Have you ever painted a white flower with watercolors? What was your biggest challenge? For me it’s overpainting the shadows 😊 While painting this white rose, I put together a video tutorial of my 3 favourite techniques for painting white flowers. Download my reference photo, practice and Enjoy! ❤️
Looking forward to this and many more as Skillshare courses Anna....long time no course updates from you there 🙂
My challenge was getting it to pop without painting a background. BTW, how did you keep your paper from buckling?
My challenge was keeping the petals from looking dirty, through using the wrong or too dark a shade.
This video actually inspired me to paint a white flower! I must say that the challenging part for me was maintaining the glow. What I loved mostly about painting a white subject is that ironically very little is actually white! I was able to get very vibrant colourful shadows. I'll defiantly be painting more white subjects in the future!!!😊 P.S I'll tag you to show you how it turned out.
I once read somewhere that greatest mastery by traditional British school was considered still lives of only white obk0jrctcwll whitewhite porcelaine etc...
2 years later am at long last watching this amazing tutorial. I am an artist who now inmy senior years have been so unwell to not being able to paint, but watching your vids is the next best thing. How kind and generous you are, Anna, for sharing with and teaching us from auch an awesome artist as yourself. God is sooo very good to us allowing you, inspiring you, training you so that we,too, can share in your art. GBY for this. TY Lord for this woman. MORE Please.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much Sheila! I am glad you are enjoying the videos, but sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, I hope you get some relief and have a peaceful lovely fall season 💕 my best wishes Anna
This is much more satisfying than Netflix. Thank you, again 🌸
Ahahaha I am literally going to screenshot your comment, print it, frame it and post it in husbands home office. JUST SO HE KNOWS! 🤣 you r the best! 😆❤️
On a somewhat related note, I almost didn’t finish this painting and video because I discovered Bridgeton or whatever it’s called, and couldn’t stop watching 🤣🤦🏻♀️
Yes, Bridgerton is very addictive 🙂
If you ever get the chance to watch The Durrells, I think you might like it. It used to be on CBC. British family moves to Greece...
Based on real life; books available. It is quite delightful.
Agreed!! Anna her tutorials are better than Netflix. 😁 I can watch it over and over and still learn something new 🙏🏻🌺 I'm even bingewatching them (last night it was 3:15 😆)
Me, too! I wish I could set them all to loop.
I’m glad I found you , your voice is so soothing and relaxing and your tips are something that I never heard before , beautiful rose painting. I wish I could do that one day. Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback Yin! I am so glad you enjoyed it 💜 It takes a few years of practice you can master this medium I am sure!!! I’ve been painting with watercolors for about 7 years consistently 😊 and I am still learning with every painting ❤️❤️❤️
Such a good instructional video all around, techniques, available references, good editing and good sound. Glad I discovered your tutorials. Thank you so much for being generous to new artists.
Thank you so much for your feedback!!💜 a lot of time goes into making these videos and I really appreciate hearing that other artists find value and enjoy them 😊 Really made my day ❤️
I appreciate the explanation about the negative painting technique. That flower has so much color in it, yet it's still obviously a white flower- great job!
Thank you! I fell in love with painting "colorful" whites - you may have seen the white shell tutorial {more recent but the same principles}. It's like sculpting a form on paper:))))
What a lucky discovery having found you! I own watercolors and paper since many years and my shy attempts ended up into failures several times. I feel I am getting a lot of help and valuable advice from your tutorials. Thanks a lot, my new teacher! 🤗🌹🍀
I'm not sure what is better - your art or your teaching skills. Both are great! You inspire me, thank you Anna!
Thank you so much Olga 💜 it means a lot! Have a beautiful day 😊
Thank you for the in-depth tutorial. Your work is stunning.
Thank you so much Julie!💚💚💚
Stunning! One of the many things that attracted me to your art was the luminosity that you achieve and the color choices for white subjects. I’m watching this video and taking notes. Thank you so much for sharing this! This type of explanation you give here is what can eventually give us knowledge enough to paint our own reference photo. Awesome video
Thank you so much 😀 Happy Holidays!
Gorgeous white roses painting!
Thank you Richard! Cheers!
This was such a great lesson. What's impressive to me is your background technique. The only white flowers I've done are daisies. I'm feeling more confident after watching you. I'm going to give it a try. Great reference video. You are very good. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Thank you for sharing when I watch you painting it's as if I'm in another world very inspiring and educational......Whoo says you can't teach a old dog new tricks
Great explanation thank you
The best channel I saw, in artistic quality, voice, writing explanations, photos, videos illustration, infography, comments, description and so on. Really professional and transparent on details.

Love your white rose painting…. Mesmerising!
Thank you so much 😀
I never paint white flower watercolor but I am sure it will be pretty challenging! I love the way you paint by adding different colors and blending wet on wet, so magical!
Thank you so much 😀
Hi! I’m new! Just started watercolors during COVID and I’m hooked. Having trouble with curled edges.I love the way they look as you do them.
Thank you:) That's fantastic Nancy - watercolor is like meditation 💜 I started 10 years ago as a way to de-stress too:) Do you mean paper edges? Or petal edges?
Excellent presentation! Love how concise, smooth flowing without drama! Very professional, Thank You:)
Your paintings are Awesome! I really appreciate all your in-depth tutorials...you are the best!
Thank you so much Mary! :)) Have a wonderful day!!!
I’ve only painted 3 watercolor paintings. The 3 one was a gardenia, it looks flat no dimension.I’m glad I found your video so I can go back and incorporate you techniques. Thank you!
Your work is lovely. I am learning so much by watching you! Yes I painted daisies, several versions and my #1 challenge was masking fluid. I am weaning myself from it...! Thank you so much for your calming instruction.
Fascinating, I may learn. Thanks 🎉😊😊
Outstanding, impressive, inspiring and so educational! Excellent video! Thanks so much for the time, effort and determination you put in your work. I’m happy I found your channel! New subscriber. I have only painted one lily with watercolor. I mostly paint with oils. I find watercolor very intimidating, but fascinating. Lately I have been watching more watercolor videos. Your process is so beautiful with the combinations of colors is what caught my attention. I find your knowledge about color combination is amazing and it could be applied to any medium. So much inspiration, I will definitely will give it a try. Your voice so soothing, clear and peaceful. Congratulations and I wish you the best outcome in your endeavors and much success! Blessings and take care. Greetings from Champaign, Illinois ❤❤❤ Beautiful and gorgeous results!
Very smart and consistent demonstration!
Really usefull your writing comments and explanation. Merci beaucoup

The result is SO neat, crisp and soft at the same time I can't believe my eyes! Your style is absolutely fascinating!

I’ve never painted a white flower because so hard to achieve, it looks magical watching your tutorial, beautiful voice , wonderful explanation, the brush too quick but well done ‘ thanks 🙏 kindly I will definitely try practicing this ´
Love all the detailed info you provide. You beautifully explain how colours work. I need that info and appreciate it very much! Many thanks!
I'm so glad! Thank you for your feedback Anna! 💚
I learned that white isn't really white when you present that using watercolors. I'm learning a lot with your videos. I'll check out your skillshare, I hope I get as good as you after haha
Yes, I painted a yellow iris with watercolors sometime back and it was really challenging, so much that I haven't painted another white flower yet😄! Thank you for your techniques though...will definitely try another white flower using them👌
You can do it Tanu! oh yes Yellow is super challenging - actually more so than white I find, because it's so hard to layer yellow pigments and still create volume! But having a high contrast photo with shadows helps there too. I should attempt a yellow daffodil some time soon :)
Awesome 👌. And thank you 😊!
Are you on Instagram too?
@@Tanubabai yes! You can find me instagram.com/Anna.m.bucciarelli
Haven't tried a white flower, but willing to try now. Thank you.
You’re welcome Bruce! 😊
A very useful and informative video Anna... thank you
thank you for this tutorial. I always like to paint white flowers nd had trouble with them.
Thank you for sharing your talent! So glad to have found you!❤️
💜💜💜💜💜
Lovely! Will try this.
Enjoy 💜💜
Anna, This is a delightful tutorial! It's been a while, but the last time I painted a white flower it was a Cottonflower. I painted it quite large, and I remember the challenge was the same as yours -- to be careful not to overpaint the shadows. You've inspired me to create more.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much Ev! :)
Excellent tutorial, Anna. I have painted white flowers before but had never paid much attention to the shadows...I had just painted the shadows grey in different values. But this tutorial has been an eye opener....there is so much colour in the shadows as well!!!
You are so welcome Ritu! I am glad you enjoyed it :) Have a wonderful day!
Really beautiful 😍 thank you inspiring
Unbelievably gifted! Congratulations 🎊🍾🎈🎉 on finding your audience/students!
Have done ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ in watercolor with dimension being difficult to achieve until using lavender. 😉
Thank you so much!
My first video with you. Your work is beautiful...it's amazing how you see the colors heightened.
Welcome to the channel and thank you ❤️
Was wondering when you painted the negative background did you draw the leaves in first or just put them in free hand as you saw fit. Also just have to say you have a lovely voice I think I’d listen to you recite the dictionary and love it. I’ve learned so much from you, thank you for your videos here and on Skillshare.
I would love to see this one on Patreon Anna x
Wow beautiful. Artwork and method is so intresting i like it most
Thank you!
Just gorgeous ❤
Спасибо ☺️
What a beautiful tutorial! Thank you for sharing. I love to draw when I was a child. Homeschooling my youngest brought back my love for art. I started drawing again(no formal training though) and I found out that i do love watercolor. Glad to find your chanel:)

You have such a beautiful calm voice, so easy to listen too! I love this white flower video. I tried to paint white peonies but ruined it as I put about 9 flowers in the ptg and just got lost! I am going to try one and see if that works better! Thanks! Julie
Thank you Julie 💜
I have done white flower with watercolour painting but main challenge is to paint clouds on sky, and is very enjoyable.

Mil gracias por todos tus consejos y la manera tan clara en que los muestras.
This is such a nice video. Reminds me of the mary gibbs painting style. Thank you
Beautiful 😍
Thank you, thank you for your teaching style, although I am still a beginner I will use your techniques to enhance my art while I practice. ❤❤
Thank you Patti! Happy Holidays!
The white things that I painted [that come to mind right away] were a lacy wedding dress bust and a white horse. The dress went well because I just focused on the colors I saw. The horse needed creative license because the reference photo was horrible, and I over did the medium values but the client still thought it represented their horse well. 🤷🏻♀️ I'm watched your video and a few others to ponder how I might improve. I like your "cluster" tip. It may help because I'm working with another wedding dress painting. My imagination can improve the colors I see in the drab photo. Thank you!
Wow! This is so beautiful! I have never painted a white flower, because I thought it was beyond my ability! I will try this.. Thank you
I am so happy to hear that!!! Enjoy! 💜💜💜
Beautifully done and explained.. Love the palette you selected...
Yay, thank you Ranjana! 💚
Wonderful lesson! Thank you!
Thank you Karen!
Anna! I am so happy to have found your channel- just what I have been needing! Your commentary is so clear and useful. I'm loving the clean color results from dropping in the colors without mixing! Why didn't I try this before? Its wonderful, I can't wait to try this white flower with the negatively painted leaves, this looks very natural and lovely.
I have a question- when you want to leave those atmospheric glowing orbs that look like the sunlight coming through, do you lift paint or paint negatively around them?
Thank you so much!
Great tutorial, just what I need before attempting my second big flower painting in watercolour. Subscribed!
Thank you Mark! 😊Enjoy!
I really need a LOT of practice. Still new at watercolour, but this is very inspirational.
Thank you Chantal! Enjoy 💗 I feel like practice never stops with Watercolor - but it’s sooo much fun if your enjoy the medium 😊
It's awesome 😍
thank you

Thanks for visiting 💚
Thank you for so much information. Really helpful. Beautiful painting
Glad to hear it was helpful! Thank you Rupa 💚
Thank you for an awesome informative tutorial!
Glad you enjoyed it Sarita!
This painting just glows! I have painted Apple blossoms with dark background like this. The background turned out nice, but my shadows on the white petals looked dull or dirty to me. I think it's because I used Ultramarine Blue and burnt sienna mix for grey. I also didn't realize that a hairdryer could make your paints look dull... Is it certain brands or all paints that react to the heat?
Excellent work
Thanks for the visit :)
Great tutorial! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! :))
Excellent ❤❤❤
Gorgeous!! So life like! You are so talented. Thank you for sharing!!❤️
Thank you so much! 💚
This is so interesting. A really cool way to paint. I do like the effect here.
Thanks so much 😊
Love love love it!
THANK YOU SHERRY! :)))
i really liked and noted where you said.........donot make too dark shadows in the begining ....do background layers first and then deepen the shadows of petals......thats very useful.......yes...that gives a room to adjust the tonal values of shadows gradually. thank you
So glad you found it of help! :)
Really nice to learn and I love to listen
Thank you for your kind words!
