Brings back memories of working with small square bales growing up gathering, hauling, stacking feeding. Hot dirty work, but put on the muscles. Thank you for taking g us along, keep up the great work

Did a little of that when all the bales were that size. Have a funny story to tell, but some other time.

My family baled 20000 bales a year in the early 80’s with a no. 3. They are a good baler.

Remember the first night after bailing and stacking. Took a shower and the soap stung my arms like bee stings! Oh the memories!!

that's so cool how your hay Baylor just shapes the hay Into a square. to bad there Is not a Machine that goes back through the pasture and picks the bails up so you can take them back to the barns

Jackie Horsley New Holland makes bale wagons that pick up bales and stack them. When you have a load you use the tilt bed to set the load on its end and dump it.

Why don't you pull a hay rack behind the baler instead of dropping the bales on the ground?
    Seems like twice the work,

    • @acresofclayhomestead
      @acresofclayhomestead  5 років тому +1

Yes, my thoughts exactly! A hay rack would be ideal! But, our son bought this baler just to play around with. We don't have a hay rack yet, but if he plans to keep baling then he will probably invest in one.

@@acresofclayhomestead I spent many many many hours riding and stacking hay on a hay rack as a teenager for 85 cents to a dollar an hour. Also working in hay mows stacking hay.
A dollar a hour doesn't seem like much of a wage now, but in 1962 that was a good wage for a kid.
You were expected to work like a man or you didn't work very long.
If you didn't, the word got out and you didn't work at all.
If you did, that word got out too and you had more calls for work than you could accept.
I remember my one year younger sister being jealous of the wages I made.
She baby sat for 25 cents an hour and worked as a car hop at the A&W for 25 cents an hour + tips.
On a good night she would make 50 or 60 cents in tips.
If the rootbeer mugs were stolen, she had to pay for them out of her wages.
      Oh, the good old days.
I'd hate to guess what it would cost per hour to hire a kid to put up hay today.
I know one yard I mowed when I was 12 for 25 cents a mowing, now costs the current owner 30 dollars a mowing.
I'm also guessing it would be pretty hard to find a kid willing to do hard physical work.
Probably why the large round balers are so popular today and why small square bales of 2nd cutting alfalfa is so crazy expensive.

After having worked in Trucking, Agriculture, Mining and Public Safety. I have to say I was Startled at the sight of your Son working around the baler with the P.T.O. running. I was taught in several different venues to never leave the operators station with the P.T.O. running and hydraulic implements are to be lowered to the ground.
The Founder of Farm Safety for Kids is Quoted as saying " Agriculture is the only Industry that Kills it's own Children." She lost a Son to a Farming Accident.
If you have ever thought about how absolutely Gruesome a baler or P.T.O. accident is. And how Devastating It can be to the Family and a Marriage you would not allow that kind of Safety Oversight to Occur in your Children's Life.
Please don't get Mad at the Messenger! There has been times in my life where I didn't say anything in an event I was directly involved in and Then injuries occurred. You can't go back and get a Do over!
Please look up Farm Safety for Kids and make reading all of your equipment owners manuals a requirement to being allowed to operate a piece of equipment.
Love watching your video's. They bring back a lot of Family and Farming memories. Best Wishes to you and your Family! M.H.
