this video came at the best time, i've been stuck on this one particular chapter all week so this has been SUPER helpful. great advice, thank you so much!!
just messing around is a good advice, I think. We writers, often, get too critical of ourselvs and we forget why we started writing in the first place.
Robert Redford employed storyboarding in directing his first movie, *Ordinary People* from the 1976 novel by Judith Guest. He knew nothing about how cameras worked so storyboarding was how he communicated with his DOP (Director of Photography). Blocked writers could use annotated classics (say Joseph Conrad's *Under Western Eyes* : Oxford) and develop a character and storyline from one of the minor characters or the End Notes. Use ANY book such as *The Twelve Caesars* by Suetonius, Shakespeare or Emile Zola. Then you could fuse a book character with someone you see outside. A new character will help you move a stalled story.
Prominent among causes of 'writers block', for serious writers, are; manuscript rejections: A writer spend many months, sometimes years crafting what he or she believes is his/her best work yet, only to be rejected time and time again by literay agents and then publishers---if proper ones of those still exist ---regardless of whether that is the best book every written, it is going to first suffer a series of rejection by publishers, ---in nearly all cases---never gets published, ---If they ever do, there isn't much patronage. Career prospects as an author for a writer begins to look bleak, ---what's the point anyhow---they begin arguing in themselves, ---creating more literary works if there isn't any hope? ---thereafter, a writer is sapped of energy to continue each he /she sits in front of their type writer, (some still use them), or their computer. Their thinking is fuzzy staring at their work station, ---they'd since lost inspiration. In nearly every case, authors can't diagnose the real reason they can't find words to put down. Inspiration to carry on writing is going to be diminished a great deal if there's little hopes of finding any sort of success with the work.
I know it's not your fault, but Im starting to develop an aversion to this channel from the constant Reedsy ads 😂 "Did you know you can hire the editor of the Hunger Games??" Yes. Yes. Just make it stop lol

Thanks for the advice, Shaelin. Writers Block is mostly an illusion, and it helps to have a regular writing routine.

Nice to see writer's block advice that isn't just a) write random crap, or b) cure your anxiety disorder.
