have gladly made my way to Andertons, but alas if I'm lucky, I may see you guys at Summer NAMM 2019.
+Andertons Music Co what do a pair of crocs and getting a BJ from a man have in common? They both feel great till you look down and realise its gay....
Just beautiful tones from these two as usual. I wonder what rig would make them sound pants. Once again Andertons has increased my "one day when I have the cash" list of must buys
I've had two Tone King amps: an Imperial MKII and a Falcon Grande. I eliminated both of them from my collection. Though they have some great tones and the Iron Man II attenuator is terrific, I experienced quality problems that are unacceptable in an amp in the $2,000 price range, among them: the Treble control on the Imperial stopped working when the amp was about 6 months old, and the Falcon Grande had an awful rattle (speaker or cabinet, not sure which) when playing the low E string at any volume higher than about 4 (this when the amp was brand new, right out of the box). Also, I had purchased these amps in pursuit of something with a lot of clean headroom. In my experience, and contrary to conventional wisdom on Tone Kings, neither of these amps came anywhere close to filling that space: they both started into a natural tube breakup anywhere north of about 3 on the volume control (and this with a Telecaster and a Stratocaster). A beautiful natural overdriven tone, to be sure, but that certainly didn't match the marketing on these amps and was not what I was seeking.
Time for an Anderton's "backing track" playlist. Guaranteed to give you and additional 50k subs in short order. But, rather than simply providing the tracking, detail the equipment, key, chord progression and strumming pattern...then let 'r rip.
I've never seen two guitarists' playing compliment eachother as beautifully as Mick and Pete's. Everyone says it but I would totally buy any album they put out.
Both amps are rated at 20 watts...but at the end of the video there were comments to the effect that the Imperial Mk II has more clean headroom. What would account for that?
They both sound amazing! I'm in the market for something new and I've been considering the Imperial, using the clean sound, an overdriven rhythm and a pedal or two in front for leads. When you do a fair number of function gigs and you need to get a variety of sounds you need something versatile with a good clean sound. I get the impression from what Mick & Pete were saying at the end that this wouldn't be the best amp for that? Ie that putting pedals in front of it wouldn't be the best use for it?
Terrific sounds from great gear but obviously it comes at a cost. Great playing as always from you both. Take it even Tone King haven't worked out a way to make the tubes last if the attenuator is used mostly ....?
Amazing intro guys....! Been sitting here with my Ditto X2 Looper this afternoon trying to somehow replicate - nope ;-)!! Will keep trying though. BTW love the Tone King's!
I've been looking at milkman amps for a while, but the imperial seems to have so many more useful features, like the 2 channels and attenuator. It's almost as if you'd have to A/B two different milkman amps to get the same range of tones as the imperial
You guys ought to do a comparison between the Tone King Falcon and the Morgan PR12, similarl specs so it would be interesting to hear how they sound side by side
These are awesome amps. The attenuator is great. But In Australia they are close to $4000 if you can actually find one. I think we have 3 for sale in the entire country. $40000!!! Twice the price of say a similar fender amp. You can buy two really good different amps for that.
+wutnot It's Iron Maiden! :) This is almost identical to the quiet part from the song "Revelations" from Piece of Mind ("Just a babe / In a black abyss..." -- that part). But I'm guessing it's just a coincidence.... Or...is it?
Has Pete ever uploaded any of his loops onto Tc Electronics site (im assuming he`s still using the ditto looper) ? is it something he would consider doing?
i bought the Imperial MKII from Andertons last year on 9 months interest free credit, check your finance options where ever you live, you may be surprised!
Dick Taylor tries his hardest to make him sound bad you just watched when he picked up the dozen Burg Pete has that look on his face keeps looking at Dick Taylor and is it's about ready to say something hes he sets it up in the worst possible tone and Pete still makes it sound good he goes another step further and you look at pete's facial expressions But Pete still makes it sound good even even with the ridiculous vibration historiculus vibrato disruption disruption we love you Pete!!!!! You are the man
I have an Imperial Mk II and a Sky King, both with the Ironman II attenuator. For most places I run the attenuation one stop down from full volume to avoid ear fatigue on stage and in the audience. Full volume is an additional 3db louder, which isn’t a lot but it’s enough to be tiring after a couple hours. And, there’s barely any difference in the sound at that point, except for the volume. I run on the lead channel on full volume, tone and mid-bite at noon, 99% of the time and control my volume from the guitar. All my guitars have treble-bleed caps so they clean up beautifully then scream when I go to to full volume on the guitar. They’re everything I’ve ever wanted in an amp. The amps sound incredible with single-coils and humbuckers. This is a good demo but doesn’t come close to the sound of the amps cranked live when you’re standing in front of them.
Don't care for Fender guitars usually but you two (especially Pete!) really get the best out of them and the amps. I despise Strats normally, but those clean bluesy tones with reverb are just lush. The Duesenberg is just gorgeous, though!
Gregory Blain I should clarify I really cannot play, but as someone who takes an interest in all musical instruments from a mechanical perspective, I had a tinker on a Strat and I found it really thin, flimsy and tinny. It didn't feel well-built and it sounded thin and dead. The bolt-in neck felt like a cheapskate bodge compared to the set-in neck of a really gorgeous old '335 I had a tinker on at the same time, which was just so much louder at full whack, had massively more breadth of tone, dynamic range and natural sustain and was just a magnificently-made instrument in every way. The one thing was, it fed back insanely easily, which I could imagine would be a pain in some styles. So, when I have the time and money for guitar lessons, I'm going to treat myself to my dream guitar, a Gibson Lucille.
The PRS CE are maple neck and bolt on. You can get the "older ones" very very reasonably priced on eBay and the such. However it is all about the feel of the guitar. Believe me, I wanted a new CE 24 but was reasonable enough to try out a load of other guitars including strat, PRS Standard and so on. I ended up with the PRS Vela because it is very playable and ergonomic, has sustain for days, does not feedback like a hollow body, it is incredibly lightweight, and the tuning pegs make it stay absolutely spot on in tune throughout the day, which is something no gibson Tuners will give you. Anyway, I'm not trying to sway you, just think - or should I say, play - outside the box. Because it is all in the playability.
You guys are great but you spent too much time demoing the attenuators. I wish you would spend more time dialing in the actual tone of the amps, especially the Imperial MkII.

That jam was so inviting I walked away from my computer and picked up my guitar. Doesn't get better than that. Thanks.
I did the same. No better compliment.
northof50now haha me too.
Beauty brings beauty. Joy brings joy.
I seriously never heard a bad Tone King amp. They all sound so sweet and amazing. Not really my style, but those amps just sing.
Yeah, no matter how you turn the knobs they sound amazing
thanks. they sound amazing. will buy one pretty soon.
Anyone else keep replaying that tasty jam at the start? I've listened to it about 10 times now... I had to go and grab my guitar and jam along. You guys are becoming my favourite musicians.
Man I am in love with that tele!
I really miss these sessions with Mick and Pete. I used to fast forward through the gear talk just to hear them play. RIP Guitar Paradiso. I still have That Pedal Show.
I haven't been following this channel closely, so was just wondering, what happened to this show? Why did they stop making it?
It's always great to see one musician taking joy in another's playing...
Sorry, good demo but I really struggled to hear the amps over Mick's shirt
WHAT?
That’s what all the Hawaiians wear.
Just put an attenuator on his shirt. ;)
@@GregStraub42 As in its "loud" which is a phrase that describes when something is very noticeable.
It'd be sick if we could get some lessons from Pete! Or Mick! Or both! Great players!
I have the Falcon Grande, it has a serious amount of variation in tones. It takes a bit of time to bed down with it but its like having 3 separate amps. Use both the High and Low - they do change the character.
The Imperial, is litterally heaven. My absolute favorite sounding 1x12 clean amp.
I have one of the Mk II and it's amazing clean or screaming on the lead channel. I leave mine on the lead channel with it at 10 and control the sound from the guitar's volume. I have a grande. It’s changed what I play and I really love it.
I'm starting to judge amps by the tone King standard
I could actually listen to these two playing all day. Keep up the brilliant reviews guys!
That intro gave me goose bumps. Just beautiful.
Great demo! I upgraded my Imperial MKII with Celestion Ruby alnico speaker. Amazing results: pure vintage sounds and a bit shimmered high end - just perfect!!! im looking to get this...does it beat a great fender princeton or delux?? thanks
That opening Jam! WOW

Gents, as beautiful playing as ever. I'm still waiting for the album to be released.
I'm of the opinion that Danish Pete is the best guitarist I've ever heard
+Rhod Williams it's because of the Crocs. Buy a pair & you'll become just as good ;)
+Andertons Music Co what do a pair of crocs and getting a BJ from a man have in common? They both feel great till you look down and realise its gay....

totally agree
u havent hear shit then
Genius. Thank you. The dusenberg and the imperial are a match made in heaven.
Staggeringly beautiful intro jam. Good lads.
What a great demo! That amp really warms it's name. Not just an amp, it's a great tube amp + attenuator + reverb + tremolo + Fender + Marshall.
I don't even want to know how much 2K pounds are but it'd way more than I'll ever have to Shell out on an amp.
Outdo as well!
Great amps, I just got the mk 2, amazing sounds. Tone King amps are on a whole 'nuthu' level
Just beautiful tones from these two as usual. I wonder what rig would make them sound pants. Once again Andertons has increased my "one day when I have the cash" list of must buys
Why would you want to make "sound pants" for your amp???
the falcon grande kept reminding me of a TV we used to have back in the day
Damn I love these guys! Great humor and AWESOME playing. Keep up the good work.
There really should be a video compilation of their jams. I'd have it on repeat. Forever.
Great demo and Jam, brilliant. Mark Knopfler can use anything and he uses Tone King, says it all really.

Great playing from both of you and an intelligent, thoughtful review. Great stuff.
I would LOVE to hear some more of that opening tune. I know it was just a jam... but that was a beautiful piece of music.
Pete is FULL BLOWN DI CAPRIO in this one... It's the Wolf Of Toneking.
Awesome work guys. Great playing and review of these two amazing amps.
These guys should do more reviews. This is the best amp review I've ever seen !
Both of you have such great vibrato, always timed to what you are playing. The gears good too...
Good to see your moving on from Chapman demos. He was getting old.
Too right
great having two guys present who aren't tragic pricks
Every tube amp should come with an attenuator built in or come shipped with one. Thank you Tone King and Orange.

Dos anyone know what scale they were using in the jam at the start of the video? Minor Blues?
+Chris Clarke - looks like a C major pentatonic by Pete's opening riff loupe.
Just wish they would stop noodling around and make an album, even a single so I can spend my money on some good music.

+Richard Harold how about a PRS Vela?
Thor PRSs look nice, but I personally prefer the classic semi-hollow thing. Some PRSs are bolt-in neck too, aren't they?
The PRS CE are maple neck and bolt on. You can get the "older ones" very very reasonably priced on eBay and the such. However it is all about the feel of the guitar. Believe me, I wanted a new CE 24 but was reasonable enough to try out a load of other guitars including strat, PRS Standard and so on. Anyway, I'm not trying to sway you, just think - or should I say, play - outside the box. Because it is all in the playability.
