This is a great story. Lest anyone think this is a "young adult only" alternative, let me say my husband is 75yrs old, my mother is 83 yrs old, and l am 65yrs old. We bought 6acs in the Ozarks and are completely off gird. No running water, we use rain catchment, composting toilet, putting in solar, and use wood heat. It is a WONDERFUL way to live.
@@smueller12244 Thank you Stephen, that was a ki d and generous thing to say. Many of our friends and acquaintances think er are certifiably crazy, maybe, but we are so much happier.
The house is absolutely charming, and I think it's the rawness of the build that is part of its charm. It doesn't have a finished look but it's clean and I can see the care put into it. I love that phrase "living lightly" and I admire people who have the courage and conviction to do it.
What a sweet & down to earth couple. It's not what's in the home or how it's built it's the love & gratefulness that's inside of it that makes it a real home. I think it's very cozy & natural. Love seeing these stories!!
If youtube had been around when I was their age, I would have been drawn to their lifestyle. Not necessarily what they do to make a living, but living free of mortgages and high rents. I think slowly but surely a movement is growing among young people to do just that as they see the ever escalating prices of either buying or renting leaving them with very little disposable income to enjoy the things in life which make life worth living. My generation grew up wanting every convenience that came down the pike and striving to getting bigger and better and that was a never ending pursuit and life was passing us by. Everyone needs a place to call home and that shouldn't cost an arm or a leg during the best part of their lives and looking to retirement so they can finally enjoy life. I encourage young people to shun the rat race and make life worth living while you are living. Go get em.
I'm 24 and my goal is to have a nonprofit permaculture/sustainable farm that people can come live on for free by the time I'm 30 ♥️ in college right now and searching for land! There is a bright future ahead of us!
Love your story and beautiful cabin. Honestly don't change when you have a kid, as a Mother of two boys this is the best way to live and raise well rounded, nature respecting and resilient kids :)
Hooray for toaster ovens! I donated my conventional oven to Habitat for Humanity and have just used a toaster oven for years. For one or two people, it's plenty. A very inspiring story; thank you for sharing it.
I have used a toaster oven for decades...the one I got maybe 12-13 years ago is also convection and cooks much faster. Love it. Never use a regular oven!
It's so interesting that really this is rediscovered knowledge and skills, the way humans have had to live for thousands of years. Love that folks like Luke and Meg are making the courageous move to trust it's possible. They contribute to the knowledge base that can help so many others. And Luke, LOVE the tunes! Thanks to all!
I got so many positive vibes from this video, must be inspirational to youngsters who are going to start out, I felt like coming up with the energy to achieve something similar and I am not young anymore.
Seeing young people like this really restores my faith in humanity. IDK why so many boomers say genz/millennials are lazy. I suppose they said that about us genXers too. I think it might be we define success differently. Which I think is a really good thing, because the direction the way things were going was absolutely unsustainable; I pray it's not too late.🙏✌️🥰
This is my dream for a long time, too. I am a tree hugger, and have been trying to learn farming (small and big scale) by watching a lot of videos here on youtube. You will inspire a lot of people with what you are doing. And what you are doing is wonderful. Thank you both for sharing. Regards from uptown Canada.
Love this! And beautiful music, Luke! I made myself an outdoor shower and love it. You're making a wonderful lives for yourselves. Just add to the space when baby shows up. This is the best life for raising a child!
This is not living in a tiny cabin, it’s actually living in a tiny cabin, a separate tiny outhouse, and a tiny studio. This couple seems very nice/sweet, charming and down-to-earth.
Think about an air fryer, it is really a convection oven for two. It is the best appliance I hav e ever purchased. Anything you can cook in an oven you can cook in an air fryer, plus more. I have an instant vortex +, no odor, great appliance. Good homestead.
These videos are great. They show another side of people who want to lessen their footprint on the planet, but maybe don't have the resources / desire / knowledge... to live completely off grid. Kudos to anyone who has a vision and sees it through to fruition!
Besides the wonderful cabin and the shows purpose to showcase the cabin; this couple’s relationship was a thing of beauty… what a wonderful example of love. Mahalo for the video.
I love the water, love boats, and have always wanted to live on a sailboat, but because of my weight it was no possible. I Weighed over 650 LBS, and was in a wheelchair most of the time. That was 3 years ago. TODAY is different. I have now lost 400 Lbs and I'm starting the journey of look for a live-aboard sailboat. I am so excited. My Dream is finally going to come ture!
I remember growing up just like this and now that I'm at the age that I'm at, I am so done with the city and I want to go home. Mahalo ( thanks) for sharing your moments, coming to You from Honolulu, Hawaii 🤙
So wholesome and beautiful! The only thing I would change is the bathroom, it sounds awful on winter, but other than that DAMN this is great! I'll love to do it some day!
Lovely couple. Cute house. I am just concerned about all the unpainted wood on the exterior, as plywood disintegrates fast when exposed to moisture. It might have a coat of polyurethane i can't see, but that needs to be reapplied every other year. Painting the wood lasts much, much longer. There's environmentally safer paint with low or no VOCs. Go with a brown color if you want the feel/look of natural wood. And lastly, Satin or Semigloss sheen on wood lasts FAR longer and repels water much better than Flat sheen, which is typical on houses. Good luck!
I was noticing that. I think that, being people with a good sense of aesthetics and love of natural materials, it will not be long before they find or make some natural old-style long shingles and cover all the plywood with them.
My favourite part of the video is the perspective at 0:28 where the stove looks huge but it’s actually tiny…it’s so cute! I love seeing these off the grid videos. One day I hope to have an independent income so I can just go camping forever 🥰
Very imaginative and smart persons. Love this way of living without spending too much money . They are almost if not totally self sufficient. Things may changed with a child… Love the little stove and the place is so neat and inviting. Nice music too! Thanks for that nice visit..
This is wonderful! and, I wish they had shown a little bit more about the construction... the different aspects Incorporated to make it an insulated and healthy space, even it's a simple approach.
I loved this so much! Everyone's version of an ideal life/living situation is different and so much of the time people get wrapped up in the popular narrative of wanting 'more' and 'bigger=better' so it's super important to go inward and ask yourself 'What is my ideal living situation?' and work towards that. And they are such a lovely couple! I love that she helps people with anxiety because I do too and that work is so important 💛
You may not be a skilled carpenter in your mind, but your ideas are amazing and they work. Just like in any art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I would so live there! Love what you have created and think it is beautiful. I love the drawers under the cabin!
Nice ! Reminds me a lot of when i was younger. LOVE the music ! We could all utilize learning how to "eat to ease anxiety" and gut health ! Well done folks !
Savaged materials, natural cabin…economical, functional and close to nature living. Great to have a separate quarter/studio. Possibly closer restroom? Love Luke’s music and environmental activism. Thanks for sharing their inspirational story.
Hi from India!! Lovely home.. @11.53 noticed the use of stone grinder.. being from the south of India, we use this a lot for grinding lentil batters. I am curious to know what she uses it for!
I enjoyed hearing their story and loved hearing Luke sing. This is a great lifestyle and it is achievable for anyone who is able-bodied. However, if you are physically disabled and you suffer from chronic pain then the most you can hope for is low income housing. Of course you have to be able to keep up with state inspections as well as quarterly pest control and let's not forget the quarterly owners inspections too. At my age (64) I have had enough of this lifestyle for the past 11 years. Now I think I will probably live in my jeep and low income housing can go screw itself. As you age out your body changes and you can only tolerate what you are able to bear. Pain is not easy to tolerate when you get older. Fewer responsibilities are better.
Hello my friend, this is probably one of the best ones that you ever put out. I’m always fascinated with young people and how y’all live your life. Stay thirsty my friends.
Lovely house and couple. I would store food in moisture and insect/rodent proof stackable containers. One mouse or shrew can chew through a large chunk of money, otherwise. Suprising amount of white sugar for a nutritionist. Enjoyed your music. TFS

Wow wish I could live off grid too but with me on dialysis it mayve quite difficult!
Kathie you sound so cool and I mean that sincerely

I like seeing small homes that are a bit more “realistic” in the approach of building something cheap while being so cozy !!
Totally agree. This isn’t a $100k tiny home that we still can’t afford, it’s a $10-20k tiny house most of us can realistically aspire to afford.
totally agree, also its structurally sound and legal to build unlike most "alternatives"
this one looks more like a shack but probably didn't cost a lot. We used to build small houses on 8x16 foot trailers for 8 grand (all materials)
🤩😘😘 i feel your thoughts, I totally agree with you..

*clean as in clean lines not to imply that other home-made builds are "dirty"
Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful.
This is how we feel watching your wonderful video....thanks for sharing dear!!!

That's why it's important to have people telling stories like that. Inspired people are the ones who are going to make a change

Me too - I love my toaster oven so much I want to get rid of my conventional oven.
What about craft clay? I hear it doesn't have a happy ending in a toaster oven. Lol.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 I can't see what difference it would make. It's still an oven - just smaller.

Nice! We need more of this honesty and simplicity!
I love watching these. We live off grid on Cape Breton Island. Built ourselves. It's amazing to have a much deeper feeling with your land.
nice to see she seems so excited like a little girl playing dollhouse.. cute. happy for her.
Wise beyond their years. They seem like they are loving their lives and each other.

Bhai gaon jaao apne aur ye zindagi jiyo 🤭
Awesome job on ur cabin build. Suggestion paint or cover the plywood outside before it rots or gets moldy
Or salvaged plastic siding would be easy to find and do a good job against the elements
The Japanese method of charring the wood would be great too, if this is possible with plywood. No chemicals needed.
