Overhauling a bank of four carburetors requires a high degree of patience, but to also film the procedure takes it to a different level. Through the years I have serviced several sets of similar carbs and while watching your carb videos I could feel your pain. Fiddly is a word not often used in the US, but I can see how it applies here and I'm going to start using it. I liked your technique on aligning the float bowl O-rings in place and the fuel level gauge template you made. So simple, but more importantly they get the job done. I've used aftermarket carburetor repair kits and and have run across the same problems you did, very frustrating when the parts don't fit. I always enjoy and learn from your videos, books and the information you provide.

They are definitely fiddly Ron and it is good to hear that I am not the only one who struggles with some of the aftermarket stuff! Sadly here in the UK there was not a lot of choice, so I hope my mix and match approach works out, no doubt time will tell.

Hi there, I've just restored a SU HS6 for My build, and on the outside I got a very clean finish by blasting it with soda crystals in My small sand blaster gun. Also carb balancing can be done quite accurately with a length of plastic tubing filled with water. I first saw it done here on UA-cam. Best Wishes Dee

Thanks Dee, I keep thinking I must be a blaster of some sort and soda would be my first choice.

That was painful, Mark. I just checked out the CB550 on Wiki, and it was good for 109 mph. Roll back the clock 20 years and the Tiger T110 was good for 109 mph. (OK, an extra 100cc, but only 2 pots, only 1 carb, and only pushrods). So not a sporster nor a tourer. What kind of rider would have bought one? I've no idea. I am, though, a bear if very little brain. Where did I put that hunny?..

Not much progress really Bill as you say. The Honda is smooth, revvy, reliable and all round competent. The Harley ( and my British bikes ) are rough (er) gruntier, more economical and much more engaging although that might be why they need more tinkering. Which do I prefer? Depends entirely on my mood, but it isn't hard to see why more people went for the Japanese stuff, it is just easier.

The two bottom bowl the outside ones are in the wrong places you will not be able to drain your fuel while they’re in the back

You spotted the deliberate mistake that I mentioned at the end of the video and I confess to the error in the next video. I had the bowls scattered about trying to sort out the sealing rings and did not notice when I put the back on.

Ok, I will have to wait till next video cause I don’t see the mistake. I will try not to read everyone’s comments and bop my forehead when I watch the continuation.

It is a really silly mistake on my part but not obvious to spot Max, I will confess next time.
