Touhou 10 Mountain of Faith Normal 1cc Guide

- A guide briefly covering strategies used in Touhou 10, Mountain of Faith on Normal. As the game is extremely generous with resources, I suggest that people use this guide as a starting point and bomb whichever patterns they're uncomfortable with.
It is worth mentioning that the difficulty rating in the video doesn't account for bombs being significantly weaker on Kanako's final, which is why you still want to conserve about two extra lives for that spell on a 1cc run.
Maaan it looks like I started touching MoF just in time... I'm so lucky a guide was uploaded just 5 days before XD
Been struggling quite a bit with this game. People say it's one of the "easier Touhou games" but I find EoSD to be way easier
The reason why people say MoF is easy is because you get a lot of power items throughout the game, allowing you to use a ton of bombs and skip a lot of difficult sections.
Keep at it, master the basic techniques of dodging like streaming and reading ahead for paths (which I might make another guide for), and you'll get that 1cc in no time.
@@CrestedPeak9 I will definitely 1cc it. For now though I know full well that I need to build my confidence and tolerance towards dodging some patterns that are supposed to be easy.
I guess due to my low confidence in dodging some bullet patterns, I ended up using bombs unnecessarily (esp. in 4th and 5th stage, but sometimes also Nitori and even Hina fight)
Also I guess in previous games, analyzing my replays, I realized that I am actually not that bad at dodging when not having bombs, as if I had kind of have some kind of heightened focus when I do not have any bombs -- like there is nothing to lose or sth; but in MoF when I do not have any more bombs, it means my shot is also weak and ineffective; but when I do have some power, when I see some really dense bullets, even if sometimes I could actually dodge them, I ended up using a bomb anyway unnecessarily XD
Oh btw weird question, but do you get copyright claim from a certain "ICE_CC" or sth for the 2nd boss music?
@@randreille6817 Not... yet. Hopefully not. That would really suck.
When you're forced to dodge at 0 power, you do naturally focus more. But MoF is generous enough with bombs that you can use them readily, so you don't have to focus that hard lol.
right? i've got the same feeling. The amount of brain power and stress i put in this game compared to others is unmeasurable
Thanks dude, helped a lot!
15:13 getting an ad right when this happened was truly something. Great guide also.
Great video, you make it look so easy
Everything till stage 5 boss (Sanae) is actually managable. But some of micrododging Sanae attacks are hell. Same with last boss stage's
i still can't get through stage 4 man, shit's rough and i suck on top of that
I would love it if you did more of these at some point!
Just went from touhou 6 7 8 to this and i swear this felt way harder for some reason, maybe it's the fact you can't death bomb and you just die instantly or something, i just felt like i couldn't do as well. I'm on my 5th attempt to normal 1cc this while touhou 6 only took 3 attempts, touhou 7 took 2 attempts and touhou 8 took 2 attempts for each scenarion
It felt harder due to the fact that bombing takes power. Which makes it harder to kill your enemy
I believe this game has much more tinier and faster bullets, I immediately jumped from 8 to 10 after 1cc’ing it and wondered why I was barely able to process anything on my screen.
I ESPECIALLY hate those giant fairies in Stage 4 that decide to shoot those tiny-ass pellets.
@@sandwichpony8071 that too. And the fact there's no spell practice mode
@@sandwichpony8071 i just hate stage 3 and 4 in general, so many random deaths occured in that sections for whatever reason. Also the fact full screen resolution isnt supported and to play in full screen you have to use some trick which makes the graphic really bad and hard to see
Goddamn man, you've officially conquered this game.
Thanks for the guide 😁👍
I feel like for some boss sections you could've waited a bit more to demonstrate how to dodge things properly (aside from Sanae's openers). Also the text can also disappear too quickly at other points too.
Good guide though!
The last spell is evil
are you talking about kanakos?
@@patchouliknowledge445 yes
@@SoicBR ohh i see why but i just try not to panic
>get to stage 6 with 5 lives
>lose all of them on the last spell
>1cc ruined
@@levobertus so true
Thank you so so much
any tips on the stage 4 streaming sections? I try to copy the route but I keep getting walled off by the big bullets or Momiji aims the spiral thing too far to the middle for me to dodge it
step 1: 3-Op laser
step 2: watch credits
On the Stage 5 boss, it's easier for me in the beginning to go through the opening to the right. Left side closes too fast. Worst case micro works well too if you're confident.
Gracias/thanks/ありがとうございました
thank you!!!!
Is there any Touhou TAS going on? :D
Not currently, but I have a couple TASes planned. Will probably tackle Koishi QuadUltra first.
thank god
11:00 i found out last time i think pretty good strat for those crows for Reimu A. Just move to one side of a screen and just stay there and look for ocasional bullets lol
well, reimuA being a homing shot kind of deals with stages on its own without very much effort, but its boss damage is so low that there'll be quite a few patterns that become significantly harder
Your movement looks really smooth. Are you playing on a keyboard or something else?
Yes, I play on keyboard, but input method isn't the biggest factor. The more you play the better your player control will be, and I'm far from the best at player movement. Just look at high level scoreruns/LNNs and you'll see that their player control looks almost natural.
best guide ever saw
I'm getting absolutely ruined by how unforgiving this game's bombing system is. EoSD-IN were hard enough, but now MoF's got me trying to do Stages 4-6 at half-power. I'm stuck constantly taking risks I otherwise never would trying to scrounge up every power item I can. In stage sections the screen fills up completely and walls me in since I can't kill anything fast enough. Against bosses I get so close to timing out the cards that they switch to the more-intense modes of their patterns. Like Aya's last spell, which isn't bad at first but gets brutal once the green waves get faster.
And I can't believe you rated the pre-midboss waterfall in Stage 4 only 2/5. I've never managed fewer than three bombs before reaching Momiji. Same with Stage 6. I guess it's because you simply stream those sections, and the difficulty rating doesn't take into account the fact that in a run that uses bombs, the desperate scramble for power items prevents streaming them.
Though that doesn't account for the inexplicable 1/5 on Kanako's second nonspell, or the 2/5 on Sanae's second spell.
I mean, draw your own conclusions, but those ratings are pretty standard in the community; if you're losing so much power that you're actually struggling this much, you've clearly got much bigger problems than just a couple "misrated" patterns.
From how you complain about two aimed patterns, it sounds like you have a rather poor understanding of how to stream and restream bullets, which will have far bigger repercussions on every single stage section; one of the biggest beginner traps in Touhou as a whole is flailing uselessly around the screen, causing the aimed bullets to become a random mess which is much harder to dodge. If you keep doing that on the stage sections then... yeah, you'll be forced to bomb a lot, then you'll run out of power.
@@CrestedPeak9 Like I said I'm not "flailing uselessly". I'm trying to make up for the harsher consequences of bombing in MoF versus the previous games. If I couldn't stream I would still be stuck trying to 1cc the previous games instead of reaching this one. But in EoSD a bomb's a bomb; I'm not left trying to kill Red Magic at
@@CrestedPeak9 Do you have any advice? I guess MoF takes a much higher level of streaming ability than EoSD, PCB, and IN, since I can't figure this out for the life of me. Among other things I'm 0/12 on Sanae's "easy" final card, because I don't have a clue on the necessary timing and positioning to prevent the round bullets from coming out at exactly the wrong spot to completely block the gap. I get walled in on every single wave.
Doesn't help that Thprac doesn't seem to work with MoF so I can't practice individual spells.
thprac should work on all games, it'd be very beneficial for you to get it working
you've pretty much complained to me about streaming patterns, and I'd have to guess that you're mainly having issues with the restreaming aspects
the basic notion of restreaming is to perform a large movement to open a gap in the aimed bullet stream, then go through said gap and stream in the other direction
for Moses' Miracle, the knife in one wave all aim at one point, so it's very good for restreaming practice; for Kanako's 2nd non, make sure you restream every two waves that aim at you, or try slow streaming from one screen edge to another
but aside from that, I genuinely cannot offer you much more advice unless you give me a replay link or something, since power loss issues usually just indicate very poor experience at stage sections
@@CrestedPeak9 Can't post replays. Google considers any links in comments as probably spam and purges them. I don't know if you as the uploader can still see my deleted reply though.
I'm going to need to figure something out with thprac though or I'll never 1cc this game, even if it is technically cheating to patch myself into using a practice mode I haven't actually unlocked. On my best run I've gotten as far as 1ccing Sanae with three lives left, but those lives get used up in no time against Expanded Onbashira and the second nonspell, and the two you restart the level with on a continue go even faster.
How on earth you are getting such high score so quickly lol Is that the power of perfect run? I've seen many different runs way less perfect and for some reason they are still getting way higher score way quicker than me and im just so confused. I wanna more extra lifes ;_;
Sorry, didn't see your comment until now!
MoF has a unique scoring system, if you look at the bottom left of the game field you'll see the current Point Item Value, which is increased by collecting green star/dot items. More importantly, the bar below it constantly decreases and when depleted will continually drain the Point Item Value, making each of your point items worth less.
If you want to score higher, you will need to figure out how to make this bar not drop to zero, which can be extended by collecting items (and is automatically frozen on boss fights). I route my item collection a little bit to try to reduce the time this bar is at 0, but if it compromises your survival don't risk it.
Also, bombing and dying will cut a percentage of your Point Item Value, though you can generate green items from a bomb's cancels.
what is PoC?
Refers to the Point of Collection, or what is shown at the start of some of the games as Item Get Border Line. You will pull all items on screen toward you when going above that line, and for point items, collect them at their maximum value when above that line.
@@CrestedPeak9 thanks !
Why do you keep calling the crystal bullets "rice"? Pretty sure the rice bullets are the big oblong ones Kanako uses
Well, not him but most of the community calls them rice bullets. Kanako’s big oblongs are usually referred to as jelly-bean bullets.
