Last night I bought a 2006 400. Hard starting, high idle and won't shift into gear cause of the high idle. After trying to turn down the idle, it backfired and now won't even start. I was thinking it was a carb problem, and after watching this video I do think it is the problem. Going to clean the carb tomorrow. We will find out. Thank you

Thanks for watching and your comment. The idle jet was completely solid from deposits and that sounds exactly how this one was acting. Good luck and hope you get it running good after cleaning it up. Have a great day and be safe!

what about the air/fuel mixture screw and its proper adjustment

Hi, thanks for watching and your comment. The screw should be out from fully seated between 1-2 turns. My understanding is the factory setting is 1-3/4 out. Have a great day and be safe.

Why would you not replace the rubber gasket just for assurance of a good seal? Or go through the entire carb for that matter while you already had it out?

Thanks for watching and your comment. I cleaned the carb without replacing any parts. My experience is the most common cause is the idle jet clogging up. If you need to replace many parts a Chinese carb from Amazon or Ebay may be the better way to go. YMMV thanks again and have a great day, be safe!

Also, if trash got past the the factory gas filter which is located in the gas tank would it not be advisable to place another filter inline between the gas tank & the carb or between the gas tank & the vacuum operated gas valve diaphragm that's under the seat?
