Sounds like a great idea. We are promoting a similar structure. Our basic vessel/building block, was developed as an oil platform for The North Sea's big waves and high wind. This thing looks like it will rock and roll if a ship goes by. Look at my avatar, that is a "building block" for a floating international airport. Designed for open ocean off San Diego California. In tank tests, our model didn't move in simulated 90-foot waves. Plus the cost is far less because we use standard shipyard automated fabrication and build it from steel.

Dear Mr. Zantout, Thank you for your message. However, this project follows the international rules and regulations that are applied today in any marine construction, to protect the marine life, among other issues. We are complying with SOLAS and IMO regulations. The project is being supervised by INSB - International Naval Surveys Bureau.
William Matar The construction sites are located in three sites across Lebanon; Jounieh, Tripoli and Beirut. Once completed it will be floating in the Bay of Jounieh. The project is set to launch hopefully next year.

The tsunamis have a devastating effect only on the shore, not inside the sea. The floating island is designed for a 7 m wave, which is the highest wave that comes every 50 years in the Mediterranean sea.

The Advanced Engineering of the Floating Islands allows you to build Ships and Floating Islands with a low main deck to give you direct access to the water and ultimate stability for more sea comfort. It can be a hotel, a private villa, a banquet hall, a naval base, the applications are endless. It is also a moving island, it has its own engines and therefore can navigate from one place to the other.

Couldn't you invest all the effort, technology and know how in a more productive and realistic manner maybe even traditional in its appearance yet revolutionary in its concept? or that would face a lot of competition? Another idea that unfortunately didn't make it. If government were serious about the environment they would be developing floating cities but of course they are only worry about power & money.

How do you treat the waste and sewage generated on the island? Is it dumped into the sea?
Any measures regarding tsunamis wave attacks? Lebanon is prone to having earthquakes as I suppose you know.

Is this really being built in Lebanon? I went to Lebanon last year and I don't recall seeing any construction being done on water.
