  • I demonstrate how to perform a multiple regression in SPSS. This is the in-depth video series. I cover all of the main elements of a multiple regression analysis, including multiple R, R squared, model development (via stepwise method), intercept, unstandardized beta weights, standardized beta weights, semi-partial correlation, standard errors, as well as basic heteroscedasticity tests.

    Thank you for the in detail video about multiple regression! What method would be appropriate to use if there are multiple dependent variables (continious)? The objective of the study is to find a relationship.

    I am working on a study where I take reading of both eyes of people. it is known there is strong correlation between both eyes. so then cases now are not ind pendant. can use average of both eyes? how can cluster data by person?

    Hi there, i found your post very ellucidative. I wonder if you could present examples when you have complications along the way, e.g. your R=1, or when your Dependent variable (y) does not meet normality assumptions? Thank you

    What statistical model do you use, if the dependent variable is not continuous and is a dichotomous variable. In this example the independent variables are continuous. Thank you.

    • @EllatV100
      @EllatV100 7 років тому +2

      binary logistic regression analysis is used when you have a dichotomous variable

    In the first "block" certain predictor variables were found to be significant, but in the next block as I added in more variables, the previously significant variable(s) became insignificant due to the effect of the new variables. How do I interpret what this represents?
    Thanks.

    terrfiic thank you so much. Just have a question: when we control for variables on multivairable analysis for clinical data.. what exactly does the software do? eliminating those patients? in other words the more variables you control for the smaller the sample size really? thanks again

  • @how2stats
    @how2stats  12 років тому

    It means that those variables do not contribute to the regression equation in a unique and statistically significant way. Basically, the variables you are adding in the second block are probably correlated with your variables in the first block, so their unique contribution is diminished, in this case to non-significance.

    • @how2stats

      Depends on your hypothesis. My immediate answer would be Canonical Correlation analysis. You can do it in SPSS via the menu options these days.

    Great! Now, what do I do, if some variables follow linear model, while other variables follow a quadratic pattern, and another one fits an exponential model? How to obtain one single formula? Is this at all possible?

    Hello, I have a doubt in my analysis. I have two independent variables and one dependent variable what I have done is Multiple regression between them and found that one of the independent variable is significant with the dependent variable, no I want to calculate how much percentage of independent variable is effecting dependent variable. Is there any way to calculate percentage from beta value obtained.

    Would you be able to tell me how to do the multiple regression on only half my data? Like I want to exclude all males and then all females. I have them coded as 1 and 2. Basically I want my analysis done on each gender separately???

    • @mananpareekMD
      @mananpareekMD 10 років тому

      Go to data -> split file. Split according to your gender variable and sort the file.

      Have you considered hierarchical regression analysis?

    • @strawberryseason
      @strawberryseason 10 років тому

      You can do a recoding, giving the males a value = to missing values. Do you know how to recode?

    • @yasserbouklouch350
      @yasserbouklouch350 9 років тому

      strawberryseason selecting the cases you want is much easier and doesn't effect the dataset (it can be cancelled anytime)... to do it, do to Data>select cases

    • @mod_5297
      @mod_5297 8 років тому +1

      Split file on gender before doing the regression probably most efficient way. But have you considered that gender might be an important independent variable? In which case you would not want to run 2 separate lots of regression.

    Hello. First of all, thanks for those nice explanations :) I still have a doubt (i'm actually struggling with that one): I carried out a multiple linear regression and the residuals were not normally distributed, i transformed the dependent variable but the residuals are still not normally distributed. What do you recommend to do then?

      some of the older videos were not recorded in HD; however, you can adjust the quality somewhat by setting the quality of the stream to its highest level; click on the setting icon on the bottom right corner of the youtube video window; you'll see that you can increase the quality to 480p; why youtube doesn't automatically do that, I don't know.
