      Just saw another video of a Saito FG57T (twin) on the bench with a home made electric starter, he built in a remote choke on its own servo and channel so he could prime the engine with a few turns under the starter. Then it just started right up every time after that. Was pretty good.

      They fly great but if you're into nice machines electrics are simply a power source, not part of the fun in their own right. Personally I find them boring and I'll probably quit RC when they're the only option left. I tried them, they're more expensive and less reliable than people tell you by the time you're ready to fly. The MOTOR's reliable, the whole system's no better than an average engine. Both depend more on the operator anyway. I like tuning and using model engines for the same reason I like modifying cars, it's a hobby in itself. Which not everyone's into, some ppl just want to fly them not tinker. Others enjoy the build just as much and love quality engines. I'm not into 2-strokes much but they suit many people.

      3 and 4 blades version. on RC, the 2 blade works better.

    • @bernardw4842
      @bernardw4842 6 років тому +1

      2 bladed props are the most common in RC planes, cheapest to buy and easiest to balance. Balancing is very important or the vibrations can be a big problem. Different versions of the original plane had from 2 to 5 blades over the years but this is most likely for convenience. Plus more blades equals heavier, sometimes you need to find small weight savings either at nose or tail and a heavy prop replaced with a different type is a good method. They don't always go for perfect scale on these models, often it's more about flying them while still being good enough scale to show.

    • @falconeaterf15
      @falconeaterf15 2 роки тому

      Spit mk9 had 4 blades.
      RC piston engines use two blade as two are more efficient than 3 or 4 for aerodynamic reasons. RC planes can break a lot of props in a season so cost I’m sure is part of it too.
      Electric motors use 3 and four blades routinely on scale models. So there may be more the story than your getting here. I imagine smooth running electric motors allow for use of softer plastic props whereas piston engines produce a nasty shock when piston fires, requiring harder materials.

    • @gman2060
      @gman2060 Рік тому

      @@JetFire9 maybe you should check to see if he's put scale wheel nuts on aswell! seen you expect people to do every little detail as if he has built a real spitty. These are toys and everyone will build their planes the way they are happy to fly with. So pull your head in and keep flying your CUB and leave the warbirds to the men.

    What a damn shame to have such a nice looking and flying spitfire with a goofy shitty sounding 2 cycle weedeater engine attached. This bird DESERVES to stand apart from the rest...and It would if it were powered with AT LEAST a KOLM IL-100 and even better the IL-155.
    Having (had) to say that,, I will add that it was a GREAT flight! Very realistic looking.

    • @ripmax333
      @ripmax333 6 років тому +1

      an electric motor with a sound system would be even better, totally reliable and a realistic sound best of both worlds.

    • @bernardw4842
      @bernardw4842 6 років тому

      They still just sound like a small speaker to me, I do sound systems for a living and what it doesn't do is make me think there's an engine in it. They often get out of sync with what the plane's doing, like playing the cough-splutter start up sample when you're already in the air. Electric *motors* are very reliable but with wiring, battery, ESC faults etc they're often more trouble than any cheap engine. A good engine with someone who knows what they're doing can have every bit as much up-time, most of the problems are the operator. Still I agree the 2-stroke sound doesn't match the great model. I prefer 4-strokes, much better to fly, and I'm into engines anyway so they're a part of the hobby for me. Electric just isn't as fun or interesting to me but I'm not trying to say it's wrong for anyone else, it's just preference. Some of us enjoy the build and the equipment as much as flying it, each to their own.

    • @bernardw4842
      @bernardw4842 6 років тому

      They're also bloody expensive, looks like he's already spent a bit on it. Sounds like a DW or other engine from 3D flyers. Plenty of power and cheap. Who knows, maybe the owner doesn't place a big priority on sound, or maybe that's what he had or could afford that would do the job. They don't build them just to please YT viewers after all. If it were me I'd prefer a 4-stroke multi too but it's not mine. I've seen the video I think you're thinking of with the KOLM IL170 Spit, it's awesome but a lot of what you hear is prop noise anyway.
