While listening I noticed myself beginning to check off all the steps of hosting I missed:
    Didn't greet at the door
    Forgot to offer desserts
    Didn't make coffee (don't know how 😊)
Didn't give a tour of the house
    And so on.
However, I realized that this was my "first" time hosting without my mom's assistance, and I think I did okay. Definitely made enough food, gave my guest options for entertainment (games/touring the barn/seeing my chickens/conversation 😄. And I definitely saw them off as they left, waving goodbye, and standing outside til they were out of sight. Waving goodbye is a tradition passed down from my great grandmother, who would also blow you a kiss as you were driving away 🥰 my siblings and I used to fight later about who actually caught the blown kiss 😄
I've got a lot to learn about being a better hostess, but that's why I'm here.
Thank you for your wholesome and honest videos, great tips (part 1 & 2), and I can't wait for more! Thank you!

Honestly to me it sounds like you did super well!:) awe, that story about your grandma was so precious! And so sweet because as kids all six of us would gather on the porch as well and wave as our grandparents disappeared down the driveway.
You sound like such a thoughtful person!❤️ thank you for taking the time out of your day to write this comment!💕

I'm still learning too, and I ask people to give me feedback. One person didn't like that I only had bar soap in the bathroom and would rather liquid soap. Another person said I needed to have ice. I'm also learning that people don't want to accept anything extra if it seems like you're going out of your way, like another cup of tea or toast. So now I know to put ice water on a pitcher in the center of the table so no one has to ask, and for the tea drinker, have a 2-cup pot available. Girls sometimes want to know where to put their purse. They all like knowing when it is over, and we all decide together if and how long the visit will go over time. Mine are usually 3 hours. Dinner, game that goes unfinished, dessert to take home.

I always greet my guests with a high pitched squeal (I'm always excited to see them!) as they're making their way up the side walk followed by a huge hug! Then I ask if they need help carrying anything in.
    I really enjoy your videos!

Wow thanks for the awkward part of the night. That is the part that I'm really stressed about. The dessert idea is a really good one.

May I ask what podcasts you were referring to?
Also ... what are you burning in the white pottery and also on the little wooden tray? Those are the first things that caught my eye!

I used to love standing on my porch and waving goodbye to my guests as they drive off. However, these days, they like to sit in their vehicles and look at their devices before they leave. Sometimes that can take a while. Then, it just becomes awkward watching them. Does that happen with you?

I think it’s good to list the ingredients of any food you serve or even have them written out instead of just saying them. Also have at least one genuinely filling thing, that’s not salad, that anyone could eat no matter what their dietary restrictions or allergies are.

Hi lady, the quote you recited is it by you or it has a different author? I would like to use it on a sign in my home, but I want to credit the author

    • @BecauseitMatters
      @BecauseitMatters  3 роки тому

It is from an author, I believe their name is Jani Ortlund.
