With the many people that may be a bit small. I would make it 4 bales wide and 6 bales long. Then everyone can get in and enjoy it without being crowded. A 20ft X 30 ft tarp should cover it with a little extra to spare.

No you won't forget the struggles, BUT every time you look out that front wall you will smile and enjoy the view even more for the struggle and the knowledge that YOU DID THIS!!! Take a couple of hints from someone who has lived in the southwest all my life. Lighter colors, long sleeves, wet yourself down and allow the clothing to work like an evaporative cooler. PUT ON A HAT it may not seem like much but that little bit of shade is worth it. Put a rag of some kind in the crown of the hat, next to your head, that has been wet down. AMAZING difference. So amazed at just how persistent and still in good spirits you two are. Can't wait for the next installment to see the progress. God bless

Building in Portugal...couldn't agree more with everything you said. Constant wetting down creates your own bearable microclimate. I keep a jug and a bucket full of water right next to where I'm working, and pour it over me. Lightweight, white long sleeve t shirts, wide brim hat. ( Works well for kids with a high fever too)
      Aren't they amazing though?!!

Black roof will mean a very hot inside of the house in summertime. Not a good choice in my opinion. I paint all my roofs an off white color and install reflective barriers on the underside of the roof. I will hate to see their power bills when they turn on a/c the first time.

Several of my favorite homesteading channels across the US have had to slow down with their builds during this heat wave. Keep a wet towel across the back of your neck. Wet towels over the rabbit hutch along with frozen water bottles kept my rabbits alive here in Fresno, California. I took them swimming on the top step in the pool too. Take care and stay safe out there.

I know that people have said that about Jeremy....and yes, he absolutely has a lovely speaking voice as well (but don't let him read this, it might go to his head). :)
I'm amazed at how much work you've done in the past year or so. Your barndominium is absolutely lovely. Your future houseguests are very lucky. But your new house is really shaping up nicely. I enjoy watching it progress. I'm a senior woman, but when I was your age I would not have been able to accomplish all that you've done. You guys are showing your kids, through your actions, the benefits you reap by hard work....and yet you still prioritize fun for your kids, and caring for your animals. It's a very rare attribute.

Use the lift to get the wood on top of the pantry since it is still open at the back and work on that in the shade. Also work on the framing back there. That way you can use the lift the sheath while it is still there. Another suggestion would be to get the boys to help install the front doors before they leave if possible. If I remember correctly, it took four people to load and you are going to need at least four people to unload and lift up to install.

Woo hoo, it`s coming along! With that black roof, it will make the inside hotter, of course, during summer and during winter snow season the black roof will heat up and let the snow slide off very fast at times. So you will want to take that into consideration when placing decks with railings and stairs, A.C. condensers, etc. Also you might want to watch "The Build Show" by Matt Risinger from Texas. He has alot of vids on insulating. I have to stop whining when it gets 88 and the wind stops blowing. lol I`m from Ill. and Wi. and still not used to the hot days in Hawaii. Take care

The house looks wonderful. Please stay safe in those horrible temps. When we start hitting triple digits, we still wear long sleeves, but we wet them down with the water hose. Of course we don't have moisture in the air either. Love the way the house is coming together. It won't be long and you will be moving in!!!

I give you guys a lot of credit! We are in the middle of a heat wave also but I am in the middle of a garden redesign, plants that need to be moved, plants that need to be planted, tree removed, water, mulch and water the vegetables. It doesn't compare with building a house but I get started about 7:30 and by 11 I am gasping. After a short break I go til one and then I am done for the day! I had just been moaning about how much less I can do between age and health issues and then we get slammed with heat and humidity. Oh well, one step at a time, we get there eventually and it gets done! You guys are doing an amazing job. The sheep look like the are enjoying your work! Maybe they are dreaming of an air conditioned barn??

So awesome! This heat has been unreal for sure and I know it's been hotter there. We got to 109 and that day lost power for 23 hours........UGH took rides in the car to keep cool in the AC. Unbelievable that you can work in this heat glad you are staying hydrated and taking the hours to chill and go before and after the heat is so bad. You guys are rocking it and I can just see you at Christmas looking out those windows at the snow falling.
Keep looking forward and keep nourished and it's going to be done before you know it.

Another amazing video. Mega praise for Michael and Sebastian handling that black metal sheeting in that heat! Jeremy on the other hand, complaining about the heat whilst wearing a BLACK shirt! That being said, so many people wouldn't work in those conditions. But Jeremy and Melissa work on through to make deadlines. Once the outside work is done, hopefully it will be a bit cooler working inside your new house. Fantastic work!

I'm in the same neighborhood, really roughly speaking. It froze here May 26th, and was 107° June 8th I'm at 3300' elev. Less than 2" rainfall since Jan. 1, and less than 8" of snow all winter. Last September 7th, it froze hard here(27° two nights consecutive). That began the strange weather pattern. This sure has been an odd year. I have to water the garden daily, and I'm barely keeping up at that. Let's hope this isn't an annual trend. Best of luck to you. At least it's great for tomatoes, poblanos, and sweet corn...Lol.

The heat is terrible, especially in the west. The best thing you could've had them do is get down off the roof. A 5 gallon Igloo, and water ran over their heads and shoulders helps too. Hydration and rest is a way to help with the heat. Coming to you from hot, humid, Florida!! Nice roof color btw...
